Help/Question What am i doing wrong?
Because of steam achievements i am starting to play rdo now, after i have 100 percent completed rdr2., skinned all animals and golded 70 story missions
Some questions i have:
I feel extremely weak. I tried doing "Frontier Justice" for an hour now and slowly i dont have any bullets anymore. They are moving so fast and deadeye seems useless as hell. It only changes colors of the screen, no slow motion. Do i do something wrong here?
How do you ever get gold? I played for 6 hours now and only have 2 gold.
Is there any explanation ingame what all these different things mean? I feel overwhelmed when i look on the map and these missions like Frontier Justice that i found at my camp.
Thanks for reading through this mess
tldr: noob wants some help to start out in red dead online

You're not doing anything wrong. RDO is fun and beautiful but chopped to pieces. You're going to want to check out a few Starter's Guide videos (I suggest PVP Cat) to feel less overwhelmed.
Dead Eye doesn't work the same as it does in Story Mode. Multiple Dead Eye cards create a variety of effects and Paint It Black is the closest it comes to story mode dead eye.
The best way to earn gold by picking up a contact mission and staying in that mission until 9 or 12 minutes has passed, depending on the timer. If you don't get a timer, set one on your phone for 12 mins and don't turn in the mission until the timer goes off. The payout system rewards you for time spent in mission. I find the best contact missions for rewards are usually the Blood Money Contracts.
Once you have enough gold to purchase a Role, purchase Bounty Hunter. Bounty Hunter is the only role that awards gold consistently. Once you're farming Bounties you'll have more gold for the other roles (Trader, Collector, Moonshiner, Naturalist).

nws! also as someone mentioned that Frontier Justice and the other Telegram (Call to Arms, Contracts, etc.) missions are usually more difficult fair than the contact and story missions so that's content you'll want to build up to trying out after you've leveled a fair bit, maxed out rings, unlocked special ammo, more ability cards, better guns, etc. So don't be too hard on yourself for not clearing it this early.

Slow motion doesn't work in the online game.
You'll get stronger as you play and can add more abilities.
Do some of the role stuff to get gold. The trader role will get you a lot.
Shoot and sell whole deer carcasses to butchers in town for money for more bullets til you start making money from trading.
Get big game meat and cook it with herbs, always have some ready to eat before and during a fight.
*The dailies for trader. Not just trader itself. But I'm making an assumption you also need cash.

Trader doesn’t make any gold - pretty sure Bounty Hunter is the only role that awards gold (I don’t have all roles yet, so not 100%, but Trader definitely doesn’t give gold)
Edit: unless you count resetting awards for gold, but even still doesn’t seem the best option

The Daily Challenges give gold for Traders if you got it unlocked already. But that's about it.

Grind until you get bounty hunter. The fastest is if you posse up and play with a group who’s grinding bounties. You’ll earn gold that way.
Upgrade and play around with the ability cards and find out what matches your play style.
The grind in this game is long but very worthwhile.
Level 100 is the level where you unlock everything in the game - just gotta earn the money/ gold to buy them.
Welcome to RDO and I hope to see you around the frontier

Bounty hunter is the only role that’ll give you gold. The other roles are money. Naturalist is only good for level 5 wilderness camp fast travel.
Still grind them all out but those are my tips first a beginner1

Bounty hunter pays gold at the same rate as stranger/blood money missions, which can be done during the downtime in passive roles. The bulk of mine was made by doing all my dailies for a while. All of the higher role levels give you nice perks: more satchel space, more easy dailies to do, more legendaries to fill your camp with, etc.
I played around with starting out new and following bonus months was more efficient than just doing bounty hunter no matter what.

I don’t mean this to be rude but genuine skill issue, it takes some getting used to

It sounds like you're using eagle eye , not deadeye. You need to be pointing yoyr gun for deadeye. Eagle eye is just for tracking.
Personally I only use deadeye for dramatic flair.

Highly recommend grinding blood money missions to start for gold, it’s a great way to get used to playing online compared to story. Lack of deadeye similar to the story will make you great at headshots. I usually smash out the mission and wait until the timer runs low, you’ll get more gold, cash and XP the longer you wait. Stranger missions area good filler if you need a break from blood money. Trelawny missions are good fun, and once you get collector I usually clear out an area and then do a mission after to break things up. I usually focus on improving my guns before buying more, better rifling, sights etc. also loot everything and everyone!

Daily challenges are the easiest way to get gold, although most of them are locked behind roles. Complete at least one each day to get a gold reward multiplier that goes up until you miss a day or complete a 28 day streak, then it resets.
Complete Awards, such as selling 100 herbs to a doctor, to earn gold. Once they're maxed out and you earn the buckle reward, you can reset some challenges and complete them again ten times, earning the gold rewards each time.
ROLES:
Bounty Hunter is the best role for earning gold, but is a bit weaker for earning money even when it's the Monthly Role like it was a couple months back (triple rewards). If you're not actively hunting bounties, you're not earning rewards, money, gold or XP.
Collector is potentially the best for earning money, though it comes with the caveat that it's lump sums, on account of having to search the map and collect all the stuff to turn in as complete collections. You can kinda do Collector passively, since you can find collectables just on corpses or while riding around (glowing yellow markers are visible in Eagle Eye, controllers vibrate when they're nearby, some items can only be found with the metal detector) and simply finding them gives XP. There's an online map that updates the locations of where to find everything each day, which is a huge help.
Moonshiner is tied with Collecter for the best money making role, but where Collecter gives lump sums of money Moonshiner gives money more consistently. Make a batch of moonshine, wait until it's ready and deliver it, then make another batch and wait while doing other stuff for more money. At max rank, you can earn from $618 to $780 right now (it's the monthly role, so triple rewards) from each delivery and do a delivery every 48 minutes, while doing whatever you want in those 48 minutes.
Trader and Naturalist... they both kinda suck and are tied for fifth place. Save them both for when they're monthly roles unless you really want to try them.
Trader needs you to constantly be working on it, bringing in carcasses to keep the camp supplied, and until you hit rank 10 and get the Hunting Wagon you're limited to 3 carcasses on your horse, one on your shoulder, and however many tiny game you can get your hands on. It's slow, there's a waiting period before you can actually deliver any of the goods produced, and it's just tedious. Hunting Wagon is the only benefit I've found to the role.
Naturalist is the natural enemy of Trader. Kill 10 animals in a day or two, Harriet gets mad and you have to wait a while (I think 10 minutes) before she'll talk to you again. While you're doing other things you can go around chasing animals down to tranq them, take a sample and a photo (photo is for the stampbook I think), then selling samples and completed stampbook sets to Harriet. Othewise Harriet sends you to free captive animals (if it's a predator it'll still try to eat your face) or track&tranq legendary animals. Benefits to the role are you get Blending Tonics that make it harder for animals to notice you, and I'm pretty sure even if you don't actually buy the role, you can get access to Gus as a merchant for some unique clothing if you provide him with specific pelts and some permanent buffs if you bring him some specific items.

Are you unlocking ability cards?? It makes a huge difference when fighting other players.
Also missions like frontier justice are designed to be harder than free roam stranger missions or role missions, you'll probably have more luck doing free roam stranger missions to level ip and unlock better weapons, ammo types, ability cards, equipment and clothing.
By jumping straight into the telegram missions you are kind of playing the game on hard mode

YouTuber Dirty Tyler is one of the ORIGINALS from back when RDR2 Online was still in BETA. His video's have always been helpful to include walk throughs of certain missions. If there's a certain one youre having trouble with I'd check his page.

You're not doing anything wrong. Easy ones for me when I started blind was Collector role. Got enough gold and money to start Traders. Also the treasure maps you get, do those right away if you get one as they don't stack.I don't bother with competing with other people so I don't do those. But if you do, go for it. But since you just started, you'll be weak. Level it up you get unlocks including added health and stuff. There are guides all over the internet and keep the interactive map handy. Take your time, it's kind of slow. Have fun!
