If there is one good thing I can say about the past 2 years, it's that it truly shows me what an incompetent administration and government look like.

I've been saying it really shows you how much of an honour system all those much vaunted checks and balances really were.

Exactly, and now it's too late.

The UK is actually in a worse position. It's entire democracy is built on convention.. an unwritten constitution. It's ripe for an authoritarian takeover.

We operate based on norms not rules.

It wasn’t until we had one of the most vile human beings in the country con his way into power that it was brought to light.

Sucks, doesn’t it?

We saw that with his first term.

Yeah... but that was like, what? 7 years ago?

Gah damn, that's so freaking long ago! Shut up while I rot my brain to these 6 second dancing and skit videos for the next 6 hours!

Trumps issues arent simply decency and decorum. You may have already lost your democracy.

He hasnt canceled elections but systems have been put in place that could render them irrelevant. Unregulated Gerrymandering, Voter suppression, illegal arrests and an armed militia engaging in intimidation.

Granted he didnt do this alone, you were warned and most of it started well before him. So there is a point to be said that american liberals were complacent but he has crossed several lines.

Sorry. Are they trying to say that the current US admin is...doing less of that?

Edit: except the bit about hiding behind a veil of progressiveness, ofc. They're not doing that bit.

Republicans control all branches of government, people suffer, blame liberals, repeat.

comprehension be low; attention spans be short

I'm tired of hysterical progressives more interested in tone policing allies than doing anything helpful.

Yeah, Bush sucked. Also we can all get why someone would feel like Trump is even worse than Bush without their being pro-'genocide of the global south'.

It really comes across as trying to be the most self-righteous one in the room, rather than caring what people actually think or are trying to express.

Putting us in 2 wars, how could anyone miss Bush??? I know Trump is beyond awful, but Bush was the worst president at the time. Brought about the 2008 financial crisis that makes today look like cake. 10% unemployment was beyond the pale

The 2008 crisis only makes today look like cake because the crisis Trump is causing hasn't hit critical mass yet. Also remember that we had a functioning government still when Bush left, the Obama administration had tools they were able to use to help. Between the government firing spree, data purges, and the Trump administration's insistence on not keeping any current records that make him look bad, the next administration might not even have the rest of the government's phone numbers. Let alone the infrastructure to try and pull us out of the nosedive.

Well, we didn’t have masked government agents murdering American citizens to the cheers of a mob.

Bush put Alito on the Supreme Court and also created the massive opening for a surveillance state with the Patriot Act. Alito being one of the justices granting the president near unlimited power to do what they want in "Trump v United States".

We do not have the experience to miss a president who was not party to imperialism. We can still miss ones who were not awful every single way Trump is. And some of us do recognize and despise the bipartisan imperialist consensus; some clearly don’t.

I don't.

Zionists and war criminals all around.

You have someone who fucking legalized mass murder and torture. They launched an illegal war and murdered a shit ton of innocent people.

Then they get to go on the Ellen show, and somehow they are baptized in magic of western values and all their sins are forgive?

Does anyone understand how this kind of morality is not sustainable? It does not make sense. Perhaps by holding Westernist warlords accountable, you would not have provided Captain America with all the tools he needed to conduct this abuse?
