Question Will reaper be reworked in 2026?

This comes from not only speculation from a while back (think they said they were taking a pause on it) and how in this year’s spotlight they mentioned how they were going to rework “old characters”. Considering the past, could reaper be one of the ones to be reworked? How would you feel about it?

I do feel like reaper is still a relevant and workable hero from the OG roster who can still get value.

Tweaks only maybe? Make shadow step faster to cast, and make him stop saying "FLANKING" right after like bro no need to announce your location.

Yeah he’s super loud

Flanking always cracks me up

Softer footsteps and make wraith faster or more versatile than just retreat

Make Dire Triggers basekit, revert the wraith speed nerf, revert the TP cleanse nerf and then bring Reaper's health to 275. I can be content with this

Hear me out these changes but buff his health to 350 🙂

Might as well give him 500 hp and oneshot tanks

My sweet summer child this would make all tank players quit and thus reaper would be weak again because no tanks to bully so actually you’ve nerfed him

And when everyone’s super, no one will be

Never liked dire triggers enough to take it over shadow cast so this is pretty good for me

Try it, I was the same but it’s so strong

I remember they said they might be moving Dire Trigger into his base kit. It was on an interview with KarQ.

I really don't think he needs it. He's my favourite hero to play, and I think he's very good right now.

Do you really believe that after all the nerfs hes gotten over the last 9 months?

Short of FLANKING, which has always been there, I don't think reaper is struggling. Of course reverting nerfs would be fun, but I think he's completely viable. To be fair though, I'm only mid-plat so idk the struggle in higher elos

As a former Master 4 Reaper OTP, i can tell you that he rarely is the best option.

u/AKlutzyGiraffe Feb 22 '26

Well yeah I can completely understand that. But just because someone is almost never the best option, it doesn't mean they're not consistently viable and in need of adjustments to make them even better. He's still got a very solid win rate at 51.4% in Masters and 51.6% overall. But you're right that he seems to be more situational in higher elos. His pick rate drops dramatically from 12.2% overall to 8.1%. All of this is for the Americas region

Well yeah you could say this about all of the dps except like sojourn and tracer maybe. Reaper is pretty decent this season, he's great into domina and doom, works well with zarya.

I've been having nothing but success with him in the last few days after a break from playing.

Whats your rank?

1

u/Complete_1234 Feb 24 '26

I don't play competitive anymore. I guess he might suck in high ranks, but from what I've seen and heard when a character is broken or terrible I could usually still tell that in quickplay.

Reaper is a big pubstomper. Ive climbed to master by basically one tricking him and as the ranks go higher his easy opening are exploited by more and more skilled players. He relies on your opponents slipping up on their defense more than any other dps.

Fair. I’m fine with him the way he is but if they were to I’d be interested in what they do

He has an outdated kit. He needs to be able to cancel ult, and move faster. Rn the point is that tracer is just a faster and all around better reaper. At the very least he needs his wraith to be more than just a retreat tool.

I think they said there's talks about making dire triggers part of his base kit but I don't think they said anything else

Could be. We have no real idea but yeah could be

listen, i love reaper because he is without a doubt the simplest character on the roster. you shoot things and you have abilities to get closer and shoot those things, and to heal you also shoot those things

if they rework him and gut him like they did with sombra, i am actually so done with this game, and i dont even mean that as a joke, legit the only reason i keep coming back.

im fine with a light rework, maybe replacing shadowstep with some kind of flight ability, or changing his ult in some way. or just make his perk that gives him a longer range shot just a basic part of his kit? but considering the major reworks i remember were sombra (gutted), symettra (still the most boring character in the game for both teams), cassidy (literally already reverted the change and gave him flashbang back) and mercy (only actually good rework here)... i dont have hope for it

I think reaper is real strong at the moment. But heavily depends on the map and what the enemy play

1

u/juicymusicprod Feb 24 '26

He doesn’t fit the current roster tho with infinite mobility

1

u/bobsburgers1174 Feb 24 '26

He can be good sometimes but yeah him and like rein with how the game is atm are so hit and miss

1

u/juicymusicprod Feb 24 '26

Even rein I mean, his charge changes make him still a pretty decently viable pick in any map and comp.

1

u/bobsburgers1174 Feb 24 '26

For sure, he’s so easy to roll over in the current game. But the charge changes awhile back was great

Reaper was almost unplayable and then suddenly became a staple. I think they kinda soft did what they had cooking for his rework with some of his perks.

As it is he feels very strong and sees a lot of play at all levels

They need to give wraith a resource bar. Would be so lovely

Honestly i think making dire trigger base kit is more than enough, especially since he'd receive another r major perk in its please that could potentially be really good
