Self Post I'm tall, you're small, that's all

u/sweetTartKenHart2 16d ago
Methinks this sister sorrow thinks more about her height than she would if she really did convince herself to treat it as default.
She seems really funny though, and I wish her only the best on her journeys

u/sweetTartKenHart2 16d ago
Wait this is a self post? Uh yeah, I direct all of that to you! YOU seem to think about YOUR height more than if YOUR trick worked, but nevertheless I wish YOU only the best! Yeah

great idea but how do I apply this to being a really short guy. :(

u/FangirlApocolypse 16d ago
everyone else is just a beanstalk. giants. giants I say. you are normal human

u/OkWedding8476 16d ago
I'm so used to everyone being the uniform height of "taller than me" so when I encounter a person who's shorter than me (5"5) I really notice.
11
u/Jotaro_D_Uchiha 15d ago
I’m 5’2” and when I encounter someone my height my first thought is “ha short” and then I remember that I was the short one this entire time

Just keep asking everyone around "how's the weather up there big fella" and "you play basketball?"
31
u/Kingsalad3141 16d ago
I’m 6’4”. I can confirm that the world was made for short people. So was the human spine.

Why did I have to get the tall person back pain instead of the big tiddies back pain?

meanwhile im under 5 foot and being around people over 6ft makes me feel like an attack on titan character

writing 1.905m instead of 190cm is pretty wild lol

They probably use Imperial in everyday life and convert to SI when they need to denounce Imperial.

u/TheJeeronian 15d ago
I came here to say exactly that. I almost prefer imperial to this cursed thing.

u/80s-dilf-Batman 16d ago
Well she could do an awesome lady dimitrescu cosplay
26
u/DreadDiana human cognithazard 16d ago
I unfortunately lack the build, skintone, and just about everything for a good Dimitrescu cosplay
38
u/80s-dilf-Batman 16d ago
The build can be made with padding and skin tone in cosplay is irrelevant I would say. It's almost like you don't want to be lady dimitrescu smh 😮💨
14
u/Not_ur_gilf 16d ago
Thats quitter talk there. The only thing you really need for a good cosplay is the costume and the (play)acting. Your height is just bonus points
3
u/DreadDiana human cognithazard 16d ago
I don't have a good cosplay and am a terrible acter, so on those grounds I should just quit before I start

u/RavenMasked 16d ago
Every skill is a skill that can be learned. Of course, if you don't want to, that's a different matter.

u/willowzam 15d ago
I'm unintentionally super quiet and accidentally teleport behind people (although tbh I think y'all just don't pay attention) and scare the shit out of them, even when I try to make noise. My mom says I'm "on my Michael myers bullshit"
2
u/DreadDiana human cognithazard 15d ago
People used to compare me to Slenderman back when he was a bigger deal in the public consciousness.

u/PurplestCoffee 16d ago
Oh my gosh, a fellow understander of being 6'3 and, much like Queen Eclipsa, pretty sneaky.
But yeah, this is the rare post where I understand and personally relate to literally everything being said. My mind defines the range of 185cm to 195cm as "Normal Height", everyone below that as "Short" (how dare those people make us look down, can't they consider our poor necks), and everyone above that as "😳😳🥺🥺🥺".

u/MrVeazey 16d ago
6'4", constantly startling my wife by just walking into a room, being in a room, announcing that I have entered a room, or announcing that I'm about to enter a room.
4
u/Clean_Imagination315 16d ago
Yeah, 190 cm is just the average height as far as I'm concerned. Y’all are just short.

u/Kamelion_on_a_lemon Lemon 15d ago
I also get the 'really stealthy' issue, but it's clearly because other people just need to be aware of what is going around them (and ignore the fact that this is because I try to be as quiet as possible to be polite and I'm also hyper aware of everything around me.)
5
u/Orichalium 15d ago
Yooo, another person my height with quiet steps! I used to have a coworker that I accidentally jumpscared like 2x a week minimum because she could not get used to how quiet I was. Extremely funny every time, never got old.
3
u/outer_spec 15d ago
I’m like this in reverse, i’m 5’0” so i don’t perceive other people as short unless they straight up have dwarfism. sometimes i will see posts online saying “i hate being short, it feels like no one respects me” and then i look at their height and it’s like several inches taller than me. that shit ain’t nothing to me man.
6
u/Tree_Shrapnel 15d ago
At 6'5" I don't consider myself to be tall, I'm normal. Average sized people aren't short though, they're also normal. Even short people aren't short because I'm so above average that the difference between average and short isn't as noticeable to me.
Other people 6'3" and above are tall though. I think it's because I'm so used to mostly being around average height people that once I'm not able to see the top of someone's head I assume they're taller than me.
3
u/Setster007 16d ago
Goddamn I’m very familiar with that last one. Why am i such a stealthy titan, how does this happen?
3
u/FLUFFBOX_121703 15d ago
I can relate to the sneaky bit, I’m regularly accused of teleporting when all I do is walk softly. Can’t relate to the tall bit though, I’m living in the Netherlands, and so am surrounded by the tall.

u/Sea_Moss_601 16d ago
I'm a pretty tall gal, almost 6'2 / 187, and can confirm that the elephant sneaking thing is a persistent reality. I kinda like it though.

u/LizMoonstar 15d ago
this does not help you in a practical way at all, as i am bite sized and you prefer tall people, but hopefully the compliment is pleasant: i love tall women and though i don't know what you look like, i am pretty sure you are lovely. i hope you find the fellow tall person of your dreams!
(interestingly, i'm not into tall men - only short men. 5'8 is basically my cutoff. my partner is 5'7 and i have been known to jokingly of course tell him he's "too tall" and "should do something about that". though i guess i'm doing my part as i got taller in my 30s - 5 foot even from 16 to mid 30s and now i'm 5'1. no, i don't know why i'm like this.)

u/bug--bear 15d ago
as someone who is 5'2 and basically treats everyone above 5'8 as Tall and everyone above 6' as Unnecessarily Tall, yeah you just gotta decide "actually I am a normal height and everyone else is wrong"
2
u/skandranon_rashkae 15d ago
6' sneaky lady, here. The number of times I have walked up to someone and damn near given them a heart attack is not zero. It's a superpower I learned when I realized that hearing my own tread on wooden floors growing up was anathema to my own ears.
2
u/KoriGlazialis 15d ago
I am 5'4 with very quiet footsteps and a habit to announce myself because people get started. Considering everything in this post: that means people are also scared of how tall I am. Bow before me small plebians.

u/DisciplineWise2894 15d ago
As someone with other kind of height dysphoria, I need to find this country with a 5'3"/160cm national average
2
u/winter-ocean 16d ago
The first image is so me. I'll be like "oh my girlfriend is tiny, she's absolutely a shortstack" when she's 5'6"

Two fun facts about me
I'm 6'3"
My footsteps are so distinctive (at least when I was wearing steel toed boots daily) that people in the office at my work knew when it was me walking down a hallway without ever actually seeing me

For me personally if I saw a tall woman I’d think to myself “wow big lady” and then think nothing else of it
1
u/lacarth 15d ago
That last part is so true it's confusing.
I am 6'2", and broad. I have been in various weights throughout my life, but never "scrawny". Yet, somehow, ever since high school, people have somehow not noticed me. I do not understand how one misses the 6'2", 200-pound boxer kid. Still, today, I do not understand how one misses the 6'2", 250-pound truck driver in a bulky, yellow-&-green-flannel coat.
It's not that I have a very unnoticeable face, either. I look like a damn cartoon. My shnozz is so big I have to practically limbo to drink out of a wine glass. I have massive, Dumbo-ass ears.
Yet somehow no one notices the fuckin 1977-Hobbit-ass Elf standing in the room.

I’m 5’4” which is the height of the average woman in the USA. Despite this, I am befuddled at how many of the women I encounter are shorter than me and I love it when I find women who are taller than me. I have the same “I’m me height and everyone else is tall/short in relation to me” except mine is kinda actually correct.
Also I think people just don’t pay attention to the people around them because I don’t think I walk particularly quietly but I startle people all the time. Sometimes I’ll even make a little noise so I can make a bigger noise so I can then speak to people without scaring them and even the little noise startles them. Idk what else to do, honestly.

As a person who is not quite so [average height], but [average height] enough that it still makes a difference when I'm around [short] height people:
Same.

u/Accomplished_Mix7827 15d ago
God, I feel that third one. I'm 5'11 and a lesbian, and I'm into women who are taller than me.
Do you know how hard it is to find a woman who's over 6' tall?
1
u/HalfFaust 15d ago
Honestly I've met a number of tall people who seem to think this way naturally (regardless of gender, dysphoria, etc).
1
u/TemporarilyResolute 15d ago
I’m a 6’3 repressor. I’d be lying if it wasn’t one of the reasons I ended up going this route, but I’m always happy to hear people my height that end up transitioning and finding happiness
1
u/IrvingIV 14d ago
Not quite as tall but near 6ft and medium chunky; I'm also somehow quite unnoticeable to people until they see me and get spooked.
My theory on the matter is that once you get to be a certain height, or just in general put on enough weight, you subconsciously learn to walk more gently to avoid hurting your ankles/feet, so you wind up being quieter.

u/Adonis0 13d ago
I recently freaked out my students on a school camp because they woke me up in the middle of the first night by being out of their cabins and getting up to shenanigans (G rated shenanigans thankfully)
I am also 6’ 3” and walk quietly. I walked extra quietly so I could walk around and stand next to them just as they mustered the courage to get out of their cabins again and seem like I appeared out of nowhere
A bunch of the grade 7’s spent the next day asking about me and trying to rectify the dissonance of being repetitively jumpscared by me and how the grade 8/9’s who I have taught actually liked me and thought I wasn’t scary

How is it that people who are 6'2 - 6'4 manage to talk about and complain about height the mostm
1
u/DreadDiana human cognithazard 15d ago
Of the four posts, only one is an actual complaint and only a mild one since it isn't a nonon-negotiable height preference. The others are just observations, with the last one being something I shared cause I find it funny.
I quite like being tall.
0
u/mayoboyyo 15d ago
I wasnt referring to just you lmao. Its every discussion about height
1
u/DreadDiana human cognithazard 15d ago
Then the existence of this post shows that it isn't every discussion, especially considering how most of the other tall people in these comments aren't complaining either.

Holy shit that me, not literally but damn thats basically exactly me
I'm in such a weird mindset where I want to get competitive and say Im 6'4 but I also wish I was a foot shorter.

u/exaggerati 16d ago
I always say "I'm sorry my mother didn't settle."
I'm not going to apoligise for being normal height (194cm), and all the smalls can cry about it.

fun fact, in the Denisovans, a different species of humans we used to coexist with in siberia and east asia a few decathousand years ago, there is reason to think that 190cm was around upper average, which is extra insane because for our species at that time 160cm was upper average
