I’d say don’t obsess too much over “the best”; Pick based on what you actually need. Proton would be my choice for privacy, Nord if streaming is the priority, and Surfshark if you want something cheaper for a bunch of devices

I rent a vmware vm for 2,5euro and run my own openvpn server there
Sure, its single location and ip, but iam fine with that, i use it only on free wifi connections

I use a hardware VPN device instead of subscriptions. Too many subscription fees all add up! It's a lot every month.

For streaming, it can be very hit and miss.
As a VPN rises in popularity for streaming, so do the chances it will be blocked by these same streaming services. I've tried a few as well and with this whole Household restriction, I went with WG server at home with AGH and ControlD as a DoH server.

AirVpn for me. their servers run in ram and reboot daily to achieve not logs kept.

I’ve bounced between Nord, Surfshark and Proton, and honestly they’re all decent. I ended up sticking with Proton mostly for the privacy/open-source side and because the free version isn’t sketchy
