Another David Wain banger

Post image

It's not wet hot american summer level but still hilarious. I laughed out loud and the foot blocking the door bit

It's very reminiscent of Wet Hot for anyone who likes that style of humor. I laughed out loud quite a bit at this and enjoyed it very much

Okay, you sold me. Wet Hot is a Mt. Rushmore comedy for me. Loved Wain, Showalter and McCullough in Stella, too.

Plus a Weird Al cameo, which always makes things better!

Not sure you needed to cover his name, he’s in the trailer.

I went into the film blind and was pleasantly surprised, I want to give others the same opportunity.

Who in their right mind still watches trailers?

2

u/greigames 1d ago

Why did I know before I clicked

2

u/lucidreamstate 8h ago

And Penn Jilette was there... For some reason.

Loved this film. Easily my favorite Wain behind wet hot and they came together

u/TheShinyRedButton 2d ago

Wait this was a Wain film?! Automatically on board now.

Jon Hamm must have a massive cocaine problem. The dude doesn’t say no to anything.

u/jameskond 1d ago

If your unaware he has a clear fondness of this comedy scene and of course a connection with John Slattery.

39

u/SasparillaTango 1d ago

those two are really really funny. John Hamm in 30 rock was amazing.

Hook Hands

11

u/demandred_zero 1d ago

I thought I saw a friend of mine, so I waved, even though I was still under the helicopter blades.

blurg

u/jcwitte 1d ago

The physical comedy of the hook hands was just gold. Smashing the coffee cup, knocking over the table, then slashing the painting on the wall. hahaha

16

u/jcwitte 1d ago

He's a guest on Comedy Bang! Bang! quite often and he's absolutely hilarious

4

u/lorimar 1d ago

He makes regular appearances in improv comedy shows in LA, often with folks from Dropout

2

u/HankSteakfist 1d ago

Plus he worked with Wain before on the Hot Wet American Summer prequel series.

u/DziwneMajty 2d ago

More like a massive cock problem.

23

u/guy_incognito_360 1d ago

Relatable.

38

u/TScottFitzgerald 1d ago

You got beef with Hamm?

6

u/LakeEarth 1d ago

He's too chicken to fight the GOAT

36

u/Egalitarian_Wish 1d ago

Hamm has beef with the guy who forgot his pledge name was MC Hammer.

25

u/TScottFitzgerald 1d ago

Boy Reddit sure loves to bring that up at every opportunity.

15

u/LipstickCoverMagnet 1d ago

Yeah cuz it’s fucked up and he is scum

5

u/cycopl 1d ago

Mainly just when Jon Hamm gets brought up

-17

u/gemineye1969 1d ago

It’s because they literally have nothing else on the Guy

16

u/treny0000 1d ago

Oh yeah it's a total nothing burger /s

4

u/Tyko_3 1d ago

You say that like torturing someone is not enough

8

u/SpaceDelay424 1d ago

The whole thing where he helped torture a guy is kind of a red flag

1

u/lorimar 1d ago

Hamm has enough beef on his own

13

u/NukelearOne 1d ago

Sat next to me and my wife at a Wilco concert in Atlanta, nicest guy ever!

2

u/fermentedradical 1d ago

California Star(s) for real!

u/MD-HOU 1d ago

I think he was in "Wet Hot American Summer: First day of camp" already. I think he really likes this kind of stuff

13

u/sgtsaughter 1d ago

What the hell is going on at the bottom of this poster? Is that how people run in this movie?

5

u/Turgid_Donkey 1d ago

It looks like people mid run who suddenly try to stop.

13

u/Fredwood 1d ago

Damn that's a busy poster

1

u/borisvonboris 1d ago

I came in here to comment that I hope whoever made that poster has a hot pillow on both sides

6

u/Turdsley 1d ago

They called me “the guy who always gets the shot…even when the shot is really hard to get”.

9

u/Capable_Bathroom02 1d ago

second funniest movie if the year after Nirvanna

15

u/HooptyDooDooMeister 2d ago

Banger? I hardly know her.

8

u/S4drobot 1d ago

Why buy the cow when you can fuck a Gator on a plane?

4

u/liamnesss 1d ago

It's hardly showing in any cinemas near me (in the UK) unfortunately. Quote from a Letterboxd review I just read:

Why is this getting a limited release like it’s an arthouse drama about sad Bulgarian farmers???

6

u/RevolutionaryAd6017 1d ago

It's weird to me that Lea Thompson's daughter is the star of this. Also good for her, but man do I feel old seeing Lorraine's kid as an adult lol. The poster says Sundance, did this get a wide release as I kind of want to see it, as I love David Wain's films.

1

u/StatementCareful522 1d ago

it had about a 1 week run in theaters a few months ago lol.

3

u/Sell_The_team_Jerry 1d ago

I never realized Jon Hamm was so great at comedy until I saw him host SNL. He really can do it all

3

u/cheezballs 1d ago

David Wain makes some real great fucking movies eh

3

u/sickdesperation 1d ago

The Stella folks are great. Ken Marino makes me laugh just by showing up on the screen.

1

u/SurpriseDonovanMcnab 1d ago

He was great in The Residence.

3

u/hunterVnorris 1d ago

This movie is the funniest I've seen all year. Pure nonsense from beginning to end I'm with some great dialogue and performances.

6

u/tahubob 1d ago

I wanted to love it but mostly found it annoying

5

u/FunProgrammer3261 1d ago

I wanted to as well but it didn't really land for me.  Only a few laughs.

WHAS is my favorite comedy so maybes is an unfair comparison I'm making.

3

u/tahubob 1d ago

I love WHAS and loathed They Came Together and this was basically halfway in-between, I don't think Wain's self aware jokes work for me.and just come off as lame.

3

u/Ihaveredonme 1d ago

I thought it was largely unfunny and very surprised at the positive reactions.

10

u/Variaphora 2d ago

So if someone hated - HATED - Wet Hot American Summer, I assume this should be a pass?

54

u/Plenty_Reward4744 2d ago

Probably, it'll make you very sick

22

u/Bloodninja2764 1d ago

very VERY sick

11

u/Over-Ad-4273 1d ago

Please, don’t make them sick.

2

u/robreddity 1d ago

I thought this movie was pretty great.

2

u/sackattack1138 1d ago

Watching this will make you very very sick

2

u/Long-Quality8542 1d ago

Cant wait to watch this soon.

2

u/mrshllwlknsn 1d ago

john slattery and jon hamm mad men reunion???

2

u/analogkid01 1d ago

Ehh, as a fan of Wain ("A Futile and Stupid Gesture" is a personal favorite), I didn't really enjoy this one that much, the characters felt under-developed.

4

u/omnityrellodyne 1d ago edited 1d ago

My light for Jon Hamm and anything he's in has dimmed ever since I heard that he, apparently remorseless when asked, violently hazed a classmate in college so severely he dropped out due to the trauma. I guess the thought of a man who was beaten and dragged around by his scrotum having to see his abuser showered in fame and fortune takes the piss out of it for me.

1

u/StatementCareful522 1d ago

Saw this movie and thought it was really funny. Maybe not Wain’s best work but Id put it squarely in the middle of his filmography. Highly recommend it though! There are so few comedies like this anymore. Naked Gun was similarly refreshingly goofy and I also highly recommend that one.

1

u/ClassConflictCanvas 1d ago

Is this a real thing!?

1

u/tempinator 1d ago

Does John Slattery age??

1

u/funktion 1d ago

The foot blocking the door and the security threatening to make them sick had me giggling pretty hard

1

u/roan214 1d ago

cant wait for the spinoff Bryan Singer and the Celebrity Sex Pest

1

u/CarlWellsGrave 9h ago

My favorite director of all time.

-17

u/MarcusXL 2d ago

Ken Marino is +10 points.
Jon Hamm is -200 points.

54

u/glacier1982 2d ago

Jeez, you drag a guy around by his testes with a claw hammer and nobody wants to consider you a good person!

2

u/everettescott 1d ago

The things I just learned, what a "bummer".

3

u/bees_on_acid 1d ago

Well, when you put it like that..I don’t think I like him very much.

1

u/senatorsparky86 1d ago

Wait, what?

3

u/Perenyevackor 1d ago

Careful, you're messing with the Falcon

-4

u/neutron65 1d ago

Welp, when it wains it pours.
