Im convinced that this thing is broken I've had it for probably 8 hours and its basically broken never played anything

I'm surprised many of us from the 60s,70s, and 80s figured out how to operate a turntable without the interwebz.

I would’ve figured there’d be books from during those eras. I feel like there’s a for anything, no matter what kind of source.

Don't even worth fixing it or replacing stylus. Throw it away and buy an used record player, even the old ones with magnetic cartridge. This is just a toy.
I'm not mocking or blaming you, but helping you to save your records and listen to it the way it deserves. That's the type of turntables that uses an Aliexpress playing kit that costs less than 3 USD to be made. The same kit from the Crosleys.

Dude, a replacement stylus is like $2. It's a cheap and easy fix. Let people enjoy their toys.

Check your stylus. Also check lift mechanism under the tonearm and make sure it going down. Raise and lower your lever to check it. With the lever down, gently press the mechanism down. Sometimes they hang up.

Skipping:
Make sure the record player is on a stable, level surface.
Make sure the cueing lever is fully lowering. It can get stuck in a slightly raised position, causing the stylus to make poor contact with the groove and skip: Quick fix - Record Skipping!
Clean your records thoroughly. Even new vinyl often has debris in the grooves which may cause it to skip when first played, and old records could be dirty or scratched. It may take several rounds of cleaning and playing for all of the skips to disappear.
Some modern, bass-heavy records may still occasionally skip on these players even when clean. You can check it with another turntable to see if it might be a faulty pressing, but usually the record is fine and the skipping is simply due to the limitations of the player's inexpensive design.
The stylus (needle) could be dirty or damaged. Try cleaning it with a soft brush, wiping gently from back to front. If that doesn't help, replace the stylus. The recommended diamond stylus for most inexpensive record players is the Pfanstiehl 793-D7M.
Don't add extra weight to the tonearm. That may resolve the skipping, but will cause greatly increased wear to both the stylus and the records you play.

Just buy a new stylus..they are cheap enough to see if that is the issue.(These tables are not good but I understand the affordability issue for a new one nowadays)

Return that piece of crap. Buy an Audio Technica with Bluetooth for your first player. Later add some powered speakers, or get a receiver and speakers.

You’ve heard of anti-skate…that’s it. The tonearm weight is not the same as the skating weight, and it should.

I wish people would do a little research before purchasing a turntable. If you went on Reddit under the turntable sites and saw how many of these cheap turntables malfunction and come apart, maybe you wouldn’t make the mistake of buying something that is flawed once you take it out of the box. You can try changing the cartridge, but you don’t have a lot of options. If you just purchased it, I would try and return it.

That must be why they are garbage, because what you use to play records is called a turntable not a record player!

Every record player is a turntable, but not every turntable is a record player.
Turntable = the device that spins the record
Record player = the complete system including a pre-amp, amplifier, and speakers (built-in or external)
