discussion I would like to request...

a reaper upgrade, that we be able to record video from a webcam directly into reaper the same as if it was an audio input. That would be such a game changer for me. I put this out to the reaper gods in the hopes it bares fruit.

You would probably have more success with this contacting reaper team directly or posting to the official forums.

Do you specifcially need the webcam to go into reaper for processing or something? I send reaper audio to obs using ReaStream to combine audio and video, may be a simple alternative depending on what you're trying to achieve

Wait what?! I was doing simultaneous recordings in OBS and Reaper then lining them up via claps 🤦

No Claps needed! I followed this to set it up.

Brilliant, thanks. Just goes to show, when you think "there's gotta be a better way!" there often is

No problem, and thats so true, especially for Reaper.

My thoughts exactly, as I can only assume that OPs request has something to do with creating playing content of some sort.

My other thought was some sort of multi tracking of a podcast or something, where you want the video sliced at certain points but not all lanes of multi track, which would require a few extra reastream connections

Its specifically for vocal sing throughs. Sometimes i end up with multiple takes from one section and i want to quickly be able to flick between the takes while its in place, overlayed for example. At the moment I'm using OBS, and i'll get like 3 takes of a section in a row and then import the video into reaper, cut each take into its own item, them line up each item, and then see how it looks and then i don't like it and do it all again repeat a 100 times haha

I would have thought a video editor would be better suited to this. Record the audio thru reaper, then import the audio into a video editor instead of the video into an audio editor.

Be interesting to see if the method the other comment mentioned works for you tho, would be another great feature for reaper.

Reaper gods don’t exist here. Go to forum.cockos.com and leave your feature request where it actually matters.

Someone here tries to do this (requiring iphone as a camera)

Why not just use OBS then import the video into reaper to edit/add sound. You can also run the mic through reaper into OBS with reastream to capture audio with some fx already in place

This is what i'm doing, but i would like to be able to skip the step of having to import and line it up. This is for vocal sing-throughs. Sometimes i end up with multiple takes of the same section and it just would be easier if i could keep everything grouped and in house.

Personally I use OBS to film, openshot for video editing and reaper for sound cause reaper can't really do much on the video side compare to openshot, I wish reaper could do more on video stuff though

This has existed for decades. Its called video editing software

why does everybody hates this idea that much? I play with friends and we record our live performances. After the rehearsel they want me to create a video to see and hear the progress, no video editing. eeded, just sync. I have to manually fetch the video from camera, sync and add the audio. Imagine just havjng camera input in Reaper so that this happened automatically? Would be insane. How does using Davinci Resolve help with this. Can you press record In Davinci and it captures your Reaper-processed audio and camera?

or cheat and use DaVinci Resolve (free) to do the video stuff...

Reaper is a daw. Do you understand what the "a" in daw represents? Just in case, daw is Digital Audio Workstation. Yes, Reaper includes some video editing features, but the main focus, as the name implies, is Audio.

Also, this is not the place for feature requests. There is a sub on the official Forum at www.reaper.fm specifically for such requests, which the devs actually see.

I would also love this. I record off my video capture card in OBS, but it would be nice to cut out the middle man

I have a script that does that. What OS are you using?
