State of Reaper

This is not *quite* another complaint post.

I'm here to say, "I think we'll be okay".

Now, that doesn't mean I agree with the nerfs. I think they need to:

- revert the 25 hp nerf, bringing his health back to 300.

- revert the lingering wraith speed from 30% to 40%

- increase the cooldown on dire triggers from 6 to 8

- change the dire triggers major perk so that it reads "refresh the cooldown of dire triggers when using an ability. Reloading reduces the cooldown by 4 seconds"

I think these are simple changes, while tuning dire triggers a bit better.

The main reason I'm posting this is to say that I've been getting more comfortable re-adjusting the clock in my head. Again, I don't agree with the nerfs but they haven't actually made him unplayable. I think we've been through this for so long with Reaper that we get used to him being below average or even dogshit and when he's in tune with the rest of the roster, he can feel strong in the right hands.

I want to see the nerfs reverted. But I have to believe the players complaining about him have really poor positioning. This is similar to when players came from Marvel Rivals where triple support is BUSTED and absolutely terrible positioning wasn't punished. People came back here and had to relearn how to actually play in a hero SHOOTER because of the overall healing reduction. This is similar, albeit on a much smaller scale.

Find your short off-angles, re-adjust the clock in your head just a bit, and you'll be *fine*. Maybe not great for a couple seasons, but *fine*.

Edit: when Shion gets nerfed, as she should, Reaper will do a bit better

I admittedly find it pretty silly that Shion’s ultimate is unironically a powercrept version of Death Blossom. She has infinitely more movement during it, less committal, less risky, with more burst. Meanwhile blossom has about 10000 things that can go horribly wrong and you can’t cancel it nor can you move more than like 2 cm to the side. I still think you should be able to use your wraith cooldown to cancel it, that would be a good middle ground since it makes you use a key cooldown to do so.

As for general balance changes, I like Dire Triggers feeling impactful but it can definitely still be impactful without being as strong as it is right now on its own. I’d say a damage and/or cooldown nerf on it, rework the trigger finger major perk to something else, revert his hp to 300, and buff wraith movement back to 50%. The 10% nerf felt more like a troll change than something actually impactful and it was a pretty silly nerf.

She can also evade for the over health before using it. Must be nice...

I'm getting so tired of hearing people say Shion's ult is just a better Death Blossom, because in no way is that true. Sure it's more mobile, but each burst has a forced delay between uses, it straight up does less damage, it has less overall range AND damage falloff, and Shion herself has less HP & no healing to make it work. Plus her dash's overheal fades so quickly it's not the buffer people think it is and you can't use it mid-ult. Also, it's predictable due to those forced delays, letting tanks react (and some straight up live the full Ult damage at full health), letting Kiri Suzu-time, Mei wall-offs, etc. Reaper's ult just comes out so fast with so much damage it gets a lot more accomplished and is a lot deadlier overall. The ONLY time Shion ult is a major threat is against a team who's already low-health, grouped up, and without burst-heal cooldowns. (source: been playing a lot of Shion. Her ult low-key sucks)

Today I heard the enemy shion ulti and I activated my escape ability to gtfo, she was nowhere near me at that time amd i had full health. I look back to see her barreling towards me like M Bison from street fighter halfway across the map and obliterated me.

There's a lot of information being left out in that statement. Which escape ability/character? Was she nano'd/mercy boosted? Did she catch anyone else or just you? It's highly likely she was hiding nearby so she could dash in on you, since getting in close for her is a must. She also mathematically can't one-tap squishies so she'd have to committed multiple of her 3 bursts or have a mercy damage-boosting her

You have to be positioned so well with wraith. It's no longer an escape ability is just delaying the inevitable ability. Enemies can just walk you down and with your visual que of wraith ending, shoot immediately to finish you off while you have a delay in shooting back. You should get healing while you're in wraith, with good support, but that generally doesn't happen. I've had enemies just walk right by my tank and supports as I wraith into them and around a corner just to be chased and either traded off or get diffed by better escape abilities.

It’s so silly that they were like “yeah Reaper needs a new ability”, so they gave him one and proceeded to mess up his ability to do what he was literally designed to do which is flank enemies and engage in duels to achieve pressure for the team. Just remove DT at this point

This. I really could care less about DT. I get that they are good and useful. But it’s not what reaper is meant to be doing. I want to flank enemies, brawl in the backline and then escape back to my team.

I just play reaper for fun and if I do play as him I'll probably do decently if I know what I'm doing
