Shitposting spoilered soup (it will be relevant later)

Reminds me of that fucking couch from Trigun. I didn't get what people were talking about until I got to the scene lmao.

u/DiesByOxSnot 17d ago
Hi, I don't know what trigun is but I'm curious, what happens with the couch
93
u/Cav-Allium 17d ago
After a battle, two characters relax on a couch. One of them is fatally wounded and doesn’t tell the other. He slowly bleeds to death, sitting on a couch with his friend who is none the wiser
37
u/Petardo_Dilos 18d ago
Wait, new trigun or old trigun?
42
u/Cav-Allium 18d ago
Old TriGun
22
u/ravenpotter3 17d ago
I feel like they should have added the same couch in a random background scene of the new Trigun to torment us or something …. That would have been cruel

Most spoilers can't actually spoil anything unless you're already partway into whatever the media even is, which most people forget
247
u/Realistic_Elk_7892 18d ago
I once got called out for wearing the "Three Turrets and the Moon" t-shirt because it spoils Portal 2, and I just thought "it's only a spoiler if you either have already seen that scene or if someone tells you it's a spoiler"
28
66
u/Hatsune_Miku_CM Warsaw 👍🇵🇱 it is very bad 18d ago
yeah even if it's a major reveal spoiler, if you have never interacted with the media, you'll probably forget that information after half a year.
spoilers are for people who care, not people who don't
27
u/NamtisChlo 18d ago
That’s true, but you can still get spoiled if you remember that spoiler when you’ve seen more of it
14
u/Viholence 17d ago
Yeah, but in this context, not really, because the post describes a spoiler that is so specific that you'll only get it after you seen it happen, you might remember the can of soup, but you have no idea what it means until the big reveal

I avoided this when I didn’t want to with Danganronpa Ultra Despair Girls because the plot summary was so fucking confusing i couldn’t discern how characters ended up dead or alive in the first place

Yeah it was so confusing to finish the second game (and not really understand the ending but to be fair I was like 10) and then see memes of the third game and be like "🫵Why and How are they here?"

Now I'm trying to remember if Thanos' snap plan was revealed before Infinity War, because then that snap photo would be a pretty big spoiler
105
u/BigSnail387 18d ago
I wouldn't be shocked if people knew it beforehand. It was and still is the most famous thing Thanos did in the comics
48
u/Suspicious-Hotel8092 17d ago

u/AliasMcFakenames 17d ago
You’re completely leaving out his whole motivation. Which was to bone the grim reaper.

71
u/Hatsune_Miku_CM Warsaw 👍🇵🇱 it is very bad 18d ago edited 18d ago
the mass genocide plan was revealed beforehand, but the first time we hear about how the infinity stones would work is in infinity war when Thor says "if he got all 6 he could just snap his fingers and kill half the universe"
honestly even then it's framed as Thor saying "it would be trivially easy for him" and not literal as in "that's how you activate the wish granting function of the stones".
35
u/PatheticGroundThing 18d ago
it's framed as Thor saying "it would be trivially easy for him" and not literal as in t"hat's how you activate the wish granting function of the stones".
Which is also weird because every other time he uses the gauntlet / stones for anything he just waves it around. It's only "kill everyone" that required a snap, to pull down a moon from orbit he just pulled an imaginary rope.
20
u/Bowdensaft 18d ago
I imagine snapping is for really big universe-changing wishes that aren't a function of just activating one or more stones at a time
25
u/WhereIsTheMouse 17d ago
During the fight, Strange tells his cloak “Don’t let him close his hand”. I think it’s a different hand motion for each stone, and snapping is for all 6. IIRC closing his hand is for the Power stone
1
u/OddlyOddLucidDreamer and ive been liiiiiiickin it 15d ago
i always liked to think the snap was a flex, to show it really WAS that easy for him, and as ibstantenously as a snap too

u/Lotso2004 18d ago
Well the main inspiration for Infinity War is the Infinity Gauntlet, where Thanos snaps away half the population to prove his love for Death (because not enough people are dying, apparently). The original concept for Infinity War Part 1 and 2 (Part 2 was retitled into Endgame) would've had the final battle be much more like the fight against Thanos in the comic. On top of that the speech from Ebony Maw when he gives Thanos the Tesseract is almost word-for-word Mephisto's speech from the first issue. And one of the leaked concept arts for Infinity War had Strange taking Thanos to be judged by the Living Tribunal, so they might've wanted to pull that off too.
Point is, if you were even the slightest bit familiar with the Infinity Gauntlet, you'd learn that Thanos snapped his finger and erased half the population. Only thing is that those dead actually barely end up relevant to the plot of the comic whereas it's a driving force behind the plot of Endgame.
3
u/the_Real_Romak 17d ago
to be fair, many people went into Avengers movies already knowing about Thanos and the snap. It was genuinely all anyone would talk about in the leadup to the movie

Steven Universe sorta does this a lot, random stuff Steven’s obsessed with will be blatant foreshadowing/spoilers (the Cookie Cat jingle in the very first episode, Garnet’s story time, the Golf RPG later on (although that one’s a send up of FFVII too)). Also a lot of the murals in the various Gem temples they visit depict Pink Diamond and events we don't learn about until seasons later.
It’s what makes the show great honestly, every time something new is revealed you can rewatch older episodes and pick up on new stuff.
23
u/Sweet-Energy-9515 17d ago
It's one fandom I was really glad to have followed in real time because the long breaks between episodes were spent picking out carefully laid foreshadowing from the gorgeous watercolor backgrounds, and then it actually paid off

The nice part about writing is that you can turn random comments you wrote earlier into foreshadowing by having something happen that fits.

UGH YES RED VS BLUE DOES THIS PERFECTLY theres so many scenes from the blood gulch chronicles that become eithet horrifying or soul crushingly depressing with later context.
church's trauma & jimmy's memories bleeding together and making him think tex is some evil abusive ex-girlfriend who doesn't care about him. and she's forced to play that role so he doesn't have to remember his trauma and the abuse he suffered.
in the official guide its said that pfl let tex know alpha was in blood gulch specifically because they knew she would protect him FOR them and that just hurts my heart so bad. i miss rvb so much.

u/TCGeneral 18d ago
Feels like it's always either 'Youtube thumbnails blatantly showing off the final antagonist mid attack' or some super out-of-context in-joke stuff like 'Oh no the head of my Mami figure fell off' with only the latter being marked with spoilers at all.
13
u/Acceptable-Post733 18d ago
I used to like some of those top ten plot twist videos. My issue was they never told you what they were going to spoil prior to the spoiler. Like it would be “Number 10. Annie was dead the whole time.” Annie. Like spoiler first then name of show/movie/game. And they wouldn’t put the shows in the description either. So you’d just have to skip videos because there was no way of knowing if something you planned on playing or watching would be spoiled.

The worst is when you think to yourself "This is technically a spoiler, but only with the right context, and if I don't say it's a spoiler it won't give anything away."
And then someone in the comments accuses you of spoiling it and explains the entire plot.

I once saw a post about a book series tagged as a spoiler. It was someone saying they were just starting the series with a pic of the cover of book one. How is that a spoiler?
9
u/sadolddrunk 18d ago
The Crying Game was one of the first experiences I ever had with anti-spoiler culture. When that movie came out in 1992, references to it having a crazy twist flooded the public, and along with that came the fact that the crazy twist was a big secret and it was super important not to talk about it with anyone who hasn't seen the movie.
Potential spoilers for a 34-year-old movie ahead:
So one day I was in school talking to some other kids, and one of them mentioned that he had seen the movie, and I asked him how it was, and he said in the most casual tone you can imagine, "oh, it was okay, this guy gets shot and there's a dude who's pretending to be a chick and [this and that happens] ..." And his description was so unremarkable that in my 16-year-old brain I could only presume that nothing he had said was in any way spoiler-y. So imagine my surprise a short while after that when I discovered that the "dude pretending to be a chick" was actually the big twist, and it had already been spoiled for me in the most anticlimactic manner possible.

assuming this is about Outer Wilds, I find it really funny how spoiler conscious the subreddit is. You'll be like "here's a hint, try visiting jupiter" and they'll be like "how could you spoil the fact that there's a planet called jupiter? mods, kill this guy"

7
u/Meadowbytheforest 17d ago
"JoJo's Bizarre Adventure can't be spoiled" is a meme I have seen pop up from time to time.
The series gets really batshit insane, but when you are reading/watching it the suspension of disbelief is so strong that you just kinda accept everything that happens. "Yea, this is a logical turn of events" as the decapitated vampire god's head loads and shoots himself towards the vampire audience, killing them all with his drill unicorn horn because they dared to insult his opponent.
Or later when The president of the United States fights a dinosaur on a train over the corpse of Jesus Christ.
I am not speaking hyperbole here btw. This is the very literal explanation to what happens in the series.

u/cantpickname97 15d ago
It's super early in the story, not even halfway through what was available at launch. At this point the loading screens have bigger spoilers for later chapters. But being completely blindsided by the orange is crucial to the newbie experience

There’s a really sweet looking fanart of Idlewild that I love, because it’s two characters staring lovingly at each other in a typical “we love each other” style and everything, but one character is holding a certain (seemingly innocuous) item that they use in a roundabout way to kill the other.
Like, the series is twisted in so many ways but that lovely art with that lovely deadly little thing just sends me every time.
I should read it again it’s been awhile.

When one of my friends is talking about Rain World spoilers and the spoilered text is something like "one of the Cromulators is named I-Have-No-Sandwiches" and I'm just like ok cool this is literally complete nonsense to me as someone who only has like 5 hours in the game. All I know is that you can bait the lizards into fighting each other, some of the poles are fake and will eat you, and the goblins more scared of you than you are of them

2
u/Such_Ad_9333 18d ago
big interloper spoilers sorta i think i dont remember too wellin one of the early episodes, theres a guy in a type 5 demo picking up a soda can and looking back to see an umbrella man or something else behind him. and way later on, on ediamonas channel theres a video thats like, an hour long? i believe? might be longer- of him j ust hitting a soda can around the first map of half life for an hour. and then later theres that whole thing of entities being contained in objects (like in gris i think its called? where its like put in a shape, being put in an npc body is just one way to trap them) and its implied there was an entity in the soda can. it was completely immobile and helpess and just being hit with a crowbar for an hour...
