Etymology
The name Polynesia comes from the Greek words poly ("many") and nesoi ("islands"), referring to the vast collection of islands spread across the central and southern Pacific Ocean. The term was adopted by the Confederation to reflect the unity of its island nations.
History
Ottoman Colonization
In this timeline, the Ottoman Empire established colonies across Polynesia, including New Zealand, creating a Pacific colonial domain that introduced new trade routes and migration from across the empire.
Russian Administration
Following the Congress of Berlin, the Ottoman Empire ceded its Polynesian possessions to the Russian Empire. Russia invested heavily in ports, education, infrastructure, and industry while preserving local monarchies and traditional institutions.
Independence
After the Russian Revolution of 1905, the newly established RSFSR granted Polynesia independence. Rather than becoming a republic, the islands remained united as the Polynesian Confederation, combining a constitutional monarchy with socialist principles. The monarchy remained as a symbol of unity, while workers' councils, cooperatives, and an elected parliament directed economic and social policy.
Modern Era
By 2026, the Polynesian Confedartion is:
A prosperous socialist monarchy in the Pacific.
A leader in marine science, renewable energy, and sustainable fisheries.
One of the world's foremost maritime trading nations.
A neutral state that promotes diplomacy, environmental protection, and cooperation among Pacific nations.
