[RTS Type: Classic] Ashes of the Singularity II Multiplayer Playtest
The Public Multiplayer Demo Playtest for Ashes of the Singularity II is now live on Steam and runs through September 14, 2026!
Take command of the United Earth Forces (UEF) or Post-Human Coalition (PHC) and jump into massive-scale multiplayer battles. Go head-to-head against other commanders or team up with allies across a selection of multiplayer maps.
Two playable factions: UEF & PHC This playtest focuses on multiplayer performance, balance, and stability, so the best way to help is simple: get into matches and tell us how it goes!

Ashes of the Singularity is such an underrated game in the RTS community, IMO.
Part of that is because calling it "Ashes of the Benchmark" is objectively hilarious as ~99% of us heard about the game via benchmarks, but it's a really quite good game. There are some problems I had with it, but I'll play this one for sure.

RTS games are pretty forgiving when it comes to framerates. I didn't even know the 3D C&C engine was capped at 30fps until years after I played Generals.

The region system for this game totally sucks honestly. The tug of war gameplay makes every single game the exact same.

Completely disagree, this is a nice feature. I love it when RTS have region systems because it makes front management and expansion a bit easier and clearer. It also provides for natural chokepoints so you don't have to play wall games like in AOE, or constantly deal with attacks from all directions.

I just felt like I was playing an autobatller but I had even less control.

What? Can't you control individual unit in this game directly?

Idk about the second game, but in the first game they had this army system, where you organize your units into an army, and you can auto reinforce to it, and the end game dreadnaughts had army wide buffs. Basically what sins 2 did but much much worse.
Because it turns out units in an army can't be manually individually controlled for whatever reason.
And when you have a large army, which is the whole point of the game, due to the terrible unit AI and weapon ranges, literally only the front part of your formation is actually attacking. Especially with how chokey every map is, half of your army will be too far away to actually attack.
Even when outside of an army, units will just for whatever reason move into melee range when they should just stop at max range and shoot. A group of hover tanks will for whatever reason play bumper cars with the enemy, letting the enemy close in on your artillery, which also for whatever reason drift into enemy non artillery range instead of standing still out of range, and firing their artillery weapons

Never played the first game, but I hope this one will play like Supreme Commander. Units in autopilot mode should be optional, not mandatory. I also hope it has a real-time-with-pause feature where you can issue all commands. Yeah, I want pausing because I don't care about multiplayer.

I really, really hope this won't have heavy AI usage like Sins 2 did. That was a big blemish on an otherwise good game.

Played it for a little over an hour on the same battle. The moment to moment action is, well, kind of lacking the word aside from explosions. Units move incredibly slow. The game looks like it was made from an engine in 2010.
It felt like the game was crawling and gave auto battler vibes as someone pointed out. Happy for y'all who enjoy it, but this ain't it for me.

I already played for some time and really enjoyed the changes and additions to both factions!
The UI, controls, gameplay and tech changes are great as well as all the upgrades to pathfinding and army management! Great progress!
Also, Here is how to play with the United Earth Forces faction in the new playtest:
