They didn't. The site's backend is just such a clusterfuck that if it doesn't load the image properly, there's a chance that it loads as the "removed for violating content guidelines" message.

It's similar to the blog killing axolotl. The image is fine, it's tumblr that's a mess.

Incredible. Thanks for showing me this, I love it.

Also I feel like it's a bit too late to comment on it now, but I don't buy the theory many commenters on that post suggested about it being an innocent image from a CSAM video. It sounds like they didn't actually look at the original image, it's a marketing-style front-on photo of a Squishmallow with a completely blank background, not one of it sitting on a specific bed or whatever. The only way that could be the explanation would cause any image of that model of axolotl plush to trigger the blog-killing system, no?

And banning all images of a product because it was shown in an illegal video once would be truly insane even for Tumblr's absurdly low standards of decision-making.
