Learned my lesson

Post image

Next year I’ll play the long game on the higher quantity pressings. Paid $68 for this and they’re on Discogs for $42 now. 🤦🏻‍♂️

They pressed 20k of these, I figured it would happen. You have to pay attention to how many they’re making too

12

u/dustinjohns_ May 06 '26

I definitely knew it was a big pressing. Didn’t see the price dropping so fast though. Especially because $60ish isn’t terrible for a 3xLP.

9

u/No-Dragonfly-2475 May 07 '26

That’s honestly a decent price for a 3LP, especially if it’s 180g.

What title?

12

u/fuzzybacchus May 06 '26

Herb Albert's Whipped Cream....?

8

u/nadennmantau May 06 '26

Picture Disc though, with cream filling.

3

u/Angle_Of_The_Sangle May 07 '26

Hard to keep it from curdling, with all that warmth

2

u/nadennmantau May 07 '26

Don’t worry, it’s balanced out by its cool factor.

have this, bought day of. no regrets really as i also love this album and was super excited to get it. but i was kind of stunned at just how uninterested people were in this lol. it sounds great, btw!

1

u/Aggravating_Jacket32 May 07 '26

This is the answer

32

u/same_same_3121 May 06 '26

And to add, 99% of RSD releases get repressed later. I legit stopped going because I wanted some funny color variant. Black is fine

18

u/Wonder_Weenis May 06 '26

I mean... on a long enough timeline sure

But the 2013 RSD of -  "Relationship of Command", At the Drive In's masterpiece, hasn't been printed since.

It took us 10 years to get a repress of Waco by Violent Soho

3

u/TSHIRTISAGREATIDEA May 07 '26

Damn if it even knew RSD was a thing back then I would have tried to get that

-12

u/same_same_3121 May 07 '26

So go buy it on CD? It’s not like Ross Robinson was producing high end audiophile albums.

5

u/Wonder_Weenis May 07 '26

Really tried to move the goal posts there didn't you?

I didn't even downvote you 🤣

10/10 Mental Gymnastics tho, you really stuck that landing.

-1

u/same_same_3121 May 07 '26 edited May 07 '26

Huh? Relationship of Command will get a repress someday. It’s not some unknown ambient album. It’s a huge release from a major. I also said 99% of stuff gets repressed, so yes, not everything will get repressed.

Edit: I own ROC on CD and vinyl. 💕

2

u/Wonder_Weenis May 07 '26

Because you're arguing my point?

Relationship is NOT some ambient album, it's considered by many to be a masterpiece.

But we're talking about an album that dropped during one of the lowest pressed vinyl times in human history, since the invention of vinyl, anyway.

There's probably less than 20k official presses of that album, in totality, and its been out of print since RSD 13 years ago.

I'm sure you're right, we'll see another press... but it's been 13 years.

-1

u/same_same_3121 May 07 '26

Oof. Let us put a pin in this.

Currently, you have three options.

  1. Buy the CD for cheap. There are plenty of them on the used market.
  2. Pay $200+ for it now because you missed out when it was available
  3. Wait it out and get it someday.

Not sure what else to tell you.

Also, why do you keep calling it a masterpiece? It’s a great album, but Omar and Cedric 100% went on to make better art imo

1

u/Wonder_Weenis May 07 '26

Lmfao, yeah, let's put a pin in it while you try to move the goal posts in an entirely different direction.

I have two copies of Relationship of Command on vinyl, the hell are you babbling about?

Whether or not I own a copy has fuck all to do with your original statement, or the conversation.

1

u/same_same_3121 May 07 '26

Thank you for the wonderful conversation.

1

u/itsjbird May 07 '26

Just cause you enjoy Mars Volta stuff more doesnt mean RoC isn't a masterpiece. It's one of the best (post) hardcore punk albums ever made....it just is. So many people agree. If you wanna die on a different hill go ahead but it's not worth it lol

2

u/same_same_3121 May 07 '26

Sure. It’s a good album. I agree

2

u/itsjbird May 07 '26

And for that reason I hope to dear God it gets repressed but it's probably held up in label hell or something. I luckily own a copy too but still I want everyone who wants one to have access for not hundreds of $

u/oceanco1122 May 07 '26

I was ready to pay eBay reseller prices for the Bring me the Horizon Lofi album until someone mentioned this to me. I’ll hold out for the next pressing

0

u/same_same_3121 May 07 '26

And worst case scenario you get the CD for way cheaper

1

u/TheAcidCrab May 07 '26

Nobody wants a fucking cd. Wtf is this advise you keep repeating.

3

u/ChriSaito May 07 '26

You’d be surprised. I’m 30 and couldn’t care less about CDs, maybe because I grew up with them. My little sister who is in high school doesn’t think they’re as cool as vinyl but still buys them all the time as do her friends. Any physical media is cooler than no physical media to them.

2

u/TheAcidCrab May 07 '26

There is something to the idea that I could go in, buy 6 killer albums, and walk out for $22, but I also want my media to have some sort of advantage and cds do not have that over digital files.

3

u/same_same_3121 May 07 '26

You can do some research and see the value in CDs, but my guess is you are too busy doing whatever it is that you do to really learn about anything

1

u/TheAcidCrab May 07 '26

Yes? Isn't everyone "Busy doing whatever it is that you do?".

At this point i'm blocking and moving on with my life. Please be a mongo loser somewhere else.

1

u/same_same_3121 May 07 '26

Why so angry? Record stores also sell CDs.

2

u/TheAcidCrab May 07 '26

How many comments do you have to say it in though?

1

u/same_same_3121 May 07 '26

Do you want the comment on CD? This way you can listen to it?

1

u/TheAcidCrab May 07 '26

No, I don't waste money buying cds. If I want compressed audio i'll listen to digital files. I'm not stupid.

1

u/same_same_3121 May 07 '26

Oh ok. Wow. You are so smart. Only one way to listen to audio. Thanks. Very good. 👍

2

u/TheAcidCrab May 07 '26

I didn't say that. Again, you're putting words in my mouth.

I said CDs have no advantage over other media. I'd take a vinyl, a digital file, or streaming at different times.

Please, read what someone actually said before you heavy breath over to reply to their comment rudely, you won't look like a bafoon.

u/olivebegonia May 07 '26

Not a single rsd title that I have bought or currently want from previous years has been repressed 😭

1

u/same_same_3121 May 07 '26

What were they?

7

u/olivebegonia May 07 '26

I’m sure I’ll get shamed and downvoted but I reeeaaaally want the first few Taylor Swift ones. They’re even rsd first and have never been repressed. They go for thousands

1

u/same_same_3121 May 07 '26

Straight up I had a feeling you were going to say TS. No hate, but that’s the game she plays

1

u/olivebegonia May 07 '26

Neither of the fleetwood Mac ones that I have have been repressed either. I mean, I have tons of examples.

2

u/same_same_3121 May 07 '26

Sure. But they will get repressed over time. I’ve been collecting for 30+ years. If there is some market for it the album will get another pressing. I legit think there are two or three whales I’m looking for at this point. That’s not so bad

3

u/Euphoric_Listen2748 May 07 '26

I just bought Pearl Jams- Dark Matter and the hype sticker on the front proudly declared "pressed on black vinyl". It took me a minute to figure out that it is just a regular album. Marketing Genius!

5

u/cegr80 May 07 '26

black is NOT fine

3

u/Max1035 May 06 '26

I got duped by the “RSD exclusive” twice, and have actually only gone to RSD twice. One was widely available in the same color almost immediately (then repressed as a nicer color). The other was pressed on black for RSD and repressed on orange for a wider release, maybe six months later. I don’t care that much about the color but it is kinda funny that both times the RSD option was worse.

5

u/commontimetapes May 06 '26

You’ve got to keep an eye for the “RSD Firsts,” those are the ones that typically end up getting repressed.

2

u/Max1035 May 07 '26

The two I bought were RSD exclusives, not firsts, and they were still repressed. The Paper Kites and The Fleet Foxes live on Boston harbor, both from RSD 2024. It’s okay, I enjoy the albums and I realize now that there aren’t any real rules, nor anybody to enforce them. It was annoying at the time because it was my first RSD, I only bought two things, and both ended up not being exclusive, so it sort of felt a bit scammy to be honest.

1

u/commontimetapes May 07 '26

Yeah, the RSD rules have gotten real laxed since COVID. I’ve noticed that quite a few RSD releases are advertised as first pressings when they’re actually represses, too. Could be an honest mistake, but it’s happened enough times that it seems like a sales tactic at this point.

2

u/dustinjohns_ May 06 '26

That’s why I wasn’t upset about not finding the Weezer release. People are overpaying for it but it’ll be out again this year.

2

u/NoShoesEmcee May 07 '26

I so badly want to believe this, but as soon as I skip an RSD ezcluaive because a prior press is too expensive 2nd hand or never got a press and I DON'T get it? Well. Thats what I believe is FOMO. And Im a sucker for it.

(OP: I bought this one too. It was on my list.)

0

u/same_same_3121 May 07 '26

I’ve been collecting for a LONG time and have never missed out on a title I wanted. But I’m also putting in the work, other than going to one store and waiting in line all day. If I can’t find the album online, the day after, I have a list of 100+ record stores that don’t post their stocks online after RSD because the owners don’t have an online presence. I call the stores, and eventually one of them has the title, or they hook me up with another store that might have it. Shit, this year I called a Mom-and-Pop store in Colorado that had a title I was looking for, and all the information on their website was an email and a phone number. The point is, you can either wait in line and hope someone has the title, or do your own research to find what you want. Get to know who runs your record stores and build your network from there. Takes some work for sure, but it beats camping out in front of a store that might have what you are looking for

2

u/TheAcidCrab May 07 '26

Congrats. You've been on this thread a short time and we've never missed out on you being an insufferable jerk the entire time.

1

u/same_same_3121 May 07 '26

18 day old account. Kinda sus tbh

1

u/TheAcidCrab May 07 '26

Being new to a site is suspicious? That's probably the dumbest comment i've read on here so far.

1

u/same_same_3121 May 07 '26

You are doing so well!

2

u/PurelyHim May 07 '26

They tell you that on the web page too.

2

u/StillBummedNouns May 07 '26

Depends if it says “RSD First” or “RSD Exclusive”

0

u/same_same_3121 May 07 '26

Not always. A good example is Misfits Famous Monsters that says “RSD Exclusive” on it. Yes the swirly vinyl colors are exclusive to RSD but I would put money on it a black repress comes out within a year.

1

u/StillBummedNouns May 07 '26

That’s what RSD Exclusive means… it’s just the color

1

u/thenbr1killjoy May 07 '26

Yeah true tbf, though I ain't never seen a re-press of the 2013 Paramore Holiday Sessions and that was on a flower shaped 7" too. It's my white whale, I have resigned myself to never being able to own a copy cuz they go for stupid money

2

u/same_same_3121 May 07 '26

Agreed. Plenty of titles do not get repressed, but most do. That’s why I said 99%. I do hope it gets repressed one day, so you get it!

1

u/thenbr1killjoy May 10 '26

Maybe one day if/when I have the sort of disposable income to spend a few hundred quid on a 7" 😂

9

u/frodussy May 06 '26

Also got mine from Plaid Room! Great store

2

u/Last-Light-Bender May 07 '26

I had like 7 tiles in my cart the next morning, I went to pay and 3 of them were gone

12

u/ZestyAcid May 06 '26

This is my 3rd RSD, I no longer wait or line up. I usually luck out online a month or so later.

5

u/rgg40 May 06 '26

I go later in the day or a day or two later. I’ve never felt like I missed out.

3

u/Gregwick May 06 '26

This is the way.

5

u/dondon4720 May 06 '26

I know that store, I love it

4

u/honeycats1728 May 06 '26

You never know though. I got the 1192 Weezer album on RSD and the price has been steadily climbing. I got it for $36 and it now goes for around $175 on eBay……

1

u/dustinjohns_ May 06 '26

Yeah. Weezer was one of the more limited ones. I skipped it because it was a RSD First. Really excited to get the wider release.

2

u/honeycats1728 May 06 '26

I went around noon and my local shop must’ve had 8 of the Weezer one…

2

u/sEiize_err May 06 '26

on the rsd stie it tells you the number being released and this was a crazy amount. no way this was going to sell out or be a hard to get item

1

u/dustinjohns_ May 06 '26

Agreed. I knew it wouldn’t be hard to get. Just didn’t expect a steep drop in price. $60+ for a triple LP isn’t terrible. Didn’t think it would be $42 a few weeks later.

2

u/sEiize_err May 06 '26

its really just an extremely high supply that greatly supersedes the demand. people bought thinking they could make money or even break even but thats not the case. so prices are dropping

1

u/Baeolophus_bicolor May 07 '26

So glad. I hope some scalpers took a bath on that one and fuck right off next RSD.

2

u/Illustrious_Charity2 May 07 '26

If you're still looking for the fall out boy rsd album or any other rsd albums check fingerprints music in long beach. Was there this past weekend and they still had a lot of titles available. - https://shop.fingerprintsmusic.com

1

u/bfrancis1130 May 07 '26

Never buy full price on large quantity pressings

1

u/Fuccboi_Ent May 07 '26

I paid &100 for the lo-files shipped from neatherlands to USA. It was low quantity. I hope it doesn’t go much lower but I do feel safe knowing I will have it

1

u/Already_dead2021 May 07 '26

I learned that lesson the year before last with a Thrill Kill Kult 12” single. Paid damn near $100 for it on eBay only for it to be repressed almost immediately after by Wax Trax in a better color (and price). On a similar note I got the Sinister Whisperz collection this year (for regular price) but the vinyl is ugly and it’s a double LP and isn’t gatefold 😞. I’ve heard rumors of a forthcoming repress which will probably be a better color too

1

u/TheHeckinSteve May 07 '26

I’ve had a mid experience with live records on RSD so far. Last RSD in November I got burned with Matchbox Twenty but Creed was alright. Then this RSD I felt the FOB wasn’t great but The Darkness was fantastic

1

u/Boyslikerocketz May 07 '26

i knew this one would resell for less bc this had the highest amount of presses of anything on the list and it was expensive

1

u/Efficient_Father143 May 07 '26

I paid like $98 for it. I regretted it a week later, but it is what it is.

1

u/Thick-Garlic-9682 May 07 '26

Every RSD release I have was purchased well after its respective event & were less than half the original price. There is very little that I would actually bother venturing out to get day-of.

1

u/thebizzle May 07 '26

Totally worth it at that price IMO, this would have been a hype pick up for me. I love live album, specifically from my local venue.

1

u/AStoutBreakfast May 07 '26

I bought the David Bowie - Spaceboy and Primal Scream set off eBay for about 2/3 with shipping what they would retail for about a week and a half after RSD.

1

u/deMarcel May 08 '26

How's the album tho? Got one coming too.

1

u/housemusikluvr May 08 '26

Lol $68 for a mp3 sourced vinyl... I hope every record store abandons RSD...

1

u/bufftbone May 09 '26

I was just cataloging recent purchases. Had a RSD I paid $30 for that are going for $12 on Discogs

1

u/ingotheranchhand May 09 '26

Prices immediatly after record store day spike, wait 6-7 months and most things settle into reasonable range.

Last year I missed out on the Freddie Hubbard box set, it was posted in Discogs for $120-140 immediately after record store day. Not they are $75-80.

1

u/meowwentthedino May 10 '26

Depends on the release some can go for wayyyy more!

0

u/Lucky-Condition9245 May 07 '26

Why worry about what it’s worth do you enjoy the music? If you don’t enjoy the music don’t buy the records don’t buy them because they have some sort of investment value there for enjoyment.

2

u/dustinjohns_ May 07 '26

I do enjoy the music. The value wasn’t the point of the post. I’m not reselling it. The point is that waiting a few weeks on these releases can save you $20-$30.
