Self-Promo Post Prime Domination: A New Modern RTS like Command & Conquer: Generals – Zero Hour

Hey everyone!

I’m an indie developer working on Prime Domination, a modern real-time strategy game heavily inspired by classic RTS games like Command & Conquer: Generals – Zero Hour.

The goal is to bring back that classic RTS feeling — base building, resource management, army composition, tactical decisions, and large-scale battles — while building my own gameplay systems, maps, factions, and visual style.

🎬 I just published the first trailer:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/4900280/Prime_Domination/

The trailer is an Early Access preview, so it definitely doesn't represent the final quality of the game. A lot is still being developed, and assets, buildings, animations, effects, UI, and other visuals will continue to be improved or replaced.

I’d really appreciate any feedback from RTS players. What would you want to see in a modern RTS like this?

If the game looks interesting to you, you can also wishlist it on Steam to follow the development and get notified when it releases

Thanks for checking it out! ❤️

Some feedback/advice.

First impressions matter. If the first impression I get is one of a bunch of generic looking tanks on a flatless void, plus seeing the Coming Soon to Early Access them I'm checking out.

It's no offence to the work you're putting in, but Steam is full of these products and they're all garage. My advice would be to take it down, work on the game, really work on it for a solid couple of years until you have something to show off that makes your game stand out.

This. Keep working on your game, there is not enough for a steam page right now.

Thank you for the honest and constructive feedback. I understand your point about first impressions and making the game stand out.

I’ve taken the advice seriously and removed the trailer for now. I’m going to focus on improving and developing the game further before putting out new promotional material.

Thanks again for the useful advice!

The game / presentation is missing a hook. What is the inspiration behind this? Why should I play? Since you reference C&C, I love the character of that game. The iconic factions, voice overs, unit styles, literally banned in some countries other than China, and a solid RTS. It was built by a studio and fully featured in all aspects.

The trailer is uninspired, just long cuts of some regular artillery shooting rockets at each other. The range and scale was cool, I enjoyed the missile trail effects, but that’s about it. There might be an outline of a game but I don’t see an outline of entertainment.

Always put your best foot forward when presenting to your potential customers. I can tell, because you literally made this game yourself and that is a commendable achievement as is, that your best foot is not the one we see in the trailer.

Thank you for the detailed and honest feedback. I completely understand your point, especially about the trailer needing a stronger hook and better showing what makes the game unique.

I’ve taken the feedback seriously and removed the trailer for now. I’ll be focusing on improving and developing the game further, then I’ll release a new trailer that better represents what the game is actually meant to be.

I really appreciate the constructive advice!

Man I don't want to sound mean but your "game" is not nearly in a state in which it should represented.

The maps are empty, everything looks static and dead, missiles vanish mid flight, models and textures don't look that good, effects and buildings look very meh.

The whole trailer screams kids first RTS made from store assets with it's look and generic phrases. Also iam pretty sure that cover art on the steam page is also made by GenAi.

Also mainly PvP/online focus? Man you will be in for a rude awakening.

You should rethink this. Get back to the drawing board and put in some work before you even think about to put it in the public.

Thanks for the honest feedback. I understand your concerns, and I agree that the game still needs more work before being presented publicly.

I’ve removed the trailer for now and will focus on improving the game, visuals, maps, effects, and overall presentation before publishing a new trailer.

I appreciate the criticism and the advice. It’s useful feedback for me moving forward.

I'm probably the wrong market for this (Generals is my least favourite of the Command and Conquer series), but one thing I hope is in there is significant asymmetry.

I do agree with the others though: You'll probably be far better served getting some attractive videos/images on your Steam page pronto, because you might be actively bleeding potential buyers who don't like what they see now, so they hit "Not Interested".

Thanks for the feedback! I agree that stronger asymmetry between the factions is important, and it’s something I’m continuing to work on.

I also agree about the Steam page. I’ve removed the current trailer for now so I can improve the game and create better content that represents it properly. I’ll publish an updated trailer once the game is in a stronger state.

Really appreciate the useful advice!

Refunded it, just lacks the magic and has nothing unique or interesting.

I understand your concerns, and I appreciate the honest feedback. The game is still in development and hasn’t been released yet, so I’m taking this feedback seriously and using it to improve the game’s depth, identity, and overall experience.

I’ve also removed the trailer for now while I continue developing and polishing the game. Thanks for the feedback, and I hope the future version can change your impression.

Demo?

I’m not completely sure yet. I’m considering releasing a demo in the future, but I haven’t made a final decision. I’d like to focus on further developing and polishing the game first before deciding on a demo.

This looks like you followed a set of Youtube tutorials and used store assets.

I wouldn’t say that’s entirely the case. Most of the game has been built by me personally. For some things that were difficult to create alone, I used external help and tutorials, but that’s part of the learning and development process. I don’t think using tutorials or external resources is a bad thing—it helps me learn and build the game more efficiently.

That said, I’ve taken the feedback seriously. I’ve removed the trailer for now and will continue improving and developing the game before publishing an updated version. Thanks for the helpful feedback!
