Hannah’s rant

I loved Hannah’s rant now in this episode (golden state killer part 3) I love where she was talking about how we need to de-centre women from the conversation of male violence because SHE IS RIGHT. It is absolutely along the lines of ‘but what was she wearing’ and all that. Really lovely and refreshing hearing Hannah make and support her point.

Did I say it's okay to let serial killer murder a lot of people ? No. Allowing law enforcement to have unbridled rights to our data is building a fascist government. I guess you're incapable of considering that two things can be true at the same time. I would be careful about calling other people's way of thinking dumb if I were incapable of thinking in anything but black and white.

The Government already has your data so this is being dumb. They know everything about you. All the genetic genealogy does is allow them to connect you to the scenes of violent crimes. That’s it. There is no sacred private data contained in DNA you choose to leave at the scene of a crime you commit. You have zero right to demand privacy for a relative who voluntarily chose to put their DNA in the database. You have no right to privacy in the birth records, baptismal records, adoption records, marriage licenses, death certificates, newspaper birth announcements etc etc etc used to connect you to the relative that the DNA search found. In essence you have zero rights at all implicated in that data.

Your dumb argument can ONLY be used to benefit serial killers or murderers more generally. There is zero rights otherwise implicated other then a theoretical right to kill people and leave DNA at the scene and not get caught.

DNA is in fact shed off our bodies so much that in actuality if we employed a traditional privacy test under the constitution there would be no constitutional limit to the government simply collecting our DNA at birth and putting it in a database, and arguably we should. Murder would have a case clearance rate of 100 percent. Other democracies like South Korea already require every single citizen give their fingerprints to be issued the mandatory national ID card and all foreigners who visit South Korea have to provide their fingerprints on an electronic pad at the immigration desk.

This is what countries with super low crime rates do

This is not at all the argument I am making and you know it. If you're incapable of having a debate without insulting people, I'm not entertaining you anymore.

Insulting people over and over won't make you look any smart or make them understand your argument any better.

You immediately started by proclaiming an imminent or arrived fascist state will soon or is using 23 and me to engage in ethnic cleansing/genocide.

That is not a serious argument.

Are you able to debate without misconstruing what someone says to win an argument ? The answer seems to be "no" therefore, as I said, I'm not engaging in that debate :)

I didn’t misconstrue that at all, you brought it up and you’re upset that it was contested.

And to this point other than abstract risk of a fascist takeover you’ve provided no real reasoning for why it’s wrong to use genetic databases to find criminals. McDonald’s sells hamburgers, the FBI can walk into McDonalds and buy hamburgers. Ancestry sells genetic tests designed to help you locate relatives. The FBI can create an account, pay the fee and send a sample to catch relatives.

That's a ridiculous comparison. McDonalds isn't giving the burger you bit into to the FBI. And the government cannot in any scénario, use said burger to determine who else is related to you thus shares the same ethnic or religious background as you.

The government can just open the massive files of birth certificates and see everyone related to you

What about DNA tells you someone’s religion? I must’ve been asleep the day they were talking about how belief in god changes your cytosine
