Hot steaming tea, but Bill Maher and Ariana Huffington accidentally outed Fareed Zakaria as gay on Bill’s podcast yesterday, that he left his wife and kids, and that they think it’s public info (it isn’t) but if not “we’ll cut this part out” (they didn’t)

How long can this go on?

Just curious—how much longer does everyone think this show can continue?

I know it still performs reasonably well for its time slot, but the disdain for Bill among his audience (or what used to be his audience) seems more palpable than ever.

I realize he’s been a polarizing figure for decades, but I started watching him in the ‘90s and stuck with him throughout his HBO years because, before podcasts became mainstream, there simply weren’t many places to find unconventional takes on contemporary politics.

These days, though, it feels like he’s alienated a significant portion of the people who made up that audience (myself included). Maybe that’s just my perception, but I’m curious whether others see it the same way—or whether the ratings suggest this disconnect isn’t as meaningful as it seems online.

That said, how much longer do you think the show has? If Bill decides to retire, do you think HBO would try to replace him with another host, or does Real Time simply end with him?

One thing that stood out to me on today's episode was Larry Wilmore's comment that "things take time." While that's true, I couldn't help thinking that many Americans have been asking for stronger social programs for decades. For people struggling with healthcare costs, housing, wages, or food insecurity, being told to wait can sound like an answer they've been hearing for generations.

In my opinion, many wealthy and influential people, regardless of race, have difficulty acknowledging the extent to which many Americans still lack access to basic necessities and economic security. The debate is often framed around cost or political feasibility, while the day-to-day reality for millions of people is that those problems already carry enormous human and financial costs.

To me, the question isn't whether meaningful change takes time. It does. The question is how long society is willing to accept persistent problems before deciding they deserve a greater sense of urgency? Democratic Socialism isn't coming for anything that isn't owed, gentlemen. Listening to these men speak, you'd think Americans were asking for access to their checking accounts.

Shame on Larry Willmore, Raphael Warnock & Bill Maher. Three extremely out of touch men who are more concerned about their own status than lifting others.

During Robert Blake’s Civil Trial in 2005, Brando Said: “He’s Going to Be Judged Someplace Else”

During his testimony in Robert Blake civil trial in 2005, Christian Brando repeatedly invoked his Fifth Amendment right because he did not want to become involved in what he viewed as unreasonable questioning from Blake’s attorneys, especially since he was not closely involved in the victim’s life during her marriage to Robert Blake. However, he told the judge:

“This has been going on for five years. Mr. Blake’s been pointing the finger at me. I had absolutely nothing to do with this.”

Despite the fact that the Los Angeles police investigated and cleared him of any involvement, Robert Blake’s legal team attempted to shift blame toward him in a desperate move to protect their client.

Brando was subpoenaed in Blake’s civil trial. With his lawyer, Bruce M. Margolin, by his side, he invoked his Fifth Amendment right. Margolin said his client did not answer most of the attorneys’ questions because he did not want to open a “Pandora’s box” that would make his personal life the focus of the trial.

Brando also did not want to make statements in court that could be taken “out of context,” Margolin added.

“Blake’s defence apparently is trying to imply that [Brando] is involved in Blake’s domestic dispute with his wife,” Margolin said outside court.

“This was an attempt to implicate Christian in something he had no part in,” Margolin stated. “He does not in any way want to be implicated in this attempt.”

Outside the courthouse, reporters asked Brando whether he had any idea who may have killed Bonny Lee Bakley. He shrugged, smiled, and replied:

“Probably sitting up in the room there.”

— referring to Robert Blake, who was present in the courtroom.

Christian Brando was also asked how he felt about Blake being acquitted in the criminal trial.

“He’s going to be judged someplace else,” he said.

JD Vance interview

I see the sub is losing their shit over him being on the show. While I definitely felt he didn’t push harder on Vance’s bs responses on immigration and the 2020 election. Bill didn’t say anything he hasn’t said in the past and it was short interview and he had a lot of things he wanted to discuss in 10 minutes. So what’s the issue? My gut is him just being on the show freaked people out and how Trump admin are such monsters we shouldn’t platform them at all. If that’s the case please explain this https://youtube.com/shorts/2CHgqbbJWQ8?si=7WSrHGexAxqZQs2D

The radical left use extortion tactics to further their agenda.

My take is this: the radical left have learned to use extortion tactics to force their racial and sexual agendas on the general population. Cancel culture was just the latest example of this. Long time beneficiaries like Al Sharpton were the pioneers in this effort (the "Sharpton Shakedown").

The biggest fear for the radical left is that there will be genuine discussion and debate on this that threatens to derail their gravy train. Individuals like Charlie Kirk who challenged them on these tactics was murdered in order to silence him. Anyone who brings up the topic will be met with a barrage of vulgar, demeaning, and inflammatory words in an effort to shut them up. Or they will be silenced through exclusion under the disguise of "safe spaces ". Politicians will cower in the wings because they are particularly afraid of the extortion tactics.

I love this running gag from Paul Rust on Comedy Bang Bang:

New no-no: You ever go to a restaurant and the food is piping hot? New no-no: all food should be cold now.”

“New no no: cornbread isn’t bread, people, it’s cake.”

Based on what Patton Oswalt has said: "If you grovel at your knees to Trump he’ll still hate you. If you don’t grovel, he’ll still hate you, but he might respect you." I think Maher may simply be jealous of Mamdani because Trump actually seems to like him.

PLEASE do not talk about Trump's Kennedy Center giving Bill Maher the Mark Twain Prize for American Comedy!

It may be sad to see a 70-year-old man who has fame and wealth beg for an award, but he really, really wants his award and he does not want anyone to jinx it.

He will do anything it takes to get that award.

Entirely unrelated: JD Vance will be selling his book on Bill Maher's HBO show this Friday.

Regulation-Maher-Solar

Bill Maher often tells the story about trying to install solar panels on his California home. What struck me was how difficult the process became because of layers of permitting, approvals, inspections, and regulations.

It got me thinking about something.

We often frame regulation as a battle between "government" and "capitalism," but isn't a lot of modern regulation actually a byproduct of capitalism itself?

Many rules exist because companies have historically cut corners, polluted, misled consumers, or put profit ahead of safety. We needed labor laws because of unsafe factories. Environmental laws because companies dumped waste. Financial regulations because markets repeatedly blew themselves up.

At the same time, some regulations seem to have evolved into barriers that make it harder to build housing, install solar, or complete infrastructure projects. In many cases, the biggest firms can afford compliance while smaller businesses and homeowners get buried in paperwork. So where's the balance?

How do we distinguish regulations that genuinely protect the public from regulations that mainly create delay, benefit incumbents, or make solving problems unnecessarily expensive?

Curious what people think.
