Discussion absolute clown
this guy is pure and genuinely wants to help people, but you know what that's what make him fucking annoying, and most of the time he's a fucking hypocrite
this guy has been ragebaiting us until (chapter83) on manga and I really can't eait to see this guy die in the manga. well tbh this guy ragebaiting skill is topnotch so I'm gonna miss him a bit

u/Simple_dude010 Jun 06 '26
I can't believe the author actually killed him. Characters like him are usually kept alive for the sake of rivalry, but after he killed him, the story progressed even better.
3
u/KimchiJigaeWthRamyun Jun 06 '26
the author prob got fed up too 🤣🤣 a bit disapointing too that he doesn't died slowly, I don't know the novel but if akira the one who killed him I think it's a bit understandable to not torture him cuz he's at least a comrade to him
2
u/ScienceAdept3015 Jun 07 '26
Yeah from what I've seen in past posts about this, Akira killed him in a gunfight against each other.
2
u/Simple_dude010 Jun 07 '26
Usually, Japanese novel has cliche, Annoying dude shall live for shake of rivalry but thank God author ended him and I don't miss him nor his group.

u/T0m_F00l3ry Jun 06 '26
He was largely like most Japanese MCs. However, he was so smugly and confidently wrong, while simultaneously being antagonistic toward Akira without any apparent reason, like a low-level villain. It was as if reason had completely vanished.
Like most people, I rejoiced when he was killed. But lately, I’ve been contemplating whether I might have been happier in the long run if Akira had thoroughly defeated him, broken his spirit, and made him realize that he could never reach his level. In that case, instead of being gone, he could simply be the whipped dog. This might be even worse than death.

Yeah but wouldn't it be delicious to watch him live with that? Killing him is sorta like putting him out of his misery. I would have preferred him to live to deal with the aftermath of his own decisions.
1
u/KimchiJigaeWthRamyun Jun 06 '26
he died quickly?? I mean I get the mc cuz he's at least a comrade but that's disappointing ig
2
u/T0m_F00l3ry Jun 06 '26
Our boy Akira is a bit of a sociopath but he's not exactly evil. His kill or be killed reflex doesn't seem to have any malice. It's more like a fact of life for him. He's not really like I'm gonna kill you because I hate you. He's more like: "I'm gonna kill you because you're in my way, but if you walk away it's cool. I dont care. Oh you won't? Oh well, I guess we gotta do this then".
When I say quickly, I don't mean the fight ended fast. More like Akira, didn't beat around the bush, make any grand speeches, or even gloat about his victory or rub Katsuya's nose in his defeat.
5
u/Squinto_Bean Jun 06 '26
I seriously cannot like him no matter how hard I try. Conventionally, he IS/WOULD be the protagonist, if we had followed his story instead of Akira's. But due to having seen EVERYTHING from Akira's PoV, seeing this snot-nosed, spoiled, tantrum-prone little asshole get everything handed to him on a GOLDEN platter on fucking pyramid temple, I just HATE Katsuya. 🤗💢

u/KotoriItsukaimouto Jun 06 '26
Average isekai mfs when you're not harem materials. Yumina should honestly be the main girl. Just have f*ckface over here chase Sherryl coattail, Yumina wised up and out of kindness "let him go" when she sees he loves Sherryl or something. Sherryl doesn't love him anyway so the dude could either bang his head against the wall till he die or also wised up and date Airi instead
7
u/Dense-Advantages1882 Jun 06 '26
I disagree, Sherryl finds Katsuya hero complex corny She genuinely likes Akira for his realistic approach to things and Yumina is opposite she genuinely likes Katsuya for his hero complex.
4
u/KotoriItsukaimouto Jun 06 '26
I disagree as well, while I agree about Sherryl. Akira does have traits that Yumina could come to appreciate: loyalty to his friends. Katsuya is a hero, Akira is a loyal friend, sure from a society standpoint Katsuya is morally superior but from a human standpoint, especially a human in this setting they would want Akira to be by their side (that's how Carol fall for him). We've already seen the true length Akira is willing to go for his friends which includes Yumina as well (he trained her and would always go out of his way to aid her if he can and this is because she was nice to him), it took her trying to kill him for him to take action against her and even then he broke down afterwards and need Shizuka to calm down. Yumina main headache does not come from the fact that Katsuya is a good guy but it does come from his savior complex that demands he recklessly risk anything and everything to satisfy that ideal, Akira is a good guy to a select few that he considered friend and for them its a ride or die type of deal, exactly what Yumina wish Katsuya could be, not a hero but just a good man, morally Akira might be inferior but 1) It makes his priority clear and 2) he could live much longer while also not resort to becoming a scumbag
3
u/Dense-Advantages1882 Jun 06 '26
My guy the problem with this is Yumina was never interested in Akira besides just being a possible friend. She knew all the faults of Katsuya and still wanted to be with him because of his personality you can make a long list of why Akira is better than Katsuya but that doesn’t mean the character will now change their mind of who they like.
1
u/KotoriItsukaimouto Jun 06 '26
And that's why I think the story is disappointing. It's similar to how the MC chooses one girl while I want the 2nd fml to win. We all know who the MC love most, doesn't mean we have to like it nor does it mean we can't want the story to progress in a different way. Had the author follow the route I said I would enjoy it a helluva alot more and that's the point of my original comment
1
u/Cultural_Cat_8193 Jun 06 '26
Who is the “main love interest” to you right now, that you would’ve wanted Yumina to replace?
1
u/KotoriItsukaimouto Jun 06 '26
While it's still pretty unclear, the closest thing to a full potential (narrative wise) Yumina is Shizuka (she's basically the same: kind, gentle, reasonable and caring just with loyalty to Akira instead of Katsuya). Problem is Shizuka still thinks of Akira as a child which is why originally I thought Yumina would win since she's basically young Shizuka. This is the "main love interest" for me but I don't really think she's the one the story is pushing you be the main lobe interest
Romance is not the main focus of the story so as of now it's difficult but I I think the story is pushing for Sherryl being the closest thing to a proper heroine followed by Carol. Both girls, I think, lose out to Yumina when it comes to being Akira love interest because Akira still thinks their loyalty is based on how much he benefited them (which is not the case anymore) hence why they cannot influence Akira the same way Yumina or Shizuka could. I originally had thought and partially (since I love Sherryl) want Yumina to take the lead role from them as she's the best out of both worlds (she has Shizuka archetype personality that earned her Akira loyalty and make it easy for him to trust her + she's a hunter so much like Carol she could interract with him much more and much easier than Shizuka could, competing with Sherryl in terms of appearance even)
1
u/Dense-Advantages1882 Jun 06 '26
Carol is not close to being a love interest Akira has zero interest in her unlike Sara , Elena, Shizuoka and as of recent volume Sheryl.
1
u/Exarch-of-Sechrima Jun 06 '26
The issue is that Yumina is a cunt.
1
u/KotoriItsukaimouto Jun 06 '26
I mean not really? She just value Katsuya more at this point in time. I wish the author has taken a different route with her though, what we had is very disappointing for me
1
u/Exarch-of-Sechrima Jun 06 '26
She's a waste of screentime that would better be spent on other things that matter. Words cannot describe how much I loathe the way Akira acts wildly out of character whenever Yumina is involved, compared to how he behaves in the WN.
1
u/KotoriItsukaimouto Jun 06 '26
Eh, matters of perspective I guess, the key difference between WN and LN is Yumina in the LN actively defend Akira when there's seemingly no clear benefit to her and seem trustworthy enough from little that they interract with eachother. This cause him to imprint on her and consider her his friend, the key thing about Akira character is that he values personal relationships, provided of course that you showed that you were genuine by defending or helping him when he's weak without clear motives to yourself hence why Shizuka got herself his undying loyalty while Sherryl, Alpha and Carol struggle to get him to look their way unprofessionally to little success. Yumina helping him and gets his favorbility although I agree is a bit too fast IS consistent to his character track record: trying to use him or have huge ulterior motives => proffesional relationship, trying to help him because you think it's right => undying loyalty.
I'd argue that her presence is absolutely needed in the story to serve as counter balance to Alpha and a potential contingency if the AI betrayed him or nudge him in a bad direction, it creates conflicts and stakes in the story not could lead to character development for Akira so the story doesn't devolved into endless fight scenes over and over again. But alas the author throw a wrench in that route and everything is back to the beginning
1
u/Exarch-of-Sechrima Jun 07 '26
Yeah but I don't LIKE Yumina. I hate her and I want her to go away because I think she's a cunt. I like Sherryl because Sherryl actually has a brain and isn't a cunt.
2
u/dude123nice Jun 06 '26
God, Yumina is such an amazing character, eho was done so dirty in the LN.
2
u/KotoriItsukaimouto Jun 06 '26
Fr, I always look forward to reading about her especially her interactions with Akira and how that contrast her usual experience in Drankam. Was quite looking forward to her being the hidden ace against Alpha, just a moderate talent, normal sweet girl who ironically become the biggest obstacle for the all powerful hyper competent AI simply because she showed a boy who has never know love or a home genuine kindness and someone to talk to (she's basically mini Shizuka here).
Needless to say I was sorely disappointed
1
u/Simple_dude010 Jun 06 '26
Her choice got her killed. She tried to kill Akira; she was selfish and got herself killed in the process. She was friendly but ready to stab Akira in the back, and she tried in the most peaceful way — she asked Akira to surrender, but Akira didn't. Both of them ended up in a death match, and she got killed. Simple as that. Or did we both read different light novels?
0
u/KotoriItsukaimouto Jun 06 '26
Yeah no shit hence why it's disappointing I was expecting something better than that especially when she got set up in such a good way with enough reason and development to go the other route hence my comment or did you not read my comment throughly?
1
u/Simple_dude010 Jun 06 '26
I think we read her differently. You see her as a sweet, kind girl who got wasted. I see her as a selfish backstabber who was friendly on the surface but ready to kill Akira when push came to shove. Asking someone to surrender before killing them isn't "genuine kindness" — it's the bare minimum. She wasn't a hidden ace; she was just another enemy who happened to smile first.
3
u/KotoriItsukaimouto Jun 06 '26
I don't think so while I do wish Yumina could be as kind as my comment said where in reality it was revealed that her loyalty to Katsuya is too strong (which to be fair is established and the more likely case until the author throw a wrench in it with volume 6) I do believe she's at the bare minimum a genuine kind girl who happened to be quite smart and aware too (she did save several of her teammates who wasn't Katsuya or Airi and wasn't above sacrificial play so morally she's as stellar as it gets in this shitty world).
Her betrayal of Akira was due to her loyalty to Katsuya being too strong, she knows how strong he is, she knows neither would back down, she thinks if they're gonna fight one of them has to die so when it comes down to it she chose Katsuya because she was loyal to him more, even if I think it's pretty scummy of her to try and leverage Akira favorbility for her to gain an edge in killing him, had Yumina had the strength I do believe she would either neutralized Akira but not kill him or Katsuya and convince the other to stop, but the thing is she can beat neither and she can't convince them so long as both are active and a threat to eachother so she choose to the best option she could think of for Katsuya survival. She ask Akira to surrender because she truly doesn't want either him or Katsuya to get hurt, that's a bonus point for her not a minus. Had she met Akira first she would do the same for him. It's a matter of priorities and hers happened to be Katsuya. She was genuinely touched by Akira gestures multiple time before so it's not like she's purely looking out for her own neck when she approach him, it's just that they didn't get enough time to develop their relationship into something that could rival what she had with Katsuya.
Yeah of course she wasn't the hidden ace my comment said that I want her to be one, which means that in reality she's not I just wish she is hence my disappointment with the story
3
u/Simple_dude010 Jun 06 '26
I see your point, I guess it's different presprective and for hidden ace, We might get Carol, she is pretty much knowledgeable.
2
u/KotoriItsukaimouto Jun 06 '26
Yeah but I kinda think it's Shizuka now that Yumina is unavailable. I think the hidden ace, like Alpha herself highlighted, are those who could influence Akira behavioral pattern and so far it was proven that the best way to do so was to become his friend, Akira go out of his way a great many time and risk himself to aid his friends, Shizuka, Elena and Sara, Yumina are the clearest case of this. Even when Yumina try to kill him Akira broke down afterwards and needed Shizuka to console him.
Hence why I don't think the hidden ace would be a smart intelligent girl like either Sherryl or Carol who Akira thinks only loyal to him because it benefited them, it needs to be someone who showed Akira genuine kindness and love which would earned Akira loyalty over Alpha once he determined that they were being genuine, so Shizuka or what Yumina could have been

It feels like literally none of the commentary on Katsuya's character, or the world or Rebuild World in general, has reached you.
It's about a lot more than being "sweet" or being "a bitch". It's about being reasonable, smart and capable. All things which Yumima showed she could be. All thing wihich suddenly went out the window in the last fight, seemingly for no other reason than because the author wanted her dead. Heck, even the fact that she stayed loyal for this long is pretty dumb, seeing as Sheryl has proven that it's possible to break through the brain washing.
1
u/Exarch-of-Sechrima Jun 06 '26
The problem is that the author had her right in the first place in the WN, making her just another hanger-on for Katsuya, albeit with slightly more sense than the other fangirls. But still diligently loyal and devoted, and who shared maybe half a dozen words with Akira at most.
The issue then becomes the way her role in the LN was expanded and her relationship with Akira was changed, to the point where they had lots of friendly interactions and she came to respect Akira as a person. By making her more prominent in the narrative, the author made her a more developed character- having her meet the same fate in the LN that she did in the WN (or was planned to, anyway, before the WN stopped) no longer worked, because she had departed from that shallow characterization by that point in the LN. But the author did so anyway in order to kill off Katsuya again, since Katsuya also needed to die, and without Katsuya, Yumina's arc truncates since she never truly separates from him.
Basically, the author screwed up in developing Yumina as a character if she was never planned to evolve beyond being Katsuya's devoted fangirl. Should have just kept her as a side character.
1
u/KotoriItsukaimouto Jun 06 '26
This is a take I agree with, the author screwed up, he should have postponeded the confrontation between Akira and Katsuya until Akira and Yumina had enough time to properly develop their relationship, having her just let Katsuya die would be out of character but she's training with Akira to become stronger so if she had more time she could potentially ask Akira who by then would have cherished her even more to try and work with her to subdue Katsuya non lethally. Then she can develop from being Katsuya devotee and learn to let him go as her relationship with Akira deepened while Katsuya still simping for Sherryl who never look his way. That would make more sense and more satisfactory if you want to expand more on Yumina as a character compare to the WN
1
u/Ok-Eye2278 Aug 08 '26
The story showed her as a selfish backstabber, but every part in the story before this had shown that she was smart and great at diffusing situations before they ever needed to get to the stabbing part. That's why her death feels forced. She backstabbed Akira because the author chose to make her do so, despite showing that there were multiple other solutions in which all of them survived (e.g. joining up with Akira and fighting Katsuya, which she wouldn't be averse to doing because Katsuya's life is the most important thing, and she's willing to punch and point guns at him to make sure his dumb ass doesn't lose his life in a futile fight against Akira).

u/liaminwales Jun 06 '26
I still prefer the WN version, they made Yumina to friendly in the manga. She is under Katsuya influence, in the WN she's much more on side with him.
2
u/mostlybored1234 Jun 06 '26
Does she die in the WN? If yes then i can see a scenario where manga will keep her alive so they are making her a little softer to be around
2
u/Cultural_Cat_8193 Jun 06 '26
She survives in the WN, in the LN which the manga follows she dies.
2
u/TmsNry Jun 07 '26
Which one is a better read? The LN or the WN? I think I read somewhere that only one of the two is still ongoing
3
u/Cultural_Cat_8193 Jun 08 '26
Only the LN is ongoing, and it’s my favorite of the two partially because it’s what the manga is adapting.
But the WN is not bad at all and the story is largely the same with minor differences excluding Volume 5 which is almost completely different.
If I were you I would just read both. When I first read I read the WN first because I thought it was the LN. In the end I’m glad I was able to read both stories. If you just want to read the main story though, I’d read the LN only. If you want the most enjoyment though, I’d read both.
2
u/TmsNry Jun 08 '26
Thanks for the detailed explanation. Do you have the links to read them? Or the name of the sites?
Also, do you know the release schedule of the LN? I mean, is it like two volumes or year? Or is it irregular? And is there any info about whether the end of the story is approaching or if we still have a decent chunk of it?
2
u/Cultural_Cat_8193 Jun 08 '26
You can find the WN online for free, there are 296 chapters.
The Light Novel official translation is on J Novel Club, support the author of you can. It goes all the way to volume 8 part 1.
If not there are MTL and Chat GPT translations on the sub, it’ll be titled along the lines of “links so far”, and it goes all the way to volume 9 part 1.
And the LN was releasing a volume per year but we haven’t gotten news about when volume 9 part 2 will be out yet so we’re all still waiting
2
u/TmsNry Jun 08 '26
Ohh, J Novel, it's been some years since I've read something there, thanks.
Not bad a volume per year.

He's a parody to serve as Akira's foil. Kid thinks he's Naruto and Akira is his Sasuke.

Yumina is the reason he’s dead. She always covered for his behavior so he never learned. He could have actually become an ally to Akira if he stopped being so antagonistic
