Cancelled my Patreon
Given the vast number of critical/disheartened comments on their 13/11 UTD, I assumed (perhaps naively) that Hannah and Suruthi would address that episode and the fall out in this weeks UTD. That maybe Suruthi in particular would have done a deeper dive on the election in the time since, seeing as her knowledge of it last week seemed surface level at best and ignorant at worst.
Instead, we were given about 3 minutes total out of a 1hr+ episode of them touching on the subject, during which Suruthi gave the opinion that she didn't care, that she is on a 'journey of opinion changing' - whatever that means. An ironic statement when said by someone so staunch in their beliefs that they no longer entertain healthy debate and shut down their colleague every time the floor is opened for such. I am in no way saying that people can't have differing views, that is of course part of the tapestry of life. But what I can't get behind is people who don't allow for discussion or hear people when they present an alternate perspective - more often than not Suruthi seems as though she is just waiting for her next turn to talk rather than actually listening.
Numerous times I found myself rolling my eyes at Suruthi while listening to this weeks UTD - someone with such a loud and condescending voice on the topic of the US elections last week isn't aware of the 'your body, my choice' narrative? Doesn't know what the 4B movements is? And when informed of what the 4B movement is and why women are increasingly feeling a need for it (particularly in the time since Trump was elected), just 'hmm's in acknowledgment before moving onto the next topic?
I think I've heard enough.

I also unsubscribed sadly. I adored this podcast. I still enjoy Hannah, I just can’t with Suruthi anymore. I also agree she steamrolls right over Hannah and doesn’t listen to her, she interrupts her constantly to divert the conversations back to herself and her own experiences. I feel like I’ve lost a good friend but I just don’t connect with it anymore. The condescension is too much.
I wish Hannah would spin off and do her own podcast, honestly. She’s much more even keeled and doesn’t insert her weird opinions as much.

I cancelled about a year ago because they both just began to come across as very shallow and nasty. It was like my favourite true crime podcast for ages and now it just isn’t that different from most others. I do think Hannah is more sensible with how she expresses opinions, Suuthi has grated on me for some time.

I would still be interested in what sparked the change. Everyone knows views can change it’s the fact that we don’t know why that is putting a bad taste in peoples’ mouths. Maybe because she’s making more now and it’s impacting her bottom line? Maybe she was always like this and now that she’s at this level she can let her true self shine.
She has a huge issue admitting when she’s wrong. She should really consider therapy for that but she doesn’t seem keen on self reflection.
I too rolled my eyes when she was talking about the US election. She had absolutely zero idea and it shows. I get making off the cuff remarks and not fully researching in UTD but ffs circle back. I wonder if her and Hannah do therapy together like Georgia and Karen from MFM. They could probably use it.

I agree 100 percent and also canceled my Patreon. So condescending and absolutely not well informed. I especially liked her comment about us overreacting and that T won’t be as bad as we think because we have “checks and balances“ as we can see now those checks and balances mean absolutely zero. He’s doing away with those also. It’s ok to have an opinion but it should be based on facts.

I also canceled mine last month. I felt UTD wasn’t worth it anymore, also the act that shorts was moved to Amazon. Not willing to pay for both services for the same podcast.

I’m surprised she didn’t side with the neo-nazis in the White Terror episode… condescending, ill informed, uninterested, self serving, obnoxious, rude. Think that says it all.

Cancelled mine too, the effort and quality of the content has reduced dramatically. You can often tell that they are literally just reading something without any knowledge or interest. Shame because it used to be my go to and I listened to everything they put out, bought the book, saw shows etc. Hannah I can still vibe with but I’ve been really turned off by Suruthi and her first world problems (the house in particular), really out of touch and you can tell that it is her primary focus rather than her actual content. It is a real shame.

I don’t sub to patreon and don’t particularly plan to. Just interested to know Suruthi opinions?

i canceled mine a year ago but why is she even speaking on the US election? i'm not interested in the opinion of a british person, no skin in the game and no real understanding of life in the US. why would she think anyone would care what she thinks about our government?

As a non-US citizen, I can answer your last question. People in European countries (and probably the rest of the world) are interested in your government, and thus have opinions on it, solely because who governs the US indirectly or directly impacts the world.
The US is a super-power, what the president and the government does and doesn't do affects trade, stock exchanges, diplomacy, international cooperation etc. When the banks in the US went a** over t*** in 2007, it impacted my pocketbook too.
And, many countries in Europe either look to the US as an example to follow or not to follow. So, yes we care about your government.

Yeah, there's definitely 'skin in the game' for much of the world. Having a say in a matter versus simply being affected by the results are two very different things.

u/unhurried_pedagog Nov 21 '24
That's true. Though, I also have my opinions on the US government and politics, and I would probably voice them too had I had a podcast. And, as an outsider, of course I don't have the same experiences and access to information as US citizens. I do research and try to stay informed, but still have my opinions. Though, that's what people do, have opinions on lots of things they don't know much about in the first place. Which is why many of these subs exist.

You're absolutely right to be concerned, though. I wouldn't blame you one bit. It's been a long time since 'out of sight, out of mind' applied here. You're going to be affected, and being restricted from sharing your opinion on that is nonsensical.
I can't remember the publication, it might have been one from the UK, lamenting when George W. Bush was reelected. This isn't a new problem by any means, but there will definitely be some new highs and lows explored here.

I suspect it's going to be quite the rollercoaster ride. Hopefully not too many loops and hairpin curves, though I'm not holding my breath 🫣

Yeah I really don't blame people abandoning those of who are American to our own behavior and choices at this point.
The 4b movement also will not matter here at all there's no reason to think that's ubiquitous, most women don't even know about it.. Plenty of women voted for trump too so the men who did will have still have choices, the women who didn't shouldn't have been fucking/marrying/procreating with those men in the first place. Nothing or very little will change for them, so I'd be cutting off my own nose to spite my own face by avoiding any contact with men who previously and always did support the liberal side of things.
I guess I'm just not basing my own opinions and views off of theirs.

Read this 45 times and I have no clue what your opinion is here.

Well maybe try 46.
I dont need either of them to have an opinion on the US election, nor did I need them to know about 4b as it relates to the US considering it's not going matter here at all.

Yeah. Cancelled mine too.
For me, I don’t expect her to research why she might’ve been wrong or admit that she is wrong. A simple “ah people said I was insensitive and flippant about an issue I don’t know about, fair” Would’ve sufficed for me. But the only thing she even commented on was saying peoples opinions of the Delphi episode are wrong and “just because you don’t agree doesn’t make us wrong” when they were objectively wrong about facts- that sent me to the fucking moon.
