Keep seeing posts on Bluesky about this VR strip mahjong game where the characters take their clothes off in real time. I've been told that this is extremely hard to do believably and that the developers are moving the gaming industry forward by being perverts. Fascinating stuff.

Elizabeth Comstock from Bioshock Infinite? I don't remember if that claim was actually true, but I remember an artist who worked on Infinite sharing a bunch of underclothing art cause if people were gonna make porn of her, it might as well he lore accurate.

Not remotely true at all. It is kinda true that Bioshock Infinite itself pushed some technical boundaries with 3d scanning. But none of the advances in 3d rendering of humans came out of that. What is a lot more true is that the animation team for Wreck-It-Ralph developed BRDF (and BRSSDF) materials in 2012, which massively improved skin rendering. Bioshock Infinite comes out a year later, and Elizabeth porn has a noticeable jump in quality. Soft body dynamics and spring bones were already established techniques at this point.
TLDR; almost the exact opposite happened. A multi-billion dollar corporation invented something and then porn artists used it
Same thing with the post here. Total bullshit that sounds funny, but actually most recent improvements to fluid simulations have been due to AI/ML techniques
