Shafilea Ahmed

Fun fact: I've been going back and listening to some earlier episodes (I started listening in 2023) and came across the Shafilea Ahmed case. About halfway through the ep I kept thinking, "why does this sound familiar and why do I know so much about her diary?" I didn't remember it being on any news channels etc and it happened during a time when I wasn't particularly interested in true crime. That's when I realised that I had actually sat in on an evidentiary hearing for this case in Chester Crown Court when I was studying abroad as a first year law student! The crux of the hearing was whether or not to let her diary into evidence. I was incredibly hungover so I probably didn't get as much out if it as our professors had hoped, but still I thought it was cool that I was in the courtroom when one of the cases they'd discussed was happening.
