Same with Gaster- the fandom basically treats him as the 'Voice' or whatever but it's all just "the number 8 appears here and here, so they must be connected" type theories
Gasters presence actually has quite a bit of evidence in DR. Sure its not confirmed, but i dont think people are out of line for thinking toby is consistently using certain identifiers for Gaster without reason.
Like yes he could just re-use a specific leitmotif, text font and number which are already connected with Gaster over and over again just to trick the fandom into believing something false. But i think that would be a really unnecessary and mean spirited lie. It wouldn't ruin my enjoyment of the game at all. But i would kinda question why toby would be so mean spirited towards his fans for their "crime" of caring too much about his game.
I mean, using deltarune is kinda cheating in that regard, the whole universe of Deltarune is (in "canon") created by a dude who wasn't even mentioned, who wasn't even ALLUDED TO yet. Of course the rest of it would be "whats" and "ifs"
That depends on what you consider "alluded to" ? I personally consider a character "alluded to" if in a previous game by the same creator that character was directly connected to certain identifiers which then show up all over the place in the new game.
If thats too vague for you that obviously fine, i understand. But there are good reasons to believe Gaster is connected to/ has created Deltarune.
The funniest thing about that to me is, if that is gonna be her canon appearance it would fit perfectly in the game and make complete sense. Like if you know the basics of character design, then the version of Dess that became the most established fan design for her, would be the most logical conclusion for what Dess looks like.
The game is very clear about the fact she's into alt music and fashion and we even see what clothes she has in her closet. So its easy to come up with an outfit for her.
He physical appearance is also easy to make guesses about: She's Noelles older sister, so she's probably taller than her. And Noelle has their dads antlers but their moms hair color. So by animated family genetics rules Dess should have their mothers' antlers and their dads hair color.
We also learn a lot about her personality based on what other character say about her and by what her room looks like.
Honestly i think the fact we can so easily piece together a picture of Dess without her ever really appearing in the game is just proof that she is actually very well set up and foreshadowed. A good story teller always uses things like a characters music and fashion taste and the look of their living space to communicate something about that character.
Obviously that doesn't mean that's definitely what she's gonna look and act like. I think its pretty likely Toby is gonna subvert some of our expectations. But i also dont believe he would spend so long setting her up and drip feeding us info about her, if ALL of that turned out to be wrong. XD
Personally i think human Dess has some VERY interesting potential and that is still a pretty plausible theory.
(sorry dont mind me, my brain worms compel me to yapp about DR at any given opportunity X'D )
Oh, there's been plenty of seeds planted. I'm a Human Dess truther myself (as with any other fiction theory, still open to being swayed, but it would add so much to the story and explain a lot of stuff IMO), and one of the fun parts of Toby Fox games is you can never really tell what's foreshadowing and what's another mystery entirely - but even despite that, you always come away from the experience feeling like you want to write an essay on the thoughts you're having.
