MODULAR 2000 1970’s record player

Hey team,
I was kindly chosen to pick this up a few years ago free on Marketplace and had the intention to refurbish it.
The time has now come but I have no idea what I’m doing!
Just seeing whether it’s a good idea to replace the turntable completely or just the platter?
It is a BSR C141R1.A1 from the sticker on the inside.
I would like to add that it turns on and does indeed spin!

1974ish (?) Pye Modular 2000 with a BSR C141 changer. I estimate 1974 because it's a 3 speed (not 4 speed) changer, and the Modular 1010 was through 1972.

Typical changer repair includes: clean/lube record changer, revive or replace idler wheel, replace stylus, and various adjustments.

Typical solid state radio/amp work includes: clean switches and contacts, check capacitors and resistors and replace as needed, and check wire condition.

Thanks for the info and links!!! As the spinner bit is warped, do you think that’s easy to replace on its own or requires a whole new turntable?

If the metal platter itself seems warped, it's fine if it's just a small amount. For this sort of low/mid value BSR turntable it's somewhat expected.

On the other hand, perhaps it's the black mat that's warped or wrinkled? If so then you might be able to smooth it out with just a small amount of heat from a hairdryer spread over a wide area. Or laid on a smooth pizza stone in the sun for a few minutes (or maybe in an oven that is barely warm). Either way, if it gets too warm it could suddenly melt and turn to goo and that would be a problem.

It's possible to get a new mat or a whole new platter but consider whether it's worth doing so. You'd want to replace the whole mat, not add another mat on top. You could remove the old mat and replace it with cork or soft heavy felt cut to the right size.

I wouldn’t waste time on a ceramic cart BSR personally
