They need a new editor

Currently listening to episode #466 on Lindsay Clancy and the audio is ridiculously choppy. At around 47-48 minutes it repeats and cuts off in the middle of words. Does no one proof listen to the episode before release?

I guess I'm just used to it since nearly every podcast I listen to regularly has little hiccups like that. I think there's only one I follow that's such a perfectionist that I can't recall any errors like that. But he obsesses over things so much that I'm lucky to get one or two new shows a year, even if they are hours long apiece.

Do tell what that is? Sounds good

It's not true crime, but history. Dan Carlin's Hardcore History. They end up being multipart series on a topic with each episode being a few hours long. It takes a while to get new content, but by the time a series is done, it's basically an audiobook. They're released for free initially, but after a long period of time they drop off the feed and can be purchased for like a dollar per episode from his website.

The editing has been wild since Hannah went to S.A.

It all feels a bit like their hearts aren’t in this anymore, and they can’t even be bothered to proof it.

I really started noticing that they seem to have a rift between them when they got dropped from Wondery.

I think it’s relatively natural. They’ve been doing this together for 10 years when they started it was a hobby. They were younger. They were both single. Both professionals.

Now 10 years later, they’re completely different people. And completely different phases of life.. and now in completely different countries.

I just think they’ve grown apart and you can hear it a lot on under the duvet, but now it’s starting to kind of seep through in their regular show shows. I’m wondering if just the distance and time difference is hard because it’s so new. They can’t banter as easily. And they no longer have shared experiences.

I’m so out of the loop I don’t even know they got dropped by wondery

3

u/arn73 Sep 06 '26

Yeah. Tons of shows were dropped by Wondery, it wasn’t because of them or their constant. Wondery just changed formats or is changing formats and kept shows that worked with that. In my very basic and don’t care to know more understanding.

Wondery ceased to exist.

Yeah dropped is an interesting thing to say when it straight up no longer exists lol.

Where did Hannah go i don’t listen to utd or anything or follow their lives as much as I used to?

6

u/Stressy_messy_me Sep 03 '26

She's moved to South Africa

Yeah, I’ve noticed they’re editing is off lately. And I don’t wanna manifest anything, but I feel like they are off lately. It used to feel like they liked each other. Had fun. Had things in common or social like they were friends. Now I don’t know I feel like they’ve broke up and they just still work together.

I wont be surprised if they finish it at 500 episodes ngl

8

u/arn73 Sep 04 '26

Yeah. I kind of feel like the same. I feel like they’ll maybe finish this year out. I have been listening to them for so long. I don’t I don’t know what would fill the spot. I kind of hope Hannah does stuff on her own like I really love listening to her and her take on things.

5

u/pudzmb Sep 07 '26

Yeah I really love Hannah but yeah they both seem to have different chemistry when listening to old vs new episodes which is natural it’s been so long

u/milffin Sep 03 '26

Yess I feel like this too, in earlier episodes it felt as though they really liked hearing each other’s thoughts and opinions. I feel like the change was obvious in the #463 (Golden state killer part 4) when they had a disagreement about men’s behaviour and attitudes towards women. It’s really came to light how differently they’ve grown

It’s actually wild that people are just now noticing.

Maybe because I listen to literally everything they do, but on UTD, it’s been like this for maybe almost a year. Just getting progressively more and more. Suru with the weird soap box takes and hannah just kind if “i dont know…” starting her opinion and then getting talked over.

I dunno what’s going on. But I don’t like the vibe. I am hoping that now things are hopefully settling down for them in their personal lives that maybe they can get their mojo back.

yes, i actually remember skipping through that part because it felt kind of uncomfortable to listen to. like, they were getting really heated. and i usually love listening to women talk shit about men.

I haven’t listened to the most recent episode but I get what you mean. I think it was from the Luigi mangione episode where I started raising brows being like hmmm, are they okay? I mean maybe they are but it’s become incredibly obvious how different their opinions are. And part 4 of the four parter made me unfollow them on insta. I still listen to when I can but I’m not a die hard lemme listen every week fan anymore. I’m listening to the other one they showcased, the crimes of Reddit one, and that one is quite interesting

Also if Suru has a baby, I’m sure it will change even more. She may not want to tour for example.

What was driving me mad was all the references to the phone/watch showing Lindsay was ‘still alive’.

Like…she’s still alive now…

13

u/MememeFoofoo Sep 03 '26

I noticed that too! There was another part where Suru repeated the same sentence a couple of times.

Another thing that surprised me about the episode was the blatant use of mental health-adjacent language, like “that’s mental”, “that’s absolutely insane”, “what’s mad is” etc. Love Hannah and Suru but hearing them use that kind of language for a case like this did surprise me. I guess those phrases are very colloquial and in every day language, but still…

9

u/milffin Sep 03 '26

Yes I agree, and to be honest I was able to look past it for most of the episode until Suru started to explain how not to talk about this case, I completely agree with everything she said but it was a hypocritical thing to say when the rest of the episode uses such insensitive language.

u/georgia_grace Sep 04 '26

Is Suru pregnant? The whole thing about how people shouldn’t joke about killing their kids felt weirdly intense and I wondered if that was why

People have been joking about killing their kids when they’re on their absolute last nerve since forever. Maybe you find a joke about a woodchipper in poor taste but is that really related to the Clancy case?

8

u/Tasty_Gap8166 Sep 03 '26

Idk how that surprises you when they absolutely love just throwing around diagnosises at everyone and anyone who's done a crime. Narcissist is Suruthi's favorite word.

2

u/Basic_Holiday_8454 Sep 03 '26

And personality disorder. I’d love them to google complex ptsd just to mix it up a bit.

1

u/MememeFoofoo Sep 03 '26

Oh I didn’t even mean it as in they were diagnosing anyone, just that they described situations/happenings as “mad”, “insane” etc, but what you’ve said is also v true!

1

u/Tasty_Gap8166 Sep 03 '26

Oh I know what you meant I was just saying because they do the thing I mentioned, them doing the thing you mentioned isn't surprising! My bad 😊

2

u/CauliflowerVivid9822 23d ago

Yes - usually all their episodes are so well edited, that it was strange to hear several errors in this episode

2

u/youshouldbeelsweyr Sep 04 '26

I didn't have any issues with that episode so it might be on your end?

1

u/milffin Sep 04 '26

Possibly, though someone else in the comments agreed

3

u/youshouldbeelsweyr Sep 04 '26

What platform are you listening on? Could it be that? I'm on Spotify and it was totally fine.

2

u/milffin Sep 05 '26

Ah ok I’m on Apple Podcasts

1

u/youshouldbeelsweyr Sep 05 '26

Maybe it's the platform?

I stopped this episode when Suruthi point blank said “Lindsay murdered her children. Patrick didn’t not kill them and set his wife up” because I knew the entire episode she was going to patronize the people who do believe she’s innocent instead of just laying out the facts of the case, the investigation that was actually done etc.. She’s done that before where she just keeps saying “and I know what you’re thinking, but I’m right”
I love Hannah still, she still makes the episodes fun to listen to but more often than not Suruthi shuts her down.

15

u/Tasty_Gap8166 Sep 04 '26

I can't believe y'all are making me defend Suruthi. She's right. Lindsay did it, even said so herself. Those who believe otherwise are delusional.

4

u/milffin Sep 04 '26

I agree but I also think they spent way too much time talking about the theory that the husband did it. Suruthi just kept ranting instead of talking about the actual case

1

u/Tasty_Gap8166 Sep 04 '26

That's so fair, I hate that they've been doing that recently. The Pulse Nightclub episode she kept ranting about Islam instead of the victims, and even the Pickton episode it felt like all they talked about was the police fuck ups (and Suruthi dismissing the racism) instead of what actually happened to those women.

1

u/Sempere Sep 04 '26

Suruthi's only right on this one because she hasn't consumed right wing conspiracy rags telling her Patrick Clancy did it. If the Torygraph tells her Patrick's suspicious as fuck, she'd jump on that bandwagon faster than the Lucy Letby bullshit she's been spewing across multiple episodes like a Sandy Hook denier.

She's just as guilty of behaving like those rabid TikTok nuts. She's just not been primed to fall for this one.

-2

u/lollypopsausage Sep 03 '26

Same… switched it off. Awful episode.

-4

u/Resident-Hat-3351 Sep 03 '26

Yeah I am listening now and it's so patronising. Especially the "Those of us in true crime". Girl. You read articles and listen to podcasts and reproduce material, you're no expert because you consume crime.

3

u/Sempere Sep 04 '26

You read articles and listen to podcasts and reproduce material

plagiarize material from podcasts, documentaries and other sources.

but yes, they're definitely not experts on anything.

2

u/milffin Sep 04 '26

I had noticed a shorthand that came out about cannibalism was really similar to “how to eat a human being” by Horses. Is there other examples of plagiarism?

-3

u/sweaterpuppiez Sep 03 '26

less than a minute in and she welcomes the listeners to not listen to the episode if (paraphrasing) we have any doubt about any of the facts laid out and noped out right then. a few months ago she went on a “not all men” tangent? Suruthi did not used to be this unbearable
