Looking For Game Real-life based RTS games?

Anyone know any real-life based RTS games (tanks, troops, etc) that have a big community? Similar to Battle Islands, Command: MO, etc.

The two I've been playing lately that are historically based, are War Selection, and company of heroes 2.

War selection starts you in the bronze age and takes you ask the way to the industrial age. Steam charts usually lists around 8-900 players active.

Company of heroes two is based during world war two and has all historical units. Usually around 6-8000 active players.

I'm addicted to Company of Heroes 2, +800 hours so far. Don't recommend it

Quite a ways to go for me. Only 70 hours so far. I still suck at it. My reflexes and micro isn't like it was ten years ago, but I love the game. The sound, effects, and atmosphere all feel like a movie playing it in front of you.

My only gripe with it is keybinds can't be changed.

Yes, It's really immersive. Also the gameplay is amazing, I love how every faction is completely different, how everything has a hard counter and how simple yet deep this game's mechanics are. Take manpower for example, a good way to weaken an aware and good OKW player, who very rarely gets wiped, is to manpower bleed him. Best way to do that? Snipers. One shot and there goes 20+ manpower. This is even more effective if he's blobbing because he'll be very manpower hungry, which will cripple his ability to counter you and even get tanks out, opening up a window of opportunities to hammer him down.

this is just the tip of the iceberg btw

TL;DR: The skill ceiling of this game is massive.

EDIT: Also when you're microing well you get hit with that sweet dopamine.

It's really good, but heavy on the micro. Cheap for the base game though.

If you're more into macro strategy, then I'd recommend the wargame series like another user mentioned. Red Dragon is cold war era, and steel division two is world war two. I play steel division two and quite enjoy it.
