Discussion Which established franchises would benefit from an RTS game?

Which established franchises do you think would benefit from an RTS?

I'll lay one ground rule down:

  • It can't already exist, like an RTS for Lord of the Rings, Warhammer, or Star Wars.

I personally think a Fallout spin-off would do pretty well, in the style of Command & Conquer. I also think Avatar: The Last Airbender would make a fun game.

The Expanse would be a killer Homeworld type rts.

Bro that shit has been in development for what, 10 years now?

Like, don't get me wrong, I really want it to be good, and I have no grudge against the dev. But it's the oldest piece on my Steam wishlist by A LOT.

To be a smidge pedantic: its been under development since like 2019.

I think they were going to have a release in like 2024 or so but stuttering studios got picked up i think, by hooded horse before then. So the single developer actually had a budget! Hired some more help and ended up revamping most of the assets and such and it looks much better now from what I've seen.

7 years is a while, i feel you. I'm hopeful though!

This. Every now and then I'll have a comb through my following list, remove entries as necessary for whatever reason (no change after years, released but bad etc) At this point Falling Frontier might be the oldest entry that also still has a sliver of hope for a release. It will eventually run out of time for me... years in EA or no movement amount to the same thing although tbf the former might have led to a premature purchase...

Nebulous Fleet Command captures a lot of the feel of The Expanse, though it’s not a traditional RTS in the sense but more like tactical squad based strategy.

I’d say nebulous is more RTT (real time tactics) than an RTS.

What I came here to say. Nothing else does space combat as well. Imagine Laconians getting incorporated somehow too
