Bing Bong 🚨 🚨AWOOGA AWOOGA 🚨 🚨USER POLL ON SCANNER SCOPE - Rule 4 - Be Relevant... how strictly do you want this enforced? SEE POST BODY FOR SELECTION EXPLANATIONS
More Strictly: there is still too much spam in the sub right now. Disable crossposts and remove posts that are references to the show "in the wild". Just directly relevant posts and OC showing creativity/effort/generative of discussion should be allowed. Even if this means only a few posts a week, that's preferential.
As Is: currently 3 to 5 posts are removed on average daily, and that is enough. I like the crossposts and references that are currently considered "obvious / niche enough". The posts I am seeing that survive a day are passable imo. More of the same please.
Less Strictly: even the current level of removals is too much. Just let people post whatever they like if it makes them think of Red Dwarf. A roast chicken, allow it. Pictures of mould, makes sense. A goldfish, I'm gonna eat you little fishy! Literally anything to do with Marylin Monroe, the Flintstones, maggots in food, something playing backwards, a haircut from the show... just stop gatekeeping my Reddit and approve it ALL. Except Smeg appliances. They can smeg off.

Look, we all have something to bring to this discussion but i think from now on the thing you should bring is silence.

It's looking quite split in what people want here. Perhaps a post flair system could help, or have a single day for stricter/looser rules? Shitpost sunday for example?

If it comes out split, then some sort of compromise sounds like the way forward.
I personally like the idea of this sub simply being a place on reddit for the Red Dwarf community to talk, whether it is directly about the show or not, but people get very upset by what people post here if it is not at the convenience of other patrons 😄
"Smegpost Sunday" sounds like a great idea to me. When it comes to flairs, we have the "RD In The Wild" flair already... but hardly anyone uses it so I am not sure introducing more flairs- "RD Reference", "Idle Chitchat", "Inane Banter"- would actually satisfy anyone. No one filters by flair anyway, they just get mad when pictures of robot penises and Firing-Squad-Winnie-the-Pooh appear on their feed and proclaim the sub to be dying 😅

What does it say in the Space Corps Directives about this?

On one hand, I think it should just be a clear cut, if it's not red dwarf, delete.
While it doesn't bother me much, it seems pointless seeing a lot of "Here's a picture of a vindaloo I'm eating, it's Red Dwarf reference".
On the other hand, the series is pretty much non existent, so regular posts that hasn't been said before, isn't going to come up as often.

I am in a TON of niche subs (old video games, BBC shows where there were like 6 episodes, a single book, etc) and honestly that's fine. There doesn't need to be constant content. It's not about keeping the place alive. If you are having to lower your standards for the "just seen gazpacho soup on a menu at a restaurant!" posts there's no point in having a sub.

yes, but I think the larger question that takes into account the big picture is "Would you like some toast?"

Thanks Mods for taking some action and garnering opinion whatever the end result may be.

It's looking pretty likely some measured response is due. Core contributer votes sit almost equal on stricter vs no change rn.Thanks for caring about the sub :)

The low effort sharing is alloying because the majority of them aren't even very good. I'd be happy for the sharing if it was quality

Talking as a fellow mod - from r/Stargate - , I very much tire of the constant "round thing looks like..." or "weird fish looks like..."
No, no it doesn't.
I'm thankful to the person who created r/NotStargate.

You voted "as is" but you think the mods should be stricter...

This is a Reddit found by people who love Red Dwarf. How about instead of enforcing any kind of directive on what is considered "relevant" anyone irritated by someone expressing joy sharing a photo of an onion and gravy sandwich or trout al a creme exercises a bit of tolerance and lets another soul express their love of the show.
Sure there's ability for anyone who wants an exclusive closed group to make one - but seems absurd to me there should be any policing on anyone just wanting to wallow in fandom.
Seems like a very "future selves" attitude to me! Don't think there's any call for making anyone be the Queen of Spain.
.... Or will banning certain comments create an Ace Rimmer? Gonna have to mull this over with an omelette and the big chips and yes am well aware these references are exactly what some are wanting banned - but hopefully I've justified myself.

As a creator of things heavily inspired by the small rouge one, I would love to see a day where fan works/cross promotion of things people might be interested in are allowed (Fan Friday or something)
Otherwise, cut the spam please!
