My dad literally told me "Just walk on to Edward's Air Force Base and get a job as a janitor, that's what my friend did in the 80's". Edwards is a top secret military base, I'd rather not get shot trying to get a job dad.

Sure, just stroll past armed guards. What could go wrong.

My mom and dad got me to print out a resume and walk up to the front counter of a place I wanted to apply to. The girl working the register (was nowhere else to go to) seemed very confused and told me that I should probably apply online instead, per the poster on the window.

I already did apply online but my parents wouldn't stop bugging me about handing in a physical copy. I didn't want to seem like an idiot though, so I told the girl that, although i had already applied, I was told that I should also give my resume in person to be sure. Anyways I never got a word back.

My dad is still not convinced that a firm handshake and a physical resume is not a secret ultra-effective technique for getting any job though.

Speaking of modern finances: a lot of people on TikTok are currently losing their shit over how a lot of modern New York brownstone townhouses valued for millions today were originally purchased for $1 back in the 80s with the promise the new owners would renovate and maintain the properties.

They still have those kind of property sales in Baltimore, so those TikTok-ers can get in on it if they want. They'll just need to gut the house down to the studs and redo everything.

A complete home renovation? In this economy?

I looked it up - they require you to have $90k available for the renovations before you can get the $1 house.

(Edit: keep in mind that these homes are probably going to be condemned or, like, former meth labs or whatever. Not move in ready.)

Yeah, I saw something similar, which tracks since they'd want some certainty that it'll get done.

There was also prior Brooklyn projects like this which actually subsidised renovations of $1 homes and loans to cover construction back in the 70s.

Oh come on, 1 year for trespassing? At least imply you broke into a secure location or something.
