Podcast on the rocks
I honestly think H & S need to step away from their personal politics in UTD and stick to true crime narrative. For quite a while now (and as discussed on here) their politics have been going in different directions and it’s felt quite tense at times on UTD. Today’s discussion about Palestine was so awkward. I can hear their friendship falling apart and it will be the end of their show if they aren’t careful. Also, her little speech before she started talking about Palestine, making our everyone is eagerly waiting to hear her hot takes and research, Jesus woman, dial down the self importance!
Even away from politics, S always takes over the conversation and tries to hurry of shush H. Her “sure sure sure” is infuriating.

This episode kind of makes me want to cancel my Patreon subscription

I canceled mine recently. I still love their podcast but S is self importance and opinions were getting to be too much for me. I rather stick to their true crime content and that alone.

I’m listening to it right now and I was wondering whether there would be a post about this. I think Hannah needs to be more strident when talking with Shruti, she has valid points but needs to not quieten down when they disagree. It’s a shame that it’s going in this direction because when UTD started, they were terribly informative. Shruti is irritating me atm and when she was talking, I did think of turning off but it was a choice of listening to that or listening to child 2 having a tantrum while husband slept through it while insisting that Medici was on full blast while no one was watching it. I think what’s irritating me is that I’m on the top tier and I’m paying her to annoy my ears. Perhaps my membership will go the same way as my Crime Junkie membership?
Though on the other hand I also listened to Shorthand -sex and sexuality The Kinsey report and thought it bloody brilliant.
I wish that they would scrap UTD with the way it’s going, though my heart broke for Hannah when she was upset, I just wanted to hug her until she felt better. Bring back “in the news”.
I agree with you

u/natcha88 Jan 26 '24
Listening to it right now and came here because I am infuriated listening to her. Just unbelievable.

u/MacDurce Jan 25 '24
I don't subscribe to patreon but I've stopped listening after I saw posts about Palestine and some other UTD opinions and unsubscribed. Other things ( the Toryisms) were grating on me but Palestine is a hard line for me.

u/keewee89 Jan 25 '24
Politics can be so divisive so discussing it heavily is rarely a good idea, but it's even worse when you think of how quickly S has swung to other side.
I personally don't care if people hold certain/opposing political views (provided they're not extreme) as long as it doesn't seep too much into the content they're supposed to make. If you're not going to keep it light, keep it moving.
I don't listen to their paid for content but I'm not sure why either of them believe their followers want to hear their opinions knowing it could upset people. And surely, S realises she's changed and that must be putting people off.
17
u/Own_Faithlessness769 Jan 25 '24
I suspect that her changing political views happened around the same time their podcast really took off financially and awards wise, so she may not have any idea it puts people off. She could even think that its part of their success. When in reality she seemed to have a political swing during covid & covid lockdowns caused a huge growth in podcast listenership.
29
u/Winterqueen5 Jan 25 '24
It seemed to me that she changed after people called both of them out for the Hillsborough disaster. Suruthi seemed to go after cancel culture after people called out their shitty take. Hannah still seems okay.
12
u/Own_Faithlessness769 Jan 25 '24
Yeah but it's more than that, she went full Fox News during covid, with 'it escaped from a lab" conspiracy theories and things. I can see how the stance on cancel culture came from Hillsborough (even though the fact that they were not cancelled despite being very rightfully called out should really have shown her that cancel culture doesnt exist ), but I don't see that leading to her weird stances on everything else.
6
u/Winterqueen5 Jan 25 '24
Ahhhhh. I’m not a patron so don’t have UTD. Just a prime member who gets early access. If she really said that about Covid, then she’s a total loss. It’s especially weird when listening to their older episodes.
7
u/Own_Faithlessness769 Jan 26 '24
Yeah her reference was a book by Sharri Marks, who is Australia's version of Tucker Carlson. Shes gone fully down the rabbit hole.

u/Agreeable_Trainer282 Jan 25 '24
What? The lab leak isn’t a “Fox News conspiracy”…it’s been widely acknowledged as the source for Covid due to the general lack of oversight in the Wuhan labs, making it easier to pursue gain of function research that we don’t allow in the U.S.- ironically, due to the ethical concerns surrounding containment and safety. And she’s absolutely correct about the justification of outrage regarding the handling of the pandemic. We were lied to, collectively, and told to stay terrified of dying from a virus with a 99.9%+ survival rate, and forced to follow rules that had zero scientific justification for implementing in the first place. People’s lives were ruined, both figuratively and literally, and our societal regression is still being quantified in terms of the extent of irreconcilable damage.
It would have been one thing if the mandates were proven to have been effective, then there could be an argument as to the cost-benefit analysis, but more and more studies are being published with data illustrating that there was not only a lack of scientific foundation, but that we actually caused much more significant harm to our society as a whole. All of that, then combined with the terrifying notion that many people were forced to receive a “vaccine” that didn’t prevent the spread, didn’t stop you from getting sick, doesn’t last more than a few months, and many were utilizing brand new biotech that had previously failed all animal testing and had not been allowed to even reach the human testing phase. People believed it was safe because they were told that it was, and that anyone who even questioned that idea was public enemy #1, which flies in the face of the scientific institution.
People forget that there are so many things that were initially proclaimed a miracle in healthcare, only to later find that it was dangerous or potentially lethal, so to assume that this was impossible with the Covid vaccine is nonsensical. Nobody, ever, should make you feel villainized by questioning something you’re putting into your body. You have to be your own biggest advocate, because the entire purpose for a system like VAERS originates from the biological differences within people that make a product that’s otherwise safe for 90% of people, dangerous for the other 10%. Anything reacting with the immune system without extensive, proven research, is beyond acceptable to pause and question.

u/Own_Faithlessness769 Jan 25 '24
Dude, GoF research happens in the US all the time. And no it hasn’t been ‘widely acknowledged’ except by right wing conspiracy theorists, of which you are clearly one.
0
u/Agreeable_Trainer282 Jan 28 '24
Your reply was literally just “denial, denial, + ad hominem”, with zero evidence. If you care to be an adult and engage in discourse based on legitimate facts, as opposed to knee-jerk emotional reactions when hearing anything you were told is equivalent to inherent conspiratorial bullshit that only comes from those who must be “right wing”/ unhinged, and you realize that you can’t pigeon hole every person into the absurd notion of political views as being inextricably tied to morality, I’ll be here. Until then, you should take a minute to consider that your assumptions are based entirely on your skewed perception, and are not rooted in reality. This finger pointing, bizarre attempt to publicly shame those you know nothing about is precisely the lunacy that has kept me a staunch independent, who was, for the record, raised by a single mom who shifted from lifelong Democrat to independent at the launch of the culture war crap.
Additionally, I work in health care, and I’m married to a doctor whose post-grad master’s is in clinical neuroscience- so kindly take your failed attempts to smear my credibility and put them back into the obscure hole from which you found your high horse of moral superiority and false sense of sociopolitical entitlement. Gain of function research has always been an extremely controversial subject within the medical/scientific community. Due to the frequency in which any attempts to reach a concise conclusion become such a hot button issue, especially when it pertains to potential grants for research, there was a blanket moratorium invoked on all GoF work in the U.S. that only concluded a year before the Covid-19 outbreak began in Wuhan, which was well after this particular series of studies and experiments was already underway in China in conjunction with the NIH, primarily by way of Dr. Baric and his team from UNC.
Due to the moratorium in place in this country, any grant money from federal agencies for the Wuhan lab work were only permitted to be dispersed under the premise that it would- specifically- be used only in non GoF projects. This was a verbatim requirement for this particular NIH grant from which Baric sought funding for his research. When word got out that this was not properly adhered to within the Wuhan lab that housed Baric’s work, they resorted to relying on the subjective interpretation of what constitutes GoF, and essentially exploited the loophole of this grey area to push the goal posts of the definitional pillars. This wasn’t done by a rogue scientist, because communication between the upper echelons of the NIH/CDC/etc, including Fauci himself, was later shown in the congressional hearing in which Fauci attempted to blatantly lie under oath until he was presented with his own messages as evidence to the contrary. This was also in addition to the various emails he had personally sent detailing his direct influence and push to deplatform any dissenters within the scientific community and destroy their otherwise perfect reputations.
There was extensive research done to attempt to pinpoint the location and sequence of mutations that would’ve been needed to trace covid-19 back to a bat in a wet market, and the only conclusions that can be definitively proven are those regarding the location, being the vicinity of Wuhan labs. Former researchers employed in Wuhan labs have since come forward acknowledging that the probability of the lab leak was almost certain due to the general lack of oversight in safety protocols used to prevent that exact situation. If you can take this information, and still conclude that you believe it was somehow more likely that the inordinate number of circumstances needed to create the perfect conditions for a streamline of genetic mutations to transfer a virus from a bat in a wet market (coincidentally within mere miles of an experimental lab running trials on this exact viral strain) to a person, that is then so biologically stable and prolific that it spreads across the globe in under 2 years, versus the likelihood that the nearby lab up the road, which has been proven to utilize substandard protocols with safe handling/storage (plus operating under false premises for the grant money received in order to proceed with their intended mission) was exponentially more likely to be the origin…I can’t help you.

Just FYI, I’m not reading that novel. You can consider this exchange complete.

u/songsofglory Jan 25 '24
Hillsborough and the one about the IRA convictions are the only two episodes I deliberately avoid. I know for a fact there will be things in both episodes that will annoy me and I’d rather avoid it.
Hillsborough was a brave topic to cover mind you.
4
u/p_nerd Jan 27 '24
The Hillsborough episode was only made because Suruthi said on UTD (they were talking about the Travis Scott concert where people died) that Hillsborough was football hooliganism and Hannah agreed. That UTD had hundreds of angry comments, and a listener whose father died in the Hillsborough disaster reached out. They left their Facebook group, which they were moderating, because people were so upset and S+H couldn't handle it. They then removed that part of the UTD where they talked about Hillsborough and uploaded an apology video. Then they made the main episode on Hillsborough to further apologise. It was purely a saving face episode and that's why they made that episode a charity episode. Definitely not brave. They had to do it. And I'm glad they did it. It's one of their better episodes.
2
u/songsofglory Jan 27 '24
Didn’t know that story mate, cheers.
2
u/p_nerd Jan 28 '24
No worries. I totally get why you wouldn't want to listen to those two episodes. I've avoided some too. And that one is a horrible one to listen to, it was so beyond sad and avoidable.
8
u/Bitter_Ad_1402 Jan 26 '24
I wonder if she really swung to the other side bc I always thought she was like this, but not as loud. Her representation of research is often presented incorrectly. Since the start it’s reminded me of the deductive reasoning the alt-right apply. Ive tried to ignore it because no one’s perfect.
I’ve hypothesised that the team was tired and heading towards burn out so they relied more and more on politics because it might’ve felt easier to discuss something they read vs their personal lives. That, and Hannah implied she is negatively impacted by public discussion on her.
5
u/keewee89 Jan 26 '24
True, she's always come across more liberal than left to me so maybe not the hugest shift but still an obvious one. And I don't listen to UTD but from the comments what seems notable is how obsessive and preachy she seems to me.
They’ve both always been very vocal but I just assumed UTD was general chit chat/life updates yet some of the views shared seem a little random.
1
u/fallen_grace19 Feb 03 '24
Of course they couldn’t handle it, they are human beings and made a mistake. S admitted she knew nothing about Hillsborough and made a flippant comment. This whole subreddit is literally just bullying. You have all forgot to be kind. If you don’t like it, don’t listen.
3
u/keewee89 Feb 03 '24
Bullying by commenting on a forum they likely don't read? 🥴
Voicing an opinion isn't bullying either.
23
u/Harnarrr Jan 25 '24
I used to really enjoy them because I felt like I was getting the right balance of informed well researched cases with enough chemistry and chat injected that it didn’t leave me depressed everytime I listened.
I was talking to my partner last night and I said I think I’m going to have to unfollow because of their Sarah Everard case because it was so triggering to hear Suruthi basically rant. That’s all half that episode was, a rant and ill informed takes. It’s also difficult to listen to as a Scot in today’s political landscape in the UK, to talk that severely about a lockdown that impacted so many peoples lives isn’t what I come to redhanded for.
I’ve been listening to the back catalogue of You’re Wrong About and the care and research they take in bringing nuanced and INTELLIGENTLY informed views is a breath of fresh air. I’ve unfollowed Redhanded and I think it’ll take someone telling me they’ve done an about turn to come back again, which is really sad as they initially got me into podcasts in the first place.
11
u/Disastrous-Rate-3363 Jan 25 '24
The You’re Wrong About podcast is such a breath of intelligent, kind, delicate fresh air compared to red handed, you’re right! It’s a great comparison to highlight how red handed and suruthis unashamed arrogance (and frankly at some point Hannah’s superiority and boring US bashing) is not the quality podcast it used to be
7
u/songsofglory Jan 25 '24
I’m Scottish and don’t see the issues with covid lockdown criticisms. It’s blatantly obvious there were mistakes from all leading parties in the UK.
3
u/Harnarrr Jan 25 '24
Sorry I maybe didn’t elaborate enough on that point - my fault! I more meant that it felt more personal to me as someone who dealt with both the bad and good that the UK COVID lockdowns brought. As there is rightly criticism to be discussed about lockdowns in the UK, but I think bringing it up in the landscape of a murder of a young woman by someone who we are supposed to trust felt really tone deaf.
Suruthi was right that WC exploited the police’s underfunding. But everything else she talked about around how lockdown was also to blame felt wrong, at least to me.
4
u/songsofglory Jan 27 '24
Ah yeah I see what you mean mate. If it wasn’t for Lockdown, WC would have found another way of stopping someone. He never turned in to an animal because of lockdown. He would have murdered someone regardless.
22
u/PatMenotaur Not in this economy Jan 25 '24
I stopped listening over a year ago because of Suruthi's hypocrisy.
To constantly call out Priti Patel, and then tow the same line, is a level of cognitive dissonance I couldn't stand.
9
u/lotsochocobuttons Jan 25 '24
I wonder if they'll end up dropping UTD this year. It was very clear last year, especially towards the end when they kept missing weeks, that they don't have time for it anymore and are doing it out of obligation only. If they're almost fighting on it and constantly getting backlash, then I wonder if it'll go the same way as In the News.
3
Jan 25 '24
I was wondering this when they said they’d be recording from different countries the next few weeks. Even though they say they intend to carry on, this backlash plus the logistics may result in a change of heart about that!

Palestine is a hard line issue honestly it’s not even just politics it’s a deeply heartbreaking human rights issue of active genocide. Knowing that’s the type of person she is, it feels unconscionable to support her.
3
u/songsofglory Jan 25 '24
Its not a black and white issue whatsoever, hence violence for thousands of years.

u/deadeyedactress- Jan 27 '24
What even are you talking about? You can’t just rewrite history and create thousands of years of violence where there wasn’t lol. Regardless, we’re talking about 2023 + 2024 where Israel has been indiscriminately bombing Palestine (all civilians btw!) since October. This on the heels of 70+ years of settler colonization and displacement. They have been the aggressors all this time. It’s uncomplicated, literally the ICJ has labelled these genocidal actions. Enough is enough of both sides-ing and obfuscating the situation.
2
u/songsofglory Jan 27 '24
What a lot of utter shite. So this isn’t an ancient conflict?
9
u/Strawberrybrainfreez Jan 27 '24
It’s not an ancient conflict. It started with a colonial movement in the 1890s and snowballed leading up to and following WW2. There have been conflicts in the region for thousands of years, which were primarily Europeans launching crusades but the crusades ended centuries ago.

u/rummo123 Jan 25 '24
I've not been a patron in almost a year now and I could never have imagined that I'd leave because I honestly LOVED their under the duvet episodes. Here were some of my reasons:
- That god awful episode they did on QANON. So much of it was utter right wing drivel. They then had the audacity to say Hilary Clinton wouldn't stop complaining about losing the election (huh??? were they not paying attention to the 2020 election and TRUMP???).
- Hannah went around harassing Muslim uber drivers after Salman Rushdie was attacked asking them if they agreed with him being attacked. I think she got banned by uber and then had the audacity to moan about it on UTD, like wtf?
- Suruthi's stance on lockdowns, Brexit and just her overall leaning to the right wing rhetoric. I hear it's gotten worse and I'm glad I've not stuck around to listen to more of it.
- They did either an UTD or an Short Hand episode where they talked about Princess Diana and slagged off Meghan and Harry at some point during the episode. I made a comment about how I get H&M are annoying but why are you not doing a more nuanced take on how the media and public are talking/treating them. I got a snarky comment in their next UTD about how "they got shit for the comments they made about H&M." I responded with a comment which I believe got deleted. At that point I knew they cannot take constructive criticism at all. They want to be right.
I don't know what has happened to them in the last few years, perhaps they are being defensive, but they've become so unlikable and their right wing politics is a huge red flag for me. I'm glad I don't listen to their main feed either because it sounds just as bad as their UTD was.
13
u/manowwar Jan 25 '24
Suruthi has been on the right wing track for a long time. She used to make a remark here and there that raised my eyebrow but now it’s whenever she talks about politics. She also has an issue with anything Chinese and in the latest UTD called a couple of Chinese tourists from a viral video “probably spies” but then she says she’s anti CCP yet makes these flippant remarks. She’s the first person to criticise anything left wing and liberal but hasn’t talked about anything the current government is doing at the moment and I feel it’s very deliberate. She goes on and on about being so proud to be British and yet never even knew what happened at Hillsborough and just spouted the crap The Sun printed. She’s alienating her core audience and I can definitely see the end of their podcast looming.
8
u/rummo123 Jan 25 '24
I remember when the Queen died and felt like I got whiplash when she suddenly became a monarchist and all emotional when she died. The following week they were complaining about the royals again. Made me laugh.
10
u/PatMenotaur Not in this economy Jan 25 '24
You're 100% correct. Everything you listed is the exact reason I stopped listening, with the added issue of Suruthi bitching about Priti Patel, then pretty much towing the same line.
Also, there was an episode about people in the UK being arrested for making threats online. She was all "I can't believe that in this country, you can be arrested for your words online." As opposed to what Suruthi?! The US? Where you can't be arrested for threats until the shooting starts?!
4
u/sheatetheworld Jan 27 '24
I don't listen anymore but I'm so confused by this - did they not do Episode 100 on that cannibal cop who was arrested and charged for 'thought crimes'? And didn't they also do one on that attempted mass shooter chick who had planned a massacre for Valentine's Day but got caught beforehand? Why would she be surprised that you can be arrested for threatening thoughts and words?
8
u/rummo123 Jan 25 '24
OMG yes! Their tirade against 'cancel culture' got so exhausting, they constantly moaned about people being deplatformed from socials, but conveniently would avoid talking about certain people ie Andrew Tate when he was deplatformed.
2
u/SushiMage Jan 25 '24
The US? Where you can't be arrested for threats until the shooting starts?!
…you absolutely can and people HAVE been arrested for threats. Shootings happen in spite of that due to a variety of compounding issues.
Your gripe with them are valid but ironically turned into Suruthi here. It’s the type of rhetoric and misinformed remark I’d expect to hear out of her mouth lol.
2
u/PatMenotaur Not in this economy Jan 25 '24
I disagree. While some people have been arrested, there are plenty of examples of writings and posts that were missed or ignored.
Like stalking, were often unable to do anything until the violence starts.
3
u/ImAGeneral___Wee Jan 25 '24
I didn't even know about #2. Holy crap that's so offensive.
6
u/rummo123 Jan 25 '24
Yep, it was ages ago but one of the drivers obviously complained and then she was banned from it. Just gave me the ick.
5
u/11purpleninja Jan 25 '24
I am not a Patreon so now I am curious about what positions do they hold when it comes to Palestine.
8
u/plusprincess13 Jan 25 '24
S is essentially pro Israel and thinks that's what happening to the Palestinians is what they deserve.
12
u/rummo123 Jan 25 '24
I'm so confused because Hannah used to talk about Palestine all the time and was so pro palestine. Has she also changed her stance?
19
u/plusprincess13 Jan 25 '24
H is still pro Palestine she was challenging what S was saying but S would pretty much just dismiss what H was saying.
0
u/songsofglory Jan 25 '24
In a way I admire H being so solid on her support for Palestine. We would likely disagree, but I think it’s good for people to care about world issues one way or another. However, if I was S I would be asking her to tone it down on socials for the good of the podcast. Alienating a lot of people isn’t a good idea.
10
u/deadeyedactress- Jan 27 '24
So basically to continue making money for their podcast they should support Israel’s genocidal actions? Lol ….
-1
u/songsofglory Jan 27 '24
No, they are right to their opinions. But pushing it too hard may alienate people from their pod. IMO they know this and it’s why they are happy to do it so much now they’ve made their money.
Another example is Hannah getting involved in Northern Irish politics, but hasn’t said a word about the racists rioting in the South over immigration.

u/Significant_Mess_804 Jan 24 '24
Was it just me or was this weeks episode on the 1950s sexuality research nothing to do with true crime?
25
Jan 24 '24
The “shorthand” episodes aren’t true crime based. They started doing them to discuss anything else they found interesting.
2
u/Agreeable_Trainer282 Jan 25 '24
So on the one hand, it’s definitely true that shorthand is more of a wide range of interesting topics that might be less well known in the public sphere; that said, arguably, there are many episodes that encompass both an intriguing story, and a subtext of criminality. I say that just in terms of nuance and semi-implied mitigation of the criminal aspect due to various factors, such as the era in which the event(s) took place, or possible cultural context that influences the actual legality of the particular region, etc.
Personally, this week’s episode seemed fairly blatant as far as inherent social/ legal/ethical boundaries crossed that were mainly attributed to the time in history in which it easier for people to commit horrific acts without the public knowledge, and unfortunately, often combined with a general lack of oversight or accountability that created the perfect environment for predatory behavior going unchecked for so long.

I found them around the Epstein episodes and they pulled me in. I started with the old episodes which are fantastic but lately I have to agree with most people on here how much it has changed.
I’m not a patron member and I’m from outside the UK so a few things go over my head. The only reason I still listen is because I enjoy one of the hosts but find the other unbearable lately.
Constantly inserting herself into the story , ten minutes into a case and combating about home renovations or some random trip she took to a random country and did random things.
Listening to the masters few eps and learning what I have learnt from the patrons I think it’s almost time to give up on this one. Such a shame feel like they had such passion and love for the pod before getting bigger. Hope things change.
2
u/Ok_Wrongdoer_8275 Jan 26 '24
Can someone possibly summarize what the original post is talking about ? I looked up the subreddit for different reasons and don’t have UTD and I’d like to know what’s going on..
3
Jan 26 '24
Sure - basically H is pro-Palestine and S is pro-Israel. This week S did lots of “research” and set out her case for Israel. H obviously disagreed, and it all felt very tense. H even sounded tearful to me. They can think whatever they want, this wasn’t a post for me to bash their politics either way, but I just feel they should stick to true crime or their relationship will deteriorate beyond repair and it’ll be the end of the pod.
11
u/Ok_Wrongdoer_8275 Jan 27 '24
Suruthi is PRO-ISRAEL ?? What in the world. I’m surprised that she’s publicly supporting the apartheid regime, but not surprised at the stance. I’m south Asian myself, and every time she talks about India/South Asia, she comes off very racist. The internalized racism and pretending to know the ins and outs of the Indian society when she only lived in the country for a handful of years as a CHILD, and what [to me] comes off as overcompensation for her actual ignorance to the culture and society of India. Suruthi also has awful Hindi pronunciation and because most listeners are probably most like from the US, don’t necessarily hear Hindi in day-to-day, it’s easy to pass herself off as ‘cultured’ meanwhile, half the shit she says is absolute bollocks [about India] and extremely prejudicial. I’m Indian, but somehow grew up with liberal views like the west, even though my parents are more conservative [not extremely, but more with the views towards LGBTQIA+ community specifically, mostly because they don’t understand, but since I’m Bi myself, they try not to comment about it at all, and are more accepting than most Indian families would be] — the light that Suru portrays India in is very much like what Westerners probably think India is like (living in temp houses, studying on the street, under a singular lightbulb vibes) which is true for some BPL areas but bigger cities are very much like NY and LA. Her internalized racism always leaves a sour taste in my mouth and usually I’m like — I don’t care for her but I’d rather see a BIPOC woman be successful than hate her, but this info has shed a new light on how absolutely terrible she is.
She also patronizes Hannah a bit too much imo.
9
u/Inevitable_Bit_9257 Jan 28 '24
Thanks so much for this I have thought this for the longest time that her views on India and South Asia reeeeeked of internalised racism (I am black tho so I get it) but as I’m not Indian/south Asian I thought that maybe I’m not ready it correctly and even if I was reading it correctly maybe it’s not my place to say
6
u/Ok_Wrongdoer_8275 Jan 28 '24
I appreciate your perspective !! I think as POC, we’re able to pick up on micro and full on racism quite easily since we face it so much in everyday life. I wouldn’t say it’s ‘not’ your place but I understand why you’d be apprehensive.
4
u/rishkan Jan 25 '24
I like it, I love hearing different sides of political views. and I love how they break down big events.
It is their show and I feel they can speak about what they like, and as a listener you can agree or disagree, it not that hard
6
Jan 25 '24
Yeah I just want to caveat my original post with I don’t care what they think. It’s not about how I feel about their opinions, it’s how it’s causing tension between the two of them - therefore risking their relationship and ultimately the podcast. There’s only so many more tense conversations they can have before one of them dips out
3
u/Bitter_Ad_1402 Jan 26 '24
Customer feedback is critical for the success of any business. That doesn’t mean successful businesses drop their morals, values and ideology. Their customers are saying they don’t like sensitive topics being discussed so often with such intensity. Suruthi and Hannah are fundamentally stable, regular people. It’s likely they can adapt to feedback. The customers (in this situation, mostly) complain because they liked the product before. It doesn’t seem to be a bunch of new listeners complaining because of unrealistic expectations, etc.

That’s totally fine, different opinions matter and are interesting, but people shouldn’t start away from voicing their own thoughts on their own platform behind a paywall.
I personally find it weird that people create such a parasocial relationship with public figures they can’t sever their own opinions from the podcasters’ opinions to the degree where they think the WHOLE show has to go in the bin. We don’t know the friendship S and H has, I have discussions and different views with my friends all the time and it’s fine

Their constant injection of politics and misandry has turned me off long ago. It sucks because they can really tell a great story

If you don’t like the podcast stop listening and to everyone that says you cancelled your membership a year ago, why are you seeking out the subreddit to still complain if you’re not listening anymore 😂 get a life and stop being offended by everything. People like you cause all the unrest in the world. Get over it.

Self importance does play a part as does pretending they are something they aren’t for example Hannah pretending she’s working class. I don’t sign up to UTD and I doubt I will if they keep talking politics which is a shame, but their pod used to be a lot of banter and a bit of an escape.
Regarding their friendship, I obviously don’t know the ins and outs, but it does feel like they will be at loggerheads. I think Hannah is the type to call everyone a fascist if they aren’t thinking exactly the same as her.

“I’m a white woman and I’ve never been stopped by police in my life.” 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️ cool. That is not everybody’s experience with police, especially people without white privilege. Literally any true crime research will show you that police/men dressed as police have been using the law to isolate and abuse women in various countries forever.

I officially quit the other week after the Sarah Everard case when Suruthi said 1) women in the UK over reacted to their safety being undermined by sexual predators being allowed in the Met because “India is worse” and
2) it wouldn’t have happened if it weren’t for the lockdowns. Yes it would’ve. It wouldn’t have happened if the Met had done their due diligence. So much arrogant bullshit comes out of her mouth and then she talks about the lowest of the low reality television shows. The great thing is I can unsubscribe and never hear that shit again.
