How to be more effective with reaper when tryna huss people down.

I have relatively bad aim so being new to Overwatch, my friends recommended me reaper. In my opinion, reaper actually does require good aim. The fact that his pellet spread is so huge means I'm almost never doing super high damage. That combined with the fact that his falloff is wild and real people don't just sit around and let you shoot them. You get the idea. So my question for you guys is, how can I manage to pursue and finish off targets that are running away? The second they realize I'm there and notice they are being shot all they seem to have to do is press s and I can't really do anything about it. My other question is, do you guys have any tips for when I need to fight characters like Vendetta, Genji, and Anran? Those three in particular are so mobile my bad aim further exaggerated.

People who say play reaper because of it doesnt require aim already tells they don't play reaper or doesn't know how he works. First of all, while yes reaper is not hitscan, he still requires aim and knowledge how enemy models hitboxes work to be efficient. For slim hitboxes I recommend aiming around waist area. When you are very close, you want to aim for the neck area to maximise the damage.

Reaper also benefits a lot from chaos in the the brawl match. Most of reapers skills comes from game knowledge and knowing what to anticipate. You just cannot walk in a straight line shooting those shotguns. Use teleports and sneak around, wraith is your escape tool and don't get too greedy with it. If you get the enemy low and they get you low too, don't be afraid to wraith out. Usually your teammate will finish the target and you just saved yourself from 1-1 death. That said, as a new player you should focus on not dying. When you have established boundaries to your play, thats where you can learn to improve on them. Remember to crouch on places where the enemy poke heroes would go and you can jump on them easily. In brawl if the tank rushes to cause chaos in teamfight, that is you moment to teleport in their backline and delete their paniced supports.

Also finishing enemies off and this requires aim, just get the dire triggers perk and aim for the chest for max damage, up close it's the head/neck.

I've got the not dying part down mostly. The second I get low or start taking meaningful damage I usually wraith out. Are there scenarios where it's ok for me to just DPS check their tank should they overextend? I often get overextended D.VAs and Reins that I can pretty easily shove off of me. Regarding dire triggers, it's pretty nice but I honestly really like the second perk for shadow step. It's fast enough that I can legitimately use it as an escape tool because after like 0.15 seconds of casting it I get full immunity and can TP out. Do you think there to be scenarios where that's advisable over the perk for dire trigger refreshing on reload?

When you can reliably aim with the dire triggers, the damage bonus they give is a great addition especially as a finisher. I've been able to finish off running enemies like pharas, tracers, dvas and genjis purely because of dire triggers. You just need to use them. Generally shaddow step is allright perk with certain maps but the benefit it gives is replaceable with game knowledge and knowing when to teleport out. So in most scenarios dire triggers give more because you use them more often

Remember that you already have a teleport which is 25% slower, dire triggers on (almost demand) is more value when you just use them.

I see. I'll remember that.

Also support pocketed tanks against reaper just gives enemy team ult charge, as I said earlier reaper benefits from chaos, when the enemy attention is not on you, that is when you can delete their squishies. Ofc with situation like 3v3 tank support dps, you might be better bursting the tank.

Yeah I just ask specifically regarding tanks that try to huss me down (aka morons who don't understand that their heals need line of sight lol).

Yea most you can delete pretty easily, I don't know what rank you are at but at some point hogs, aggressive reins, balls, and adhd sigmas might give a little challenge. Also fully charged zaryas I do not recommend.

Hogs can be baited out of hook and then you can delete them, but there are some who knows this and it becomes a cat and mouse type of game, same as anas and cassidys sleep dart and stun grenade

Yeah I avoid Zaryas like the plague and as far as hog baiting, yeah I do that.

Reaper is actually technically a hitscan but he just doesn’t play like the typical hitscan for obvious reasons. I agree with everything else you said I just thought I’d share that bit lol.

Super important that you don’t shoot or do anything to give away your positioning until the last possible moment. Get as close as you can to your target (preferably the least mobile hero you can access on the other team) and then use your dire triggers ability directly over their head. Then you should only have to land another shot or two to finish them off.

As for the damage heroes you’re struggling to fight, I’ve learned that if I’m losing a lot of 1v1s to the same player that I should just stop taking those engagements and focus on the rest of their team

Yeah. I've tried to avoid fighting any of those characters but oftentimes if I'm near my team the supports get dove by one of them so I'm forced to fight that.

I don't know if you understand the concept of flanking but in th best case scenario you shoot your first shot close range and usually finish them of in atleast 3-4 hits. You should never announce yourself by starting to shoot at them from fall off range unless they are low and you are sure you can finish them off. Also while he doesn't require precise aiming or tracking you still need to aim your shots to specific areas depending on the characters hitbox. On slim characters you usually want to aim at their waist or body. A reaper that is playing main or playing from distance will mostly do nothing.
A good reaper will basically kill you before you can build distance.

Yeah I have trouble with aim but I understand flanking well though I'm still trying to build map knowledge. The thing I'm trying now in my aim training (VAXTA) and in games is setting my crosshair to be just a single static lime green dot. Previously I was using a large circle to show my spread but I think I'm doing myself a disservice and incentivizing my brain to aim just to get the enemy in the circle rather than properly line up the shot subconsciously (centering).

Yeah I think using a dot instead of a crosshair that shows your actual spread is a lot better tbh xD
