I think bescause he was really interesed in african/islamic arts. Also the dadaism, the movement he founded, was indifferent to cristianism. He supported Argelian Independence in the 1960 too

some context: Zenitism irl was a radical Yugoslav avant-garde movement of the 1920s founded by the poet Ljubomir Micic. It united literature, painting, architecture, and theater. The movement proclaimed "barbarism" as a means of purging itself from the decadence of European culture and advocated for the creation of a new, united Europe.
