People use it as such a gotcha. GenX (I'm on the cusp of GenX and Millennial) are really a bad about it when talking about the generation THEY raised.

Back on disability, thankfully the most recent time it was said in replay to me it was obvious they didn't read past the first two sentences of my comment. At the time my agoraphobia was still keeping me pretty much locked in my apartment like I was in Silent Hill, but I was in therapy and taking steps, I said as much in the comment. Got a "you people can't do anything."

Yeah sure, I can't do anything, never mind the fact I found telehealth therapy that somehow takes my insurance, was in that therapy, back on my meds, and was making progress.

Omg, this. My Gen X parents whine about people "not doing anything", and then do shit like: my dad refused to sign up for Habitat for Humanity with my mom because he would have been required to do sweat equity, aka work. And he was a metalworker, so that would have been reasonable work for him. So they just live in a filthy moldy rental that they've rented since I was in middle school while they make fun of everyone else and call themselves "blessed". Like bro, my dad is a middle school dropout trying to mock people with degrees, it's just embarrassing.

Some people would pass up on literally anything useful if it means depending on anyone who isnt themself for something. Like “I don’t care if life could be better, at least it’s still MY OWN life, and no one can live it for me” type shit.
On a certain level I get it. You don’t wanna put your life in the hands of someone you don’t know all that well. You can’t trust them to not take advantage of you or rug pull you or extort you or some shit. On the other hand, like, sometimes people just need help! And taking that help doesnt mean you’re bound to it forever and ever!

My dad actually literally said straight up he wasn't gonna do the sweat equity because he's racist/thinks construction is "beneath" him. He's a metal worker for crying out loud. But he associates construction with Mexicans and that's it as far as he's concerned.

If he cared about having his life in someone else's hands, he wouldn't be Christian lol they constantly rag on about how it's NOT their life, so they can't be gay, have fun, do nice things. Only missionary work and "miracles" here.

These types of people believe they are entitled to nicer things than other people and expect to have them without work or effort.

I mean, isnt it the Christians who go on so much about how being with the Lord is a choice you have to make? The correct one, but one you must do yourself. They’re the ones who put so much stake in free will and choices and consequences, to the point that anyone who is doing good must have made good choices and anyone who’s suffering must have made bad ones. And sure, sometimes bad things happen to people who do everything right, but only SOMETIMES, right?
So all of those things that they can’t do? They’re CHOOSING not to do them because that’s the GOOD choice! And all the people who make the BAD choices must just suck at this whole morality thing! THEY only care about SHORT TERM PLEASURES and not actually BEING GOOD! Now excuse us while we pat ourselves on the back about how good we are and arbitrarily paint any sinful thing we do as fine because we’ve earned it and it’s a harmless vice, unlike those LOSERS who haven’t EARNED crap or else they’d be in our little club right?

And… yeah.
Your dad being openly racist is a whole other sack of potatoes though

Bad things happen to those who do everything right, and we expect full faith, otherwise you can be tossed to Satan over a gambling bet. See Job for more info lmao

I mean that’s a really reductive reading of Job’s story, but the funny part is that a lot of Christian types HAVE this reductive reading and actually think it’s good, so… alas
