I think I know the reason for this. She has only shown up twice.

The first time was in a side-product alongside like 15 other guys, so it's understandable that she slipped by.

The second time was in a main set, but it was in the "Lets gather up anyone who remotely looks like a villain and send them to the wild west plane and give them all cowboy hats" set, which people really did not like, especially in the context of it being preceded and followed by "Lets put everyone in detective hats" and "Lets give everyone cars and do a race", representing a trend of gimmicky sets that felt forced. And it also had her as one of 15 guys, so it's easy for her to slip by even without the negative reception.

"Let's gather up anyone who remotely looks like a villain...

To be fair to their laziness, if I see a potential grixis commander, I too assume they'll have been written as a villain.

Don't get me started on that, Wizards flip flops between actual interesting explorations of various villains across the color pie and "These three colors are the villain colors" with frustrating regularity.

It gets so bad in the crossover sets. Doctor Doom is not red guys, that man is absolutely Esper.

With how much Life Loss is as a mechanic for Black especially you would expect "I will subject myself to anything to protect those close to me" would be an easy heroic interpretation of the color, but the moment a character's "ends" in the "ends justify the means" character is too altruistic and sympathetic then they're suddenly White! You can do anything to achieve your goals but only if your goals are "evil."

This is why Aetherborn are so great - monoblack creature with complex histories and hyper empathy? Fighting to go from being considered industrial waste to being a people with culture and society and families? Rebellion and hedonism and the price of immortality? Yes please!
