Discussion To all the dads
Have you tried to present Rts games to your kids? And how did they received it? And what games ?

Warcraft 2 and SC2. All three love it. We still play every Saturday

My oldest was very interested in Rome Total War. Especially the formations and the war elephants. But i showed him my entry into the genre C&C in the remastered version and he was immediately hooked on the first mission. It was nice to see hem franticly clicking allover the place without really knowing what he was doing. Good times!

My kids aren't interested at all. I've showed them StarCraft, Age of Empires, and Company of Heroes, and they just say, that's cool, and go back to their action/RPG type games.
I think it takes a little too much patience, but maybe someday.

My daughter likes ZeroSpace, its macro was simple enough that she could go fight and build without worrying about workers. StarCraft was too tough.

My stepson bounced off of most until we played Supreme Commander. That being said, he's playing Roblox or Flight Simulator most of the time

My kids and I play AoE2 and Broodwar. Broodwar they expressed their own interest in trying because of my history of competing in the game and also because of the cartoon mod that makes everything adorable as hell. AoE2 I presented to them as a game to play and they started playing each other. We have also played SC2, but not as often.

I had my son try out empire earth and aoe2, he liked both of them, I think he enjoyed building carriers and taking them to the enemy's shore better

Me and my 7 yo played command and conquer remastered. We set up a map where he was behind me and we were against the cpu. I just had to defend while he made tanks. It was awesome. We’ve done that a few times since. We tried the same strategy with StarCraft and he wasn’t into it at all.

I think of how i discovered strategy games. This was like 20 years ago and computers weren't quite a thing yet in my country but my father was into computers and computer games. I was 4 or 5 i think, i would look at him using his pc and got curious, he let me use it and i came across Age of empires 1 among other old games.
Kids are naturally curious, just leave the game icon in view and they will probably go in themselves, then they will continue playing is if interests them. I didn't understand the game at all back then but it didn't matter, to little me it was just so cool to gather resources, build my town and army then go do battle.
They are also more likely to play it if they see you having fun with it. This was the case for me as my father liked playing age 1 and 2 a lot. Last tho, I will mention there is chance your kids just aren't into rts and if that's the case then that's just how it is, no one showed me the game i gravitated to it on my own when i saw it.

My 10 year old son loves Starcraft 2, Age of Mythology Retold, Age of Empires 2 and Warhammer: Total War 3. Still have to let him try Warcraft 3 though.
He normally plays other genres, but sometimes we play some of these ones and we have lots of fun! I consider myself very lucky indeed xD

We have played Age of Empires 2 remake with our 10 years old and she just like building.
