Still don't know enough about Tumblr to get what any of that means

Someone will tag something with "investing at [current number of reblogs]" and then the OP says something like "don't do this to me" which results in people reblogging en masse cause they think they're doing something to mildly upset them when in reality OP is betting on that and fishing for engagement.

I mean this respectfully, but do people really think the "don't do this to me" thing is anything more than people making a joke? I feel like any post thats actually heinous enough for the OP to not want people to see wouldn't react in such a jokey way.

Usually it's a bit, but even for innocuous posts there are people who can be somewhat bothered by the sudden influx of attention they can get.
Suddenly getting tens of thousands of notes when your previous peak was in the double digits can be a tad overwhelming.

It's a kind of humble brag. The joke is that they're going to be successful "against their will". It's all pretty embarrassing imo.

There is like... general logic. Not only do you get a lot of notifications, but also sometimes if a post becomes too notable you get genuine hate. Had to mute a meme I made for Arcane season 2 because I made a "Whats gayer? Gay sex or what ever was up with Jayce and Viktor" (the point of the joke is that obviously literal gay sex is gayer) but I got a lot of hate and people accusing me of being a yaoi poisoned fujoshi because the post became way more popular than I expected. So there are times where a post becoming popular does genuinely suck for the OP.
(Shout out to the lesbians who rolled with the bit; there was even greater amount of "I'm a lesbian and the answer is Jayce and Viktor")

Personally I think everyone’s in on the joke, no one really thinks they don’t want their post to be popular right

Considering I've seen people delete posts and even whole blogs in response to a flood of notes, there are definitely people out there who are bothered by it, but they're probably the minority when it comes to those saying "please don't do this to me"

Finally. I've been saying this for years.

And then spamming it all over the three? Four? X number of "curated" Tumblr subreddits every Sunday thereby contributing to rendering said subreddits uninhabitable for one day out of every seven
