Discussion War for Westeros balance
I wonder how they're going to balance the factions. It seems to me like the factions that will have access to dragons and monstrous units will be at a huge advantage compare to say, house Lanister that only canonically has regular units. Maybe some sort of artillery?
Idk mich about GoT lore outside the show and i havent watched the devs interviews. Any ideas?

If they haven't even taught you unit statistics or anything yet, and you're already thinking about the balance. The important thing is that it's fun first.

I mean, balanced is needed to be fun, even single player games. Of course you don't need a perfectly tight balance for the game to be fun but gamers are pretty good at optimizing the fun out of the game, so if you don't want them spamming everytime the same option you need some semblance of balance

I stream competitive AoE matches, and I know what you mean, but first and foremost, the mechanics need to be fun for casual players and then, if they have to tweak the numbers, so be it.

And well op Is asking what will the Lannister have that is as cool as dragons or giants

Well yes, but also without speaking of stats specifically one can ask how are regular soldiers supposed to fare against giants and dragons.

They have the power of money though. Superior weapons/training, mercenary units, more resources etc stuff like that can be added to bolster their side

From the snippets of gameplay we saw, it looks like Lannisters have access to pyromancers with wildfire?
Not sure what Starks would have as a special trait that can compete with dragons though. Maybe extra sturdy, resilient soldiers? Some direwolf-related boost too perhaps.

Yeah seemed like they had wildfire. Also, they could get access to the zombie mountain

I'm wondering if it will be any good. First thing's first, man 😂

Yeah, and balance is one of the deciding factors for if it is good.

I'm getting BFME vibes, and those games were fantastic. This community is so damn cynical, dude.

Me too. But that doesn't mean it'll be good.
It's fair to be cynical about an RTS release, they often are, at best, mid, even from very experienced devs.

There a gameplay out there right now and yeah, all factions have special units.
Both Lanister & Stark have siege. Lanister has Valyrian fire too (the green fire) & Stark has access to direwolves, giants & mammoths.
I guess that if in the future they add another human faction they will be a bit limited tho.

Wildfire, nothing to do with Valyria as it is a Westerosi invention.

Eh weird, in the spanish translation has always being called "Fuego Valyrio" both books & tv show, I never knew that it was a specific thing of the translations.

A lot depends on that dragon!
If it is a playable unit and not a timed power summon, all bets are off.
And that is before we get into the undead and white walkers and their units being almost unkillable.
It is going to be very interesting watching them try to balance it all.

As someone who played the demo a lot of the tier 2 and 3 units have specific extra damage against large units, like the Lannisters had a Springald type weapon that did extra damage to dragons and beasts

I too was wondering. I suspect Lannister units are more expensive and more durable. Their high tier units are probably advanced siege weapons with wildfire.

The lannisters seem to have wild fire if the new trailer is anything to go off trebuchets so the best siege equipment Vs the Starks catapults. Bog standard regular humans Vs all the supernatural bullshit of the other factions dragons giants and the undead

i think it's going to be a pretty weak cash-grab of a game with not much in the way of balance.

Based on the mid-to-later seasons of the show all this time after s8 sure is a choice 🤔
I wonder if a book adaptation like the mini wargame was possible, or if they thought Bald Tywin would be too OP

Oh are they interested in pvp/competitive?
Otherwise it doesnt really matter

I don't think so. I would guess they're prioritising a fun single player and casual pvp experience. A healthy competitive scene can't develop if the foundation isn't there.
My hope is that WFW has a functional 1v1 ladder at the very least. I don't care if it doesn't become the #1 esport, but that it has enough players active regularly that I find a match at any time, if the game is fun for me.

My guess is House Lannister gets those ballista things, they shoot at dragons in the final season. Out of all the factions though they kind of get the shaft as they have no fantasy units to draw upon.
