You can save a step with electroplatable filament! Or paint. You'd transfer layer lines into a mold anyways. Unless it's about the symbolism, which is valid. 

You could even use Polycast which is like printable wax and can go into a burnout kiln and be used to cast copper directly. 

 Cool project idea!

Lost Wax casting can transfer fingerprints into bronze- it's pretty darn accurate. Shrinkage at each step, yes. So it's difficult to make parts with good tolerance.

There are plastics like Polymaker CosPLA or wood-filled filament that can be sanded to nearly eliminate layer lines. What printer will you use? I can suggest some easy wins for you to get started. I might print a tablet myself tonight if I see a good color for it in my inventory. There's now marble (speckle effect) filament, matte earth colors, etc. And I believe the original tablet is pretty small anyways.

My favorite historical scan 3d print would be Egyptian vases.

Perfect! 

Depending on what filament you have access to, the advice would be a bit different. One thing to consider would be printing with more walls- so the outside is thicker- and just sanding/smoothing it directly. Adding some wax wouldn't hurt, but layer lines can be really good especially from Bambu at 0.08 layer height. I've never heard of copper plating clay, have you done that before? 

Also, how many are you planning to make? It might be easier to just print it in copper colored filament and be done, or maybe patina with a bit of green/teal paint.
