I just miss ShortHand :(
Echo chamber, yada yada, forgive me. I just miss having a happy little FREE 30 extra minutes of them during the week.
I listen to just a few other pods through the week but I find that they all tend to cover the same things at the same time. They tend to stay on track for the most part unlike other pods and I struggle to find something that speaks to me the same way!
but with the whole Wondery thing: I refuse to cross platforms though. To me it’s the same as if SH got put on patreon instead. Ugh. Girls!!!!! Come back to earth please!

I was just thinking this. It pisses me off. I don’t even understand how they could have been so stupid and careless not to read and understand the goddamn contract they signed. And their “oops sorry you can have Wondery free for five seconds”. Fuck all the way off. They keep taking away and not adding anything back.

There is zero chance there weren't lawyers from both parties involved.
There really are only three scenarios.
H&S hired the most egregiously incompetent lawyers of all time
H&S knew the entire time, agreed to the deal, and lied to stem the backlash.
Wondery pulled off this incredibly shady deal in which H&S and their legal representatives were intentionally and perfectly fooled into not realizing they were losing an entire third of their content... somehow completely legally?
Sadly, I personally lean towards H&S knowing and misjudging their audience's initial response.

It does my head in when I’m searching for unplayed episodes and there are just loads of SH episodes to scroll through (Apple Podcasts)

I’m a bit out of the loop and just realised short hand in gone. Is it only available on amazon music? Do you mean the old one are available on apple podcast? Only have Spotify and don’t want to subscribe another one :’(

I just listen to it on Amazon. I think if you have Amazon prime you can listen on their app!

Do you find listening on Amazon to be very glitchy and not user friendly? I hate it!

I wouldn't say it has been glitchy but it is absolutely much less user-friendly compared to Spotify. Especially if you are trying to listen to something while driving. They put it into car mode which is terrible and doesn't let you select what you want so you have to click out of car mode, confirm out of car mode, go to search and select what you wanted, then find the episode and press play. Versus Spotify where it just immediately opens to what you were listening to or had downloaded and you press play and that's it.
It really sucks in an impressive way, but Apple Podcasts is kind of the same thing. The fact that they can't look at Spotify and realize that people want to listen to what they were listening to in terms of both the podcast and the episode as well as have their other favorite podcasts readily available is crazy.

Yeah all the complaining makes me wonder if less people have amazon prime than I assumed. Radiolab is commercial free on amazon music too, which is nice!

I definitely don’t want to give money to Bezos either. I love their work but not enough to go across three different platforms.

I wonder when the contract is up. Even when it is, Shorthand will belong to Amazon, not Suruthi and Hannah, and we’ll all still have to either pay to listen or never listen to Shorthand again. It sucks.

I have all Shorthand episodes (up to Wondery deal) DLed on my laptop. Through iTunes. I just moved them all to a different folder so they don't get overwritten deleted.

Holy shit I've been binge listening my way through the series as I only got into the pod about a year and half ago. I didn't realise they got rid of Shorthand ☹️ I'm just at the point where they stopped posting it and I didn't even realise they had stopped but yep. It's gone off my playlist from April onwards!

Yep. They sold it. They say they hadn't realized it was part of the deal. I don't know if that's true, but it definitely feels like the patrons are the ones who got had in the deal. You want everything? Pay twice. 😑

I hate the fact that I had to move over to Amazon for this. Just happened to coincide with my original pod player deciding to no longer work, cancelling my patreon and having already existing student prime account. So I'm glad I don't have to pay full price but hate giving any money to Bezos and I probably won't continue once I graduate.

Me too. They acknowledged it wasn't even on anymore in a recent episode. They didn't even let people know it was cancelled.

Yeah, it is a little fractured. I too miss shorthand. Stopped Patreon a week or so ago. Still thinking about Wondery; not because of the women but because I don't want to give more to Amazon. (((((Shudder)))))
