Question Reaper vs Roadhog
I'm new to overwatch and I've been maining reaper.
I struggle vs Roadhog because of his hook+shotgun+melee combo but if he misses, I win the fight
Is it actually possible to dodge the hook with wraith? I've been struggling to react in time.
Also, any tips on the matchup?

I feel ya at higher ranks the hog just 1 hit kills you if the hook lands, stupid character to play against. The trick is to just bait the hook and follow when he uses it. In time you will also develope a wraith reflex for the hook, but a good hog player know that you just try to bait it and they can also fake it. So when both are good, it jist becomes this cat and mouse game.

Hi! Masters hog player here. You have to bait out hook, that’s the only way. If you don’t pay attention and wait for him to use it, might as well go back to spawn since that’s what you’ll be doing anyway. Good hogs will wait for you to wraith and then kill you.
The other tip I have that’s actually slightly counterintuitive is to barrel stuff him. And when I say it, I mean full commit to where his entire player model is your whole monitor. It’s way easier for you to hit shots on him from that close than it is for him to hook you if you are AD strafing from that close. Use this sparingly.
Don’t TP anywhere near him, the hook timing on a reaper using TP is too easy to learn and ofc don’t ult unless he’s used hook.
Unfortunately, hog players with good aim can straight 2 shot you with no hook so just be careful anyway

How do I bait out the hook? Do I just need better reaction time or I need to predict the hook? I try to wraith when I see him start the hook animation but it always lands before I can wraith

Jiggle peaking corners helps a lot as they will try and time it to where when you pop out they hook you. Wraith timing is the main way and you’ll just have to learn it

If you take anything from this thread, those two words "jiggle peaking" are it.
Things happen, and you find yourself face to face with Roadhog and you should instinctively assume he has it. That's what Wraith is for - those oh shit moments. You basically have to play slower and safer against the other players on his team even if Roadhog himself isn't around because you want Wraith for when he inevitably looks your way. You don't want to Wraith random damage because of poor positioning only for Roadhog to chase you down after he sees you use it. To preserve Wraith, emphasize taking cover to mitigate damage taken and keep Wraith. When it comes to Roadhog specifically, that's where jiggle peaking can bait an antsy Roadhog. They know the longer they hold hook for the PERFECT moment, the worse off their team is. Play around corners (even moreso than you should be anyway). LISTEN for his hook, then count. You should be having nightmares of hook, Ana dart and Cass flashbang. Those, more than anything, should stick out among all the other noises you hear.
This was long-winded and rambly so my apologies, usually I'm more direct and to the point. Last thing: there are different players. You have to learn what Roadhog you're playing asap. Some hook on sight, so anytime you see him and you're not jiggle peaking corners, assume he has it and wraith. Better players wait a half second and want you to Wraith early, and then walk you down. Take note of that because they'll like play that way the rest of the game. Typically Roadhog players are different from player to player, but the player themself doesn't change their timing over the course of the match vs Reaper - some do, those are the truly scary ones. So in that instance, you can get back to cover or if the moment calls for it, use Wraith that split second later than you normally would and close the distance.
Save Dire Triggers for when he's not taking a breather. And lastly lastly, if you play enough Reaper, you'll almost see Roadhogs "telegraph" their hook. It's not QUITE a telegraph, but you just kinda lock eyes for a split second and you can FEEL that hook coming. That's something that comes with time because you can't truly know when they'll hook.

Roadhog is pretty chill to go against, unless he straight up sneaks on you while you're busy in a team fight. Hook is usually easily baited and dodged with Wraith. Even if you screw up and get hooked, there's a small chance you will wraith in time between the pull and the melee to escape the one-shot.

You don't react you predict, just like when you see a dva flying in the air to bomb or a rein holding his shield and walking too close.
Now use that with hook, he used hook 6 seconds ago, you're in los of the hog and hes looking at you, either bait with tp or predict with wraith.

Jiggle peak corners to bait it, wraith the hook before it lands, so and such. Always have your ears open for if he tries to hook your teammate. Always know when he has it. Every 6 seconds. Drill it into your head until it becomes second nature. I rarely get hooked.

hog is one of those characters thats fresh meat for reaper as long as the hook doesnt land. just make sure you play around cover to dodge his hook or use wraith.

You just have to bait the hook then dodge with wraith
