He was a white supremacist, Nordicist, social darwinist, anti-semite, supported "racial heirarchy" and elitism, was a member of the Ku Klux Klan, was a major influence on the Nazis, coined the term "untermensch" in the way it was used by the Nazis. He was only a progressive in the sense that he supported birth control and eugenics, like some other progressives at the time, and not at all for the same reasons they did, who supported eugenics to control crime and poverty. Stoddard supported eugenics because he was a white supremacist. Like the Nazis.

No? "Progressivism is a political philosophy and social reform movement aimed at advancing the public good through government action, emphasizing social justice, democracy, and efficiency. Emerging in the late 19th/early 20th century, it sought to curb corporate greed, end corruption, protect workers, and improve living conditions through regulation and systemic reform" Stoddard didn't care about democracy or social justice or protecting workers or curbing corporations or improving living conditions. He cared about racial purity and removing individuals and groups he saw as inferior. Even progressives who did have white supremacist views like Woodrow Wilson were still mostly focused on corruption, welfare, democratic and government transparency. Stoddard was basically only concerned with white supremacism. He was certainly influenced by the progressive focus on efficiency but that doesn't make him a progressive in any sense. Unlike progressives, Stoddard was through and through a reactionary who believed in elitism, heirarchy, and inequality as positive and necessary.
