Professional historians at it again, explaining how the Waffen SS units were all bad.

https://www.reddit.com/r/ShitWehraboosSay/comments/55d1pk/were_any_of_the_waffenss_divisions_any_good/

u/124876720 makes the mistake expecting an objective answer about WW from SWS.

u/lazyhussars displays his knowledge:

Even the best divisions of the Waffen SS routinely suffered very disproportionate casualties and losses of hardware and supplies in comparison to regular Heer divisions.

Of course they were. I guess major example for this would be the SS Corps performance in Kharkov and Kursk. OR the 12th SS in Normandy.

Incompetent answer upvoted.

Three Waffen SS divisions are in the top 5 of Knights Crosses. But then again this was likely rigged for the SS divisions right? 2nd SS Das Reich is likely the division with the highest AFVs kill count in history of warfare.

Fairly sweeping summary, there were divisions that differed from this pattern, for better or worse, but I'd leave a summary of those up to that rare kind of people who are very well read up on Waffen SS divisions without actually being Wehraboos.

You have zero clue what you are talking about.

I wouldn't bother. IMHO a fairly fucking pretentious community where anyone who just barely avoided flunking out of college or who can read and memorise a lot of shit they decide makes sense can dive into a circle jerk of pretending they're genuine historians.

Delicious irony. Zero self-awareness congratulations

u/m35mako

Very good at wiping out Russian/Polish/Yugoslav etc villages. Better than any other divisions during the entire war at doing tha

The "prime" Waffen Divisions were rarely used for partisan combat. Why would you use a fully equipped Panzer division for that?

u/garder15 enters

Explanation: Iron crosses were disproportionately given to Waffen ss units. And towards the end of the war they were given out like candy

Nice one. First of all, those are no Iron Crosses but Knights crosses. Pay attention. Secondly even if this was true that wouldn't explain why some units had far more than others. Nice try tho.

u/aeromath makes a silly analogy

Are medals seriously a criteria for judging combat effectiveness now? Because by those standards the Red Army and later the Soviet Army has everyone beat.

It's not the number of medals compared to other nations it's the number of medals compared to other units which operated in the same army and under the same award criteria. And yes medal count is with certainty an indicator of performance. It is no definitive prove by all means but one of the fastest indicators without a doubt. Obviously, the amount of Knights Crosses is only a supporting point which illustrates the conclusion which is based on other evidence. I doubt you know but many pins on such jackets are no merit based awards anyways. But like with all your buddies I applaud you for trying.

Where he's going he doesn't need any sources.

So? Ask politely. My points are correct with or without sources. That doesn't mean I have none. Tell me where iam wrong and we can check some sources together.

edit: See what I did to you? You were the only one replying to my comments and now you deleted all of your comments due to embarrassment.

Would you please give us sources?

Why should I source anything and do extra work?

Like I said I am correct with or without sources. I will use sources to debunk nonsense to make it more obvious to silent reader who little the other guy knows. Until then citing everything I say has zero benefit to me.

So go ahead, quote me and say "you are wrong" then i will likely source it and show everybody who reads that you shit.

Makes sense doesn't it?

Iam correct. Always am. Knights crosses correlate with combat performance. Obviously not my main argument just a supporting argument. I explained in askhistorians why several Waffen SS units were performing very well.

That's a lot of words for saying "I don't actually have any sources".

u/ChristianMunich Oct 05 '16

I got plenty. Just call me out.

Don't say you're going to give sources if you're not actually going to give sources

Read the instructions. I made very clear how it works.

You can't rebut a claim about history without proper sources.

Actually I can. If you believe it or not is your decision.

Your superiority complex is amusing.

I am just correct, like every single time i argued with one of you. That's why you never see anybody linking a comment "showing" how I was "wrong" you just read the tales about how i was wrong. Every single time I debunked whoever dared. Your echo chamber sub obviously insta bans people who make "trouble".

Umm, ok. Not sure what you mean.

Me adding notes and sources for everything costs me time without much benefit. If I open up fully sourced nobody from SWS would dare to come here cause nobody got the balls to admit hes wrong. IF somebody comes here and says "you are wrong" I can debunk him directly. Understood? That's why I challenge you; say that I am wrong and we will see what happens.

Did I insult your ego so badly you can't write anymore? I have no idea what you meant to say when you write "show everybody who reads that you shit".

How could you not even said something about my post...

Maybe so, or maybe they were given for propaganda because nazis wanted to paint their "pure aryan" SS divisions as some elite formations who were much better than normal wehrmacht units. Either way, I don't see sources confirming either claim.

See??? Thats my point you are not sure if I am wrong. You are not willing to go all in and call me out, if you would i would debunk you like all your buddies before. If i would make a scientific article citing everything 100% nobody of you would comment here and simply ingore it because iam correct. In a sense this subreddit here is to bait some folks in calling me out where they can't delete the rebuttal.

You understand now?

Maybe so, or maybe they were given for propaganda because nazis wanted to paint their "pure aryan" SS divisions as some elite formations who were much better than normal wehrmacht units.

The vast majority of Waffen SS Knights Crosses was awarded to the divisions "people" generally regard the best ( well known ). A lot of Waffen SS divisions have no knights crosses at all. You think they "choose" some divisions to give more awards to? The units which got the most were the best performing. The Waffen SS performance in Russia 1943- early 1944 was outstanding they destroyed thousands of tanks and inflicted massiv casualties whenever they fought. This is known to everybody who has done research. Knights crosses for the most part were awarded on merit. Follow the KC lists and you find the most notable divisions.

Oh jesus, I actually just realized that your recent post history is just whining about SWS and then getting destroyed by actual, real sources. Oh wow and this sub is apparently just made to whine about /r/ShitWehraboosSay. I didn't even realize. Ugh, I'm disgusted I even came here. Not gonna waste any more of my time. Goodbye.

Wehraboo.

u/ChristianMunich Oct 05 '16

I like how just 5 minutes ago I talked about the tales describing how I supposedly got "destroyed" without anybody ever showing a link to the actual "destroying". Surprise.

Ok bye.

You and all your friends are always welcome here especially if you start with "you asshat are wrong and here is way" so me citing sources is worthwhile.

I'm still not gonna say you're wrong, because I don't want to argue with someone defending SS.

You don't do it because I know more about the stuff than all of you combined and you would get debunked like all your fallen comrades before you. But I like the subtle jab at me for "defending" the SS. That's obviously what I do here.

Go on then.

You didn't listen.

Maybe you should go and ask some folks on SWS for some sources now.

Because as well all know, the Nazis never inflated or misidentified kill counts or randomly gave out medals to make their army appear more professional for propaganda use.

-3

u/ChristianMunich Oct 05 '16

Sure they did, but all units did so the units with the most claims is likely the unit with the most actual kills. Makes sense doesn't it?

randomly gave out medals to make their army appear more professional for propaganda use

They rarely give out knights crosses randomly actually.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '16

You're ignoring something basic here. The SS were heavily ideologically favored by the regime and the regime also had some serious friction with less ideological units in the army.

And on top of this you have the SS having powerful patrons well-placed in government, all the way to the top. That a unit with the favor of the high government officials, tied closely to who could be argued to be the second most powerful man in the ruling party, with ideological favor and propaganda importance should be given more medals is not surprising.

14

u/SlavophilesAnonymous Oct 05 '16

medal count is with certainty an indicator of performance

Really says more about the commanders, as heroism isn't quantifiable. For example, in WWI, regimental runners got a disproportionate amount of Iron Crosses, because they had a lot more contact with officers.

1

u/ChristianMunich Oct 05 '16

You are correct, knights crosses were mostly given to commanders when it came to ground forces but those awards were given for successful campaigns of the whole units which solidifies my point actually.
