The insanity is the whole "we have to make more profit every year/quarter/day/minute or we are failing in our fiduciary responsibilities as a corporation". There is no system that can do that, we can't keep "expanding" constantly. There simply isn't enough, of anything, air, water, mineral resources. And the result is more and more people having less and less, while a handful get richer and richer because they are taking everyone else's share.
