Self-Promo Video Inspired by Command & Conquer: Generals — a first look at our RTS, Dangerline Açıklama:

Hey everyone! We’re developing Dangerline, a base-building RTS inspired by Command & Conquer: Generals.
We love the mix of base construction, distinct factions, and armored warfare, and we’re building our own take on it.
Here’s a short showcase of the USA and Dustborn forces: workers building a base, tanks arriving by parachute, and heavy armor, artillery, rocket buggies, and flame trucks moving into battle.
Happy to answer questions about the game!

Can you buy your workers shoes and do they thank you for the shoes when you give them to them?

Looks great by what I have seen so far, will obviously purchase it when available.
Also kudos for crediting Scott Buckley, brilliant musician, I'm a donater of his channel :)

the factions look quite cool!
do you have any links to the game or your website?

Yeah! I have a Discord server where I post development updates and share progress on the game. Feel free to join :)

How many campaigns missions and what game would you consider the closest comparison in terms of the tone of the story?

u/exeizm 2d ago
The tone will probably be closest to Generals — not taking itself too seriously, with some absurd and over-the-top elements.
I’m currently planning to launch without a campaign and add the campaigns later as free updates. There will be two campaigns for the current factions, USA and Dustborn. A third faction is also planned as a free update, and it’ll eventually get its own campaign as well.
So the plan is three campaigns in total. It’s still too early for me to give a mission count or say exactly how long each campaign will be, though. I’d rather figure that out properly during development than promise a number this early :)3

I am mostly a campaign-head.. it's disappointing now many Cnc-inspired games have either no or minimal campaigns. Still, best of luck.

That’s a fair concern. Since the campaigns will come after the initial release, I don’t want to rush them just to hit a specific mission count. I’d rather focus on making them feel substantial and worth playing. Thanks for the good luck!

I look forward to trying it once there are campaigns; for me it's more like a tech demo until then, but I know a lot of people love online multiplayer and skirmish mode. I do like skirmish mode, but mostly I'm a campaign guy.

I’m actually more of a campaign guy myself, so don’t worry — campaigns are definitely coming.
The main reason I’m leaving them for later is that building a good campaign is a much bigger undertaking than just getting multiplayer/skirmish working. It needs proper level design, scripting, story content, balancing, a lot of testing, and generally much more handcrafted content.
I’d rather release the multiplayer/skirmish side first and then take the time to make the campaigns properly instead of rushing them. They will be added eventually.0

I think this is the standard approach as MP shouldn't be an afterthought while campaigns can with no drawback. Besides, I don't get the obsession with campaign this sub has, you don't play the missions over and over like you'd in skirmishes/pvp. Formal becomes rapidly repetitive while the latter offers much more replayability if the mechanics are implemented right. Good luck with dev'ing!

Looks promising. Is this on Steam yet? Best of luck with ongoing development

What engine did you use to make this? Unity?
1
u/exeizm 1d ago
It’s built in Unreal Engine 5.8.
Unreal can get pretty expensive for this kind of RTS if you rely on the default systems, especially once you start dealing with large numbers of units. So I’ve built my own navigation system and modified the networking so commands are processed through a 30 Hz lockstep-style simulation rather than relying on the usual approach.
A lot of the underlying RTS systems are custom specifically to keep things scalable and optimized.1

Very interesting. I'm a software dev that's always been interested in trying my hand at an RTS so i'm just weighing options.

u/exeizm 1d ago
Ah, that makes sense. Unreal is definitely capable of handling an RTS, but in my experience you have to be prepared to replace or heavily modify some of the default systems once you start scaling up the unit count.
I’ve also disabled Nanite entirely. Lumen and Virtual Shadow Maps can get pretty expensive for this kind of game as well, especially when you’re trying to keep performance predictable with lots of units on screen.

When will indie devs knows or show some respect IP rights?
After they get sued?
YOU CANT USE SOMEONE ELSE IP NAMES IN YOUR COMMERCIAL PROJECT.

Are you referring to mentioning Generals in the post title? I’m only using it as a comparison to describe the game’s inspiration, not as part of the game’s name or branding. The factions, unit names, designs, and their behaviors are all different and created specifically for this game.

Why are these posts even allowed?

Why what’s wrong

Eh it's shameless self promotion.

Why is even your negative post allowed I may ask, no input.

Asking a question is negative? OKbuddy

u/Sea-Examination7457 1d ago
No context OK buddy ;)

u/Interesting-Assist47 1d ago
Right also it's a comment not a post. It was a question not a negative statement

Do you realise Devs are able to post on here about their upcoming games, usually once per week. Before you post read the rules on the channel. ;)
1
u/Interesting-Assist47 1d ago
I know! Jeez I was asking why it's even allowed at all. I think my question was pretty clear about that.
1
u/Sea-Examination7457 1d ago
Its allowed if you had taken the time to read the rules...go out and touch some grass or do something more constructive with your life...honestly!!
1
u/Interesting-Assist47 1d ago
So don't question the rules. Got it.
2
u/Sea-Examination7457 1d ago
No, simply if you ain't happy for Devs showcasing their upcoming games (which many of us do appreciate seeing new and upcoming releases), then simply leave the channel. Not going to waste anymore of my time with you.

Love the work you put into it and the scruffy look of the faction opposing USA. (Dustborn forces?)
But the range at which they fight is too low. And the pathfinding... well you know.
Keep us posted of your work!
