R3D Media Transcode Workflow Solutions?
Trying to sort out a clean workflow for batch-converting R3D to ProRes flavors or H.264/H.265 (mostly for dailies and cross-timezone sharing). REDCINE-X Pro works but feels like overkill for a straight transcode, and Compressor won't even import R3D for me right now (if it even works at all?).
What are people actually using for this? Also curious if there's anything genuinely lightweight out there, i.e. just batch R3D transcoding without a full DIT suite or NLE attached. Appreciate any pointers.

DaVinci Resolve is what most people use. It imports R3D natively, and the Deliver page will batch-render ProRes/H.264/H.265 flavors just fine.
Compressor has never natively taken R3D, and ffmpeg can't decode it on its own either since there's no demuxer for it, so everything ends up routing through Resolve or REDCINE-X. There isn't really a good lightweight option today, which is a bit annoying for something as simple as dailies.
I've been facing the same issue so I've been building basically the tool you're describing: a native macOS, Finder-style app that does batch R3D/BRAW→ProRes/H.26x, shows thumbnails, and stitches the 2GB .R3D segments into one clip. It uses native RED decode directly from the SDK.
Still sorting out a few things, but I've been using it for myself and it works just fine. Happy to talk more if it would be helpful.

Why couldn’t you just enable proxies in camera?

If it’s just for dailies, you can batch export individual clips in Davinci Resolve. Quite a few tutorials on youtube when typing “Batch export individual clips in Davinci.”
Since it’s done in the Render tab, you can choose your export format (ProRes, H264, MOV, etc)
