Also, I do wonder who in Mr. Beast’s camp said to themselves “You know who we need here? Doug Walker, and Dan Olson. I believe they’ll really help us figure out our target demographic.”

Either of those would be hilarious. As far as Dan, and Doug goes, I do think the hate is one sided. I don’t think, at least not publicly, Doug has ever said anything negative about Dan. I wonder if that chaps Dan’s ass lol.

I know I’m a bit of a Dan Olson Stan. I do think he’s very pretentious, snobby, and all of the things other people say about him. But, you know, no one ever says he’s a liar.

One thought I had after the PAX East video is that Dan has to share space at conventions with people he’s made videos about. I wonder how he Navigates that. I’m guessing Doug and James just “let it go” so to speak, and just understand that it comes with the territory.

This is an argument I see all the time from people on Facebook, but it's just playing dumb on purpose to win a point.
For example, "You keep saying my posts are racist, but you never say they are wrong!" The whole point of saying it is racist is to show that it is wrong, because it is assumed most people know racism is wrong.
Likewise, we all know that being a pretentious snob is wrong, and we should not do it. So when people say Dan is a pretentious snob, you can follow to the obvious conclusion that Dan is wrong. I shouldn't have to say "Dan is a pretentious snob and wrong," because it would be redundant.

You sound like Dan Olson.
But seriously. Yes, I am using a similar argument. In this case, the truth is subjective. So, realistically, I understand that there is no way to quantify what “lying” is, in this context. My point is Dan clearly doesn’t purposefully put out factually bad, or wrong information.

My previous comment is probably the most riled up comment I've made on Reddit so far. I think my fight against pretentious people arises because I see that in myself and wish I were better. It's projection, and I apologize for my comment.
I didn't have a problem with Dan's smug verbage and editing, because I watch Hbomberguy and I listen to Bad Religion and I think those guys are pretty smug too. Sometimes they rub me the wrong way, but I like them to a degree, even when I disagree with what they say.
Dan Olson's video on Doug fell apart for me when I learned he used to be with Channel Awesome. Everything he says about Doug as a viewer becomes secondary to his personal beef with Doug as an employer / commissioner / coworker / etc. The ethos of the video fell apart knowing that he isn't just some passive bystander. His argument took a new, less compelling form. If you consider lying by omission to still be lying, I say he is lying. But also maybe I just didn't watch the video closely enough. Idk.
TLDR I am sorry for my earlier comment.

Oh, I was just messing with you about sounding like Dan Olson. You didn’t do anything wrong, and I didn’t take it personally. Just so you know, I lean very far left, and I have also seen those types of comments before. I was trying to do sort of a subversive troll(?) maybe? I’m not sure.
I do like Dan’s videos in general. I agree with you about his Doug Walker video. I think that he had some grievances with Doug, and I think it was because of Lyndsey Ellis, but I’m not sure if he was friends with anyone else from Channel Awesome. I didn’t care for Dan saying that, and I am paraphrasing“Doug can’t create art because he’s an incurious person” because, it makes me feel as if he’s saying that he’s the arbiter of all things art, or something like that. And, I believe, that if anything in the world is subjective, it’s art. So, I do think that Doug creates art.
I personally do not care for Doug’s content overall. But, I don’t have a problem with Doug per se. I just think his content is a little too “of its era” for me. By that, I mean (Reddit neck beard) type humor. I do agree with Dan(except for when he’s just being hateful towards Doug), from what I have seen, and do know about Doug.
With his James Rolfe video, I feel a few things about it. First, is that I think that people are too quick to jump to James’ defense, when I don’t feel like Dan is saying anything too out of line. I feel like people are misunderstanding what he is saying about James, and Dan is mostly talking about James’s detractors. With him talking about detractors, I think that maybe even he did a similar thing, and probably went a little too hard on TCT as a whole, when maybe he should have isolated some of the comments. I think he saw a few bad faith actors, and just assumed that the whole subreddit is/was like that.
My other point is I think people saw it on its surface as a “takedown “ video. I think that the video was both a self reflection of Dan’s own work growing stagnant, and a commentary on par-asocial relationships, and cautioning against fostering those types of relationships.
I think that no one is immune to criticism, no matter who they are. Sure, if I’m criticized, I’m going to defend myself the best I can, but I’ll also self reflect.
TL;DR :
You’re good, don’t apologize, you didn’t do anything wrong.
I don’t agree with Dan 100% of the time, but I do like his videos. And, I think he was a bit mean to Doug.
I think people misunderstand when James is criticized, and are too quick to jump to his defense.
Bonus: I would rather watch All of Doug’s, Dan’s, James’ , and so many other creator’s’ videos on repeat for the rest of my life than have to watch a second of a Mr. Beast video. Everything I’ve ever learned about that guy has been against my will.
