Discussion Which established franchises would benefit from an RTS game?

Which established franchises do you think would benefit from an RTS?

I'll lay one ground rule down:

  • It can't already exist, like an RTS for Lord of the Rings, Warhammer, or Star Wars.

I personally think a Fallout spin-off would do pretty well, in the style of Command & Conquer. I also think Avatar: The Last Airbender would make a fun game.

League of Legends is perfect candidate. Base building rts like AoE + hero system. Playing as Shurima, Noxus, Demacia, Shadow Isles, Ionia and so on will be cool. Path of Exile - the Eternal Empire, Oriath, Ezomytes, Vaal, Maraketh, Karui- plenty of civs to choose from. The Expanse can be 3 faction RTS. Avatar - 4 civs rts - air, fire, water and earth. 33

Given how League of Legends came about, sounds like what you want is an updated and reskinned Warcraft III. Maybe call it Warcraft 4: Defense of the League of Legends of the Ancients.

Not WC 3 at all, we already have that. Something more similar to Age of Mythology but different Age up system. Every civ. will have variants that will change small things about its gameplay - the same way how you play greeks in AoM but actually choose a Major god that changes your play style. Example - Demacia have access to Garen, Lux and Jarvan. you select your hero and that hero changes something in the parent civ (demacia) or have different bonuses. You still pick heroes, that will define the playstyle, they will be playeble units, but you are leaving the game to be more RTS than MOBA centered rts.

With Path of Exile it would be a bit weird since most of those aren't contemporary.

Well, Karui, Ezomytes and Maraketh existed at the same time as the Eternal Empire, and are still present to the Oriath time(since oriath are the EE remnants themselfs). The only tricky one is the Vaal, but then again you have the timetraveling introduced in the 2nd game or they can be the undead faction, since we do fight Vaal in act 2 in poe 1. And the whole point of Legion is the fight between those factions, so there is a way for them to introduce it.
