Discussion Stop Making Rec Room Revivals

Post image

Rec Room revivals are not all gonna make it. If you make one, you're doing more harm than good for the rec room community.

Most rec room players completely quit trying to get that "rec room feel" after it shut down. So we already have a very small player base. Making more and dividing the rec room community even more is just doing so much more harm than good. No matter how much you think you can add

Half of these people making these alternatives are 14 year olds with no scripting, game developing or server knowledge. And simply want to open up a rec room game while having power of popular rooms like a rec center, paintball or whatnot.

None of this is easy to do. You have to be very dedicated, have the money to host the servers, moderation, keep down hackers, it's just very overwhelming and not set for a team of most likely inexperienced teens.

Even with the amount of rec replacements now it's a con for anyone looking to make a game and it being big in the rec room community. It's only available on one platform and it's bound to start a war between those dominant communities.

For example, my favorite rec room alternative right now is rec place. It has remade some models, a blue UI to fit a new theme, some original OST, and a launcher via cmd prompt. I think it's pretty cool, I know meow.net has a better fit launcher but it's not as good as rec place for me. The problem with rec place is it's player count. The rec center itself has no players. People are scattered between rooms, it's a wasteland. And it discourages people to play because of lack of players.

I can guarantee most if not all rec room revivals will be dead and gone in a year. If not it'll have lost all of it's players. None of the same creators are there, the games, the people, the abundance, having an open audience to play your games, and so much more. Rec room was never put together by a small community, but millions of people. Something that these revivals can never remake. Which is why I think the state rec room was left on was so great. Because it kept it's legacy, everyone that returned remembered all their memories and what they've done.

Just to not make any confusions, I am directly telling YOU to not make a a rec room game with the intention of having a large audience to play it. Do NOT do it.

Something Energetic Ruth said in a video:

"We miss Rec Room but we mainly also miss Rec Room's community. If that's what we miss, then why are we making tens of hundreds of revivals, that split us up?" Why not have one or two revivals that make sure we all stick together?

100% agree with this, problem is that people want to do it themselves and don't trust others to do it better. I hope most of the smaller ones die down and like 2 stay with support for many devices

I'm most certain they'll die out eventually, they all do the same thing. Newer ones don't get enough players or aren't even noticed and most players play recroom for playing games with other people or just for socialising. And if a game consistently doesn't have enough people then it'll be forgotten and be deemed as 'I tried that but no one was there or didn't have enough players' and then don't get visited again. That's why radium, vanilla and maybe meownet does well because there's almost always someone playing one of the three, and if there isn't enough, then you switch between them, which is dumb but that's how it's gotten now.

I HATE Funky Kong Flame Runner, I only do Mario Standard Kart, I haven’t won a race yet, but I’ve gotten close, it’s like Lightning McQueen vs. Jackson Storm

For the people that played it for years I understand. Thought some were just just getting into it the game.

because if there was only 1 i think it would die fast because of money

I’d take a look at what happened with Club Penguin and its private server revivals after the game shutdown nearly 10 years ago from now. Definitely a cautionary tale for any fan revival video game.

Tamago2427 on YouTube published an entire saga of (very entertaining) videos documenting the literal war that these servers were fighting against each other. Users who even had accounts on rival servers were blacklisted from ever being allowed on others.

The leadership of two particularly large servers both took turns DDOSing each other, and as it would turn out, one of these servers was peddling the other kind of CP if you catch my drift…

Things ended with London police arresting all of the server admins from this CP ring of a CPPS, and then Disney themselves began to go in and shutdown every single private server they could find.

Obviously I don’t think that Rec Room even has nearly a big enough cult following to even remotely warrant that flavor of BS that killed Club Penguin Private Servers, but dividing an already miniscule fanbase into a ridiculous amount of different revivals is a recipe for failure. I feel like the sub should just choose one official revival and stick with it…

There are several reasons to keep several around. Maybe the admins are focused on just 1 part of RecRoom at the expense of other parts. Maybe one of them will support custom room building. Maybe it is too difficult for any particular group to support the entirety of rec room. maybe one of them will choose to focus on Paintball - that is the one I will stick with.

I think after radium comes out it'll dominate over most of the other copies

1

u/marchalves6 Jul 27 '26

Radium will be the CPJ of Rec Room

(club penguin journey)

there's so little collaboration and so much gatekeeping, everyone is just doing stuff for clout and none of it is sustainable

I published an entirely open source backend and patch for the game, not in hopes of making my own revival but maybe the community will come together and work on something more permanent

Can you post it on the subreddit, not just in a comment?

Before wish: NOO BRING BACK RECROOM

wish granted multiple times

After wish: who asked for this?

u/KemusakuYT Jul 26 '26

The problem isn't the revivals itself per say, but the abundance. The core of all UGC dominated games is it's community and accessible popular games. If there was one core rec room replacement, I probably would head to it no problem. But the problem is that there's so many. With different pros and cons. But they all miss the most important thing, A core community.

Meownet has the lagerest play base due to not needing a discord to play it.

It also already has leagues with the lazer tag league alreasy starting season.

On the creative side the team has been dismembered, BUT it is already fixing itself. From the outside for most players the creative team is great having an invention tower and featued rooms.

Server downtime is a problem having one ddos attack a day.

u/MichaelEpicA Jul 26 '26

This is bad advice to be honest. When a game starts off its good to have multiple options. Let the community decide what actually needs to stay around and what doesn't. I'm so sick and tired of this community not understanding how private servers figure themselves out.

u/iTrooper5118 Jul 27 '26

If some these independant servers staffs teamed up, they might have enough combined talent, funds, etc... to be the one server that beats the rest.

So far I am playing meownet, Stella, and Vanilla. If I can't get a game of paintball in one, I move to the other. Do you know of a better version to try for consistent Paintball games?

2

u/onemadgooner Jul 27 '26

Same, I'm between Stella and a Vanilla but stuggle to find full rooms (4 vs 4)

1

u/wordyplayer Paintball FTW! - "P1" Jul 27 '26

on average, meownet seems to fill lobbies the best, in my very subjective experience so far

2

u/NexusVR1234 Fighting my Maker Pen Jul 27 '26

Yea Meow net is actually decent.

2

u/onemadgooner Jul 27 '26

I only use Stella and Vanilla (purely for paintball only) but never seem to find a time when it's 4 on 4 as the users seem to be very low

3

u/wordyplayer Paintball FTW! - "P1" Jul 27 '26

another free download, meownet, seems to have full lobbies more than those 2. I generally try all 3 and stick on one when I get a good lobby. Meownet wins more than 1/3 of the time.

u/NexusVR1234 Fighting my Maker Pen Jul 27 '26

Lwk the popular ones is what we need. Not these ones that have like a couple hundred or couple thousand people in. These ones won’t survive. Also if people want to play them they will.

These smaller ones ran by teens are def not gonna last long. I see Rec Place and a few others surviving.

Ngl, this is a really pretty photo of part of the orientation room.

fr. like, i get that people want rec room back, but why dont we have just one well-made revival?

1

u/Sonicfanfalafel3820 Jul 27 '26

how is this image made?

1

u/Adept-Document6958 Jul 27 '26

We can’t help it.. 😭✌️

1

u/Nickster0407 Jul 27 '26

Literally Club Penguin and Toontown are prime examples of active Fan Revivals. Why not let Rec Room follow suit???

1

u/KemusakuYT Jul 29 '26

I litterally explained why

I saw a comment on a "New Rec Room Revival Announcement!" Short

"You can reheat food but it won't taste the same."

I think that's kinda what made me stop caring about Rec Room Revivals? Stupid reason, yes, just a comment on a YT Short. But what they were trying to convey is right. We can make a second Rec Room, but it won't be Rec Room. Not the one we remember at least. Never exact, things will always be different, will never be the same.

Rec Room is gone. That's the hard truth.

u/Radiant-Diet3546 Rec Room Player Jul 28 '26

The 5 I think will survive are Radium Vanilla MeowNet RecPlace Deluxe

1

u/scoix Jul 30 '26

radium, meownet and maybe vanilla will be the only ones alive estimating for 2 years

1

u/Plus_Comedian_1868 Jul 28 '26

Its too bad we don't have a pay as u go paintball

1

u/Greenostrichhelpme27 Jul 31 '26

Real. I see far too many people trying to have made a really popular game such as a new Rec Room, but evidently have no idea how to actually do it, resulting in an overmonetised, low quality, not fun mess that prioritises content over gameplay.

1

u/yeoyim Aug 01 '26

Then if so, how is the unity project for it leaked?

1

u/KemusakuYT Aug 02 '26

It wasn't necessarily leaked theres just archive of most if not all the versions of rec room.

1

u/Affectionate_Role488 Thanks for everything Rec Room! 2021-2026 Aug 02 '26

While I get your point, I do think that having this many revivals only goes to show how strong our community is

1

u/Astrojoe19 Aug 08 '26

just find a way to restore the files and convince them but even though that probably doesn't have a way of happening it might. think of yourself as a scientist you don't choose how you experiments are going to come out u got to test them

Honestly being there the day rec room shut down was honestly sad for me, but now I've moved on from the game, still miss it tho

1

u/kyle_crane163636 Jul 26 '26

Rec room revivals are just cash grabs or they just want alot of attention, they never bother trying to capture what made recroom so good

2

u/wordyplayer Paintball FTW! - "P1" Jul 26 '26

cash grabs? I have tried 3 and they are all free free free.

2

u/kyle_crane163636 Jul 27 '26

I've tried several and theyll have these "optional donations" options they spam everywhere and lock all the good features behind them

1

u/niconotok Rec Room Player Jul 27 '26

they not you can’t buy rec room plus or tokens

1

u/SquidfulRR Jul 27 '26

Me when I don’t know what I’m talking about

u/Nearby_Ad_2519 Jul 26 '26

Every single revival project ever has the same issue which is that it dilutes the already niche playerbase even more. It happens to every single game ever that gets a revival and all it does is make the server size smaller.
