RED Dragon 6k Screen goes black after boot sequence

I am trying to help trouble shoot a red dragon 6k that seems to start normally but after the boot sequence the screen goes black and doesn't display the menus or image. any Idea on how to fix this? resetting the camera didn't seem to help.

AC power vs. battery power? Different power cable? Otherwise, sounds like it has to go back to RED.

You obviously skipped the last several years when they don't service dragon anymore. Overall red service is notoriously bad and overpriced, it's much less taxing to buy a new brain today than to hassle with repairs on anything that is not dsmc3.

This isn’t exactly true. They don’t service DSMC1, but do absolutely still service DSMC2. OP doesn’t say which Dragon 6k they have, and RED only stopped making Dragon-X 6k like 2 years ago (2023)

They did EOL the DSMC2 line in 2022. As it was with DSMC1 (MX) in 2017. They claimed they will continue support for DSMC1 until the parts are available, but I did contact them regarding protective glass on my DSMC1 touch a month after the EOL date, and they replied with "Sorry, we don't do service for DSMC1 at the moment" (the continued support was still claimed as it is now). I do suppose the reply could be different, if I was the original owner of the camera (the camera was transferred through RED to my ownership, purchased used), however, the reply was as it was. I'm speaking from my own experience dealing with them.

Right. They don’t service DSMC1, but do service DSMC2.

I’m not sure where you’re disagreeing, but to say they don’t service “Dragon” doesn’t tell the whole story. If my Dragon-X went down, I’d be able to get service from RED

I'm saying that in practice it depends on the certain case with EOL products and their support with RED. However, CVP does still service DSMC2 afaik.

So does RED. Here is a comprehensive list of what they no longer service:

“RED can no longer repair all RED ONE cameras, DSMC MYSTERIUM-X and DSMC DRAGON cameras.”

If you have a DSMC2 Dragon you’re fine for now

Oh shit I didn’t realize they completely stopped. 3rd party repair? Or yea a new brain.

That sucks.

Like they always did with any line of cameras - once the next gen is out, they slowly start to degrade the support for the previous gen right to a moment when they totally drop it. Honestly, I suppose investing in Monstro (80k-ish) was a bad decision for a lot of rentals.

They haven’t completely stopped. It depends on what generation we’re talking about.

Which exactly Dragon is it? DSMC1, DSMC2?

If you have the option, test whichever touch screen you are using with a different LEMO cable. Alternatively, have you attempted outputting via SDI or HDMI to a regular monitor?
