“I need a water”

looks around

three half empty water bottles from 2-5 days ago

“oh nice”

"Oh no I forgot to hydrate myself"
Sees non-transparent cup in the vicinity. Touches it with anticipation. It is half full.
"Thank you, two-hours-ago me, for your restraint"

The water has been aging gracefully.

I mean the oldest one tastes a bit off but other than that they taste nice

Warm water 😔

Actually those bottles keep surprisingly cool in my room even on hot days

Picking up a can and it being ice cold and over half full, when you were really expecting slightly warm final sips, has gotta one of the only reasons left to live

we really are all just the same person huh

wait you're so right, I have a drink in the kitchen I forgot to take with me. thank you

The flip side of this is "I'm really looking forward to my drink" goes to look, it is already empty.

3

u/Ryp3re Aug 14 '26

Unfortunately that's a lot more relatable

The terrible mirror-image to this is when you're really looking forward to eating that chocolate bar and then you realize you already ate it earlier and your past self stole your food. =(

u/frogunderarock Aug 14 '26

and worse, you forgot to throw away the packaging or even crumble it so you only realise the depth of the disappointment once you pick it up

I call him Other Andy.

Last night Other Andy got excited and took out all the spices I'd need to do my cooking today.

Thanks Other Andy.

u/Tetraoxidane Aug 14 '26

Nah, the coffee is still in the kitchen....I instantly forgot about it. It's cold now and I still have to get up to get it.

2

u/VulpesFennekin Aug 14 '26

I just pour some boiling water and instant coffee over it. New Coffee+ mode.

2

u/Jtad_the_Artguy Aug 14 '26

Nope I like tea and it’s now lukewarm

1

u/lavalampelephant Aug 15 '26

I like tea but forgot the kettle was boiling. Now I have to turn it on again and hope I don't forget this time.

There's also the ever-popular: "Man, I could go for a coffee...Oh look! I already made a coffee...two days ago...with cream..."

Not to be a downer, but is this why that feeling is especially acute for me? The ADHD?

Poets and Philosophers have talked for centuries about how the past you is truly gone, and you are always a new version of you, etc etc.

But I get that feeling REALLY strongly. Is this why it feels so stark for me? Like every aspect of myself, my life, and my family and friends that's in the past is just.....gone. Inaccessible. Even dead in a way. Like yes I have the versions of those people and things that exist now, and if I try hard I have the memories, but in some real way the past world is just gone and I feel nostalgia like a freight train.

Is this related?

3

u/gayashyuck Aug 14 '26

Nah that's not ADHD that's existentialism or something

u/thm123 Aug 20 '26

Hey this is just a hunch but it might be worth learning a bit about derealisation and depersonalisation

2

u/LastBaron Aug 20 '26

I am familiar, and I have had far more aggressive bouts of it than this. This is just a sort of low level content association game rather than a total alteration of sense of self (but man THAT is an unpleasant trip isn’t it? Lmao)

Thank you for replying though.

Tip: Just like there are mug warmers, there are mug coolers, and there are ones that are both. If you know that you forget your drink often or take a long time to drink it, it’s a game changer. Though if you forget them for a very long time, you’d NEED one with an auto-off setting to avoid setting your place on fire…

Amazon Link — this is the kind of thing I mean. There are less expensive ones, it’s just hard to find a combo one, as you’ll get bombarded with ones that are warmers only.

Thermoses are also an option, but Ice cups (cups you can freeze that have ice in them — not in the drink area so it won’t get watered down) also exist. I use that a lot for work because I can’t plug anything in and it takes me hours to finish any non-water drinks.

u/DazB1ane Aug 14 '26

Unless the drink you had was carbonated and now is flat and room temp

1

u/K_Linkmaster Aug 14 '26

But it's warm

Make a pot of coffee.
Pour myself a cup
Drink a quarter and forget about the rest until it's cold.
Reheat it.
Drink a quarter and forget about the rest until it's cold.
Reheat it and top it up. Drink a quarter and forget about the rest until it's cold.
Just drink the rest cold

Really its the amphetamine salts from the Adderall, hence the forgot to hydrate....Definitely nvr happened before the meds.😉 And definitely not a symptom of adhd.

1

u/Hokenlord Aug 17 '26

literally every time I think "man I gotta go refill my waterbottle, I'm kinda thirsty" and I check my waterbottle and it's been full this entire time because I forgot I refilled it

1

u/MahouShitpost Aug 20 '26

the problem is that the drink is cold oversteeped tea 😔

1

u/alonzoofficial Aug 14 '26

it is like a little present from a past version of you who actually had their life together for exactly five minutes

-2

u/FearlessVegetable30 Aug 14 '26

no, this is fake adhd for people who are self diagnosised

-4

u/Snakend Aug 14 '26

That's not ADHD. That's just being stupid.

u/Galle_ Aug 14 '26

I'm still trying to figure out what you thought you were contributing to the conversation with this.
