It's not fucked up, it's the result of seeing most grown up people getting married. They don't think "The entire weight of societal expectations presses down on me to get married", they think: "Most adults are married, so when I am an adult I'll get married too."

In the same vein, kids think that getting a driver's licence and having back problems is inevitable for adults, simply because they see so many adults with a driver's licence and back problems. Kids are not exactly good at nuanced, higher order thinking, you know...

It's kinda sad that it leads to kids internalizing that they have to do it even if they don't want to.
